Surf and Turf Disney Style…..30 days of food on land and at sea! 06/16 WPE

We liked Cabanas for breakfast & lunch. Howie, Scott & Rachel like buffets. Your right the waffles were horrible! We love the Mickey waffles at Chef Mickey's in WDW and thought these would taste the same...were we in for a big surprise when they tasted terrible!! :sad1:

We actually were pretty impressed with the food and while it was really nice - I would have prefered it to come to the table hot, but that's something I have a problem with at all buffets - the food is too cold for my liking.
So it was not just us who didn't like the Mickey waffles - we only tried them once and I was NOT happy with them. ;)

Everything looks amazing , i had to agree with you on the mickey waffles I had them at the enchanted garden leaving day and sea day at cabanas and they were just cold and not good . I think it is how you take pictures is why im so hungry while reading this thread :worship:

I am really enjoying your reviews! So glad I found this thread. We leave for 4 days in Disney and then a "Dream" cruise in exactly a month..your posts have helped me plan out what we want to make sure not to miss and the things we can skip alltogether.

I am so jealous that you get to spend so much time on vacation!! Can't wait for the rest of your reviews!

Hi Jeff!
I knew you would agree on the waffles, we talked about them during the cruise. Please prepare yourself for some more food updates! :thumbsup2

Day 11, August 23

Castaway Air Bar and Serenity Bay Grill Station

I know, this is all about the food, but I wanted to include a few fun photos of Serenity Bay.

Once we had had enough of the water fun we decided we needed a liquid snack.

DSCF1136.jpg

So we both ordered a Konk Kooler made with rum, coconut, pineapple and orange juices, and passion fruit. It is one of my favourite drinks, cold, fruity, you cannot taste the alcohol and the view of the sea from my deckchair. :cloud9:

Around midday we decided to head to the Serenity Bay Grill station for some lunch. We love the place - never a line and food is really good.

They have a terrific salad bar so I loaded up on salads.

IMG_1283-1.jpg

As you can see there is some potato salad, some tomato salad, some Greek salad and coleslaw ... yum, yum

Tom had a similar plate

IMG_1284.jpg

But he got something else as well ...

IMG_1286.jpg

He had been offered some grilled beef, and they did make it fresh - it was really good! :thumbsup2

Instead of the beef I had another helping of .....

IMG_1285.jpg

salad!!!!!!!

Needless to say, we needed dessert as well.

IMG_1287-1.jpg

IMG_1290.jpg

Chocolate chip cookies ...... don't know what they do to them, but these are soft and chewey and oh so good.

IMG_1289.jpg

Pineapple upside down cake - not my favourite, but not bad either. I would have prefered a little more pineapple taste, but it actually was just yellow cake with a thin slice of (I guess) canned pineapple. Very sweet again

IMG_1288.jpg

Soft serve chocolate, vanilla swirl - while this is quite nice - there is one huge downside to it. I eat VERY slowly and when I am only halfway through it I am able to "drink" my ice-cream, as it is already melted. :rotfl2:

Next up - Tow Mater Grill

Karin!! I am caught up on this one!! :yay: One down, 300 to go! :rotfl:

We are all just making our final payments for our Dream cruise in May- your report is getting me even MORE excited- especially the pics of Serenity Bay- which I have only ever admired from afar, on a bike with my kids. :goodvibes The food at the grille looks so different from Cookies- which will make me REALLY happy, because I am not crazy about Cookies. Did they grill fish there, too, or just steak?

Thank-you....

Ellen

Love Konk Koolers!!! We are doing a 3 day in October just so we can go back to CC in drink them!

The food of course look amazing... but the sand and water... very very nice! I think by the time I read all of your cruising report I am going to be a convert to the idea. Course... then I stop for a second and remember it is on a boat...surrounded by water.

There is my favorite cookie! I LOVE those cookies. I wish I knew how they kept them so darn soft, yet not too soft.

Ellen, glad that you are caught up!

Being paid in full is the best feeling, isn't it? Lots more food reviews to come and I am just one post away from getting on the DREAM in my trip report, so watch out for that as well.
Serenity Bay is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! HEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!! You are going to love it!
I think the food IS different from what they have at Cookie's. We have never eaten there, always been at the one at Serenity Bay. And yes they have a wonderful grilled Mahi Mahi there too! I usually have it, but just didn't feel like it after the Eggs Benedict for breakfast. :lmao:
I am not sure, but you might not be able to bring your kids there, Ellen - it is supposed for the adults only.

