Surf and Turf Disney Style…..30 days of food on land and at sea! 06/16 WPE

Hi Karin!
I've been following your TR for a while now and am loving it. I think I posted on this TR or maybe another TR you have going about my DH and I visiting Germany and Austria last year.

Well I wanted let you know that in 2014 we will be on our way to Germany again and I immediately thought of you and Tom and how lovely it would be if we could somehow manage having a DIS meet? Not clear of how many days yet or where we want to go this time around but we already have a couple of meets with two other lovely ladies from Germany planned one in Berlin and one in Nuremberg.

So I would love any suggestions from you or Tom on where to go? I'm not sure where you live in Austria any suggestions on where to go in and around your area? You could PM with this info or I can give you my email....

Thanks so much.... :goodvibes

I'm so happy to read about the cruise portion of the trip as I'm sitting here with over a foot of snow and still coming down! I need to "mentally" be somewhere warm!

Looks like the cruise is off to a great start! What a lovely gift! You have so many thoughtful DISer friends.

Morning Karin :goodvibes

Great review of EG, we've only ever cruised once before and had lunch at Cabanas

I didn't realise that there were any other options for lunch so thanks for the tip :thumbsup2

Hope you and Tom have a wonderful Christmas :santa:

I'm in !! these are really great so far.... I'm looking forward to reading more! :cool1: so glad you had a great trip!

All of the food looks so wonderful and I've enjoyed the Advent calendar. Many thanks to Tom, I sure it took hours to create -- as do your trip reports.

(I had my my 50th birthday dinner at Annette's -- solo. Not the most glamorous spot, but I went to Disneyland Paris for my 50th so I can't complain. It was great to see the photos from Annette's.)

I never did have lunch at EG, but it looks good. I love Cabana's too, which had most of the same stuff. That 1st day lunch was oooooo so good!

awe... before my trip your food pics made me excited. Now, they make me sad. :rotfl::rotfl: Makes me want to be there again..

And...as for the surprises in the room. Aren't they wonderful to get? I had the opportunity to experience this on our recent trip. As you know. ;)

Great EG review - was it very crowded there? We sail in three weeks and I can't wait to try everything that I can...including one of those Bahama Mamas!!

No, it was not crowded at all. Yes, there was a short line to the buffet, but not as crazy as at Cabanas.
We were so happy they had pointed us towards the EG! It was a really nice experience.
The Bahama Mama is the Welcome Drink! I am trying to post a few more updates of the cruise food, so you know what to look forward to! ;) :thumbsup2

I will sum it up in 3 letters OMG or too die for
enchanted Garden Such memories OK time to go cry :sad:

Jeff, don't remind me of the fun time we had there! ..... and the food was good too! :rotfl2:

Hi Karin....We never ate at WPE and I think we will have to try it next Aug. Rachel & I were looking at the pictures and the breakfast looks so good. Debbie, Scott & I had the Bahamas Mama's at the sail-away party too...wish I had one now!!! Ahhh...the cruise food pictures, brings back so many memories!

You really need to give WPE a try. :thumbsup2 The food is really nice and if you are on the DDP it is such good value for money.

You are so right, the cruise food pics bring back so many happy memories! :cloud9:

Just read all 30 pages....sorry for being late! I'm going to put Boatwright's on our list for October. Thanks for sharing your trip! I always love your reviews.

:thumbsup2 Wow! Reading all thirty pages .... you rock! :woohoo:
You really should try Boatwright's, we will definitely go back - the food was really yummy!
Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Yes, I remember reading about your trip to Austria.
How fun you will be coming back in 2014!!! :woohoo:

We live in the capital city of Upper Austria and there are lots of things to do in our area, but I don't know if you have been to Salzburg yet? It's a beautiful place, with lots to do too!
Unfortunately Berlin and Nuremberg are a bit far off for us - with Tom's and my job we are homeward bound during the work year.
But once you have decided how long you are going to stay, let me know and I'll give you more suggestions and we can figure something out - would love to have a DISmeet here! :thumbsup2

I am sorry I wasn't updating more when I started the cruise portion, but being sick was NO fun and I was just too tired to update.
But I promise to do better now that I am on Christmas vacation! :thumbsup2

What great surprises! Love the one from Stefy and Dave! :thumbsup2

The surprises were so much fun! And we SO loved the one from Stefy and Dave! We had everything up for all three cruises. Well, the cake got eaten pretty quick though! :rotfl2:

Looks like the cruise is off to a great start! What a lovely gift! You have so many thoughtful DISer friends.

We were so surprised to find that gift from Stefy and Dave! And I have to admit that DISfriends are the very best - so fun to meet in person and so very generous!
And the cruise started off perfectly - well, then, it IS Disney, so with a little bit of their pixie dust ....... ;)

Hi Linda!
We really enjoyed the EG more than Cabanas. Being led to a table and served drinks felt much more relaxed than the regular buffet atmosphere.
You really should try it on your next cruise! :thumbsup2

I'm in !! these are really great so far.... I'm looking forward to reading more! :cool1: so glad you had a great trip!

Welcome! :goodvibes
There's lots more to come, especially cruise food! It was really good and we stayed on for three cruises. ;) :lmao:

So happy to hear that you liked the Advent's Calendar! :goodvibes
There is nothing better for Tom to read than that his calendar was liked! :thumbsup2

Isn't Anette's a nice place to eat? Yes, not the most glamorous spot, but where else can you see servers on roller skates and have a good burger in the Disney Village? ;)

I never did have lunch at EG, but it looks good. I love Cabana's too, which had most of the same stuff. That 1st day lunch was oooooo so good!

I think they have about the same offerings in both the EG and Cabanas. We just enjoyed the atmosphere at EG more than Cabanas.
You really should give it a try next time you cruise .... in about 311 days! ;)

Ann, there's lots of cruise food to come ..... so maybe you get something else to get excited about .... as maybe a cruise is in your future? ;)

I am glad you got to experience a Disney surprise first hand, you really deserved it! :thumbsup2

yum! and well, maybe... maybe someday a cruise. Honestly, the idea of being on a boat kinda scares me...but all your reporting on it sure has made me curious. Also... I would want a disney cruise...but dh would likely not.:confused:

As as for being deserving of such kindness....:confused::confused: I am not sure how I was...but thank you ever so much :hug:

You definitely need to try a Disney cruise, Ann!
I wasn't too sure I wanted to do one either, but wanted to be able to say that we tried it. ;) :lmao:
It's the Disney service and the Disney feel that will win you over. We loved it ...... went from newcomer to gold in 3 summers! :rotfl2:

Day 9, August 21

Enchanted Garden

After watching the Golden Mickeys we got ready to head to dinner. The first day is always a bit special as you never know who your table mates will be.
We were there shortly before the doors opened, were handed wipes and finally were led into the restaurant. We were the first diners at our table and after we had taken a seat our servers came by to introduce themselves. A short time later our tablemates arrived. A young couple on their honeymoon and another couple with their young daughter. We hit it off and had a lot of fun talking about our vacations.

After we had all received our drinks we were served some bread and I never got around to take a photo and

IMG_1106.jpg

the chickpea-garlic puree. We didn't taste it the first night but lateron did and it was really nice and creamy and not to garlicy.

Tom ordered the

IMG_1107.jpg

Ahi Tuna and Avocado Tower with crispy noodles and wasabi dressing as his starter. It looked really pretty and not only did it look pretty, it was super good as well. The tuna was fresh tasty and the avocado cream well seasoned. He loved it.

I had my heart set on

IMG_1108-1.jpg

the North Atlantic Lobster Ravioli with roasted garlic and sweet basil in a light tomato broth. Okay, let me start with the broth, it was light and had a strong tomato taste and it was pretty wonderful, but the ravioli were absolutely wonderful. The pasta was thin and perfectly cooked and filled with lots of lobster goodness. I really enjoyed my starter and could have eaten that as my main course too. ;)

Next came the main courses. Tom had ordered the

IMG_1113.jpg

the Pan-seared Sea Bass with a sweet pea risotto with a sweet chili glaze. Perfectly juicy bass on a very tasty and creamy risotto. There was nothing to complain about.

I had ordered the

IMG_1110.jpg

the Roasted Pork Tenderloin seasoned with Smoked Salt Citrus flavoured polenta cakes and oven roasted carrots, parsnips and caramelized Granny Smith apples. Now personally I would have preferred the pork tenderloin a little less cooked, but nevertheless it went perfectly well with the veggies and apples and the polenta cakes were wonderful, soft and fluffy.

For dessert Tom had ordered

IMG_1117.jpg

the Banana Foster Sundae with Rum glazed bananas, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and caramel sauce. :cloud9: - do I need to say more? :rotfl2:

I wanted to try

IMG_1114-1.jpg

the "Sacher" Chocolate Torte with apricot sauce, which is as Austrian as can be, so it was a must have. When it arrived at the table it had deconstructed itself and the taste was different from what we are used to here. While it was a nice attempt it did not really deserve its name. ;) But it was nice and moist chocolate cake with apricot sauce. :goodvibes

All the while we shared lots of laughs with Stephanie the bride and later with our dining room team who tried their magic tricks on her and it was fun to see how she fell for all of them. ;)

I really enjoyed those ravioli as well! We were shown how to make them at "Anyone Can Cook". They are made from wonton wrappers! We have the recipe. Haven't attempted them myself yet though!