I love them too! Such a nice drink and enjoying it at that wonderful beach is just awesome. :thumbsup2

Ann, it's the whole package. The beach is just heavenly and even though there are about 4000 guests on board, it never gets crowded! :thumbsup2

And I am sure you would love DCL - it is such an awesome experience! Before our first cruise I was so nervous about being "stuck" on a boat - all the water and what not, I fell in love with the perfect service and I NEVER "noticed" being on a boat (apart from our hurricane experiences ;)) :thumbsup2

Castaway Cay just look so beautiful. And your lunch looked great, as well. What a heavenly time, you must have had. :cloud9:

Castaway Cay is like HEAVEN on earth! We just love it there! Only Disney can turn a small island into something as magical as this! :cloud9:

YUM!!! Konk Koolers....my favorite on Castaway Cay. I had one sitting in the beach chair with my feet in the water just looking out to the beautiful ocean!!!

I so want to sit on a chair in the water at Serenity bay with a Konk Kooler!!!

There is my favorite cookie! I LOVE those cookies. I wish I knew how they kept them so darn soft, yet not too soft.

These cookies are sooo good! I think they mix some extra pixie dust into them, so they stay soft and moist! ;)

Ooh Konch Koolers - Mmmmmmm :)

:cloud9: :thumbsup2

Me too ....... just ....... I had more than one! :rotfl2:

I so want to sit on a chair in the water at Serenity bay with a Konk Kooler!!!

I'll definitely think of you when I'll sit on a chair in the water at Serenity Bay in 43 days!

Day 11, August 23

Tow Mater Grill

When we got back from Serenity Bay in the afternoon we felt like a little something, so we just headed up a deck and picked up a

IMG_1317-1.jpg

hotdog from Tow Mater Grill. Tom loaded it up at the toppings bar and we shared one - we still had a pirate night dinner to eat!
But let me tell you that this was a pretty good hotdog. We tried the ones at Casey's in the MK and did not like them at all, but we loved the hotdogs on the Wonder and Dream! :thumbsup2

Next up - Pirate Night at Animator's Palette

Day 11, August 23

Pirate Night at Animator's Palette

That night was pirate night and our dinner was at Artist's Palette.

IMG_1322.jpg

Again, we arrived a little early and had to wait, but soon enough we were led to our table.
Since we had had such a beautiful day, we decided on some adult drinks!

IMG_1331.jpg

I ordered the Captain’s Treasure, Absolute Mandarin, Peach Schnapps and Orange Juice. :thumbsup2 Very nice!!

IMG_1332.jpg

Tom went for the Rusty Anchor, Midori, Captain Morgan Rum, Passion Fruit and Cranberry Juice, which he really enjoyed.
And since our tablemates found it okay that I took pics of all of our food, they let me take photos of their food as well.

And here is Stephanie's drink.

IMG_1330.jpg

a Virgin Pina Colada, which she enjoyed very much.

Again, I did not take any photos of the breadservice for the night, but there was some nice food anyway! ;)

IMG_1333.jpg

Tom's starter was the Pirates Golden "Pot Stickers", Oriental Pork "Dumplings" deep fried and served with a Tamarind-Ginger soy sauce and Pickled Vegetables. These never disappoint. We've had them on the wonderful Disney WONDER and they were very yummy and so were they on the DREAM.

IMG_1334.jpg

I had my favourite pirate starter, Blackbeard’s Jumbo Crab Cake with a golden raisin-carrot and coconut slaw served with a spicy Calypso dressing. The Crab Cake is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, lots of crab and goes so well with the slightly sweet seasoning on the coleslaw. :thumbsup2

IMG_1336.jpg

And someone at our table had the Caribbean-style Conch Chowder - with sherry, sweet peppers, onions, tomatoes, thyme, and garnished with diced potatoes and crispy bacon bits - we did not hear any complaints! :goodvibes

I don't remember who, but someone had the

IMG_1337.jpg

Jerk Chicken Salad - jerk-seasoned chicken strips over fresh crispy greens with a citrus dressing and plantain chips too.

Main courses were .......

Tom had

IMG_1339.jpg

Jack Sparrow’s Barbecue Marinated Beef Short Ribs, Rubbed beef short ribs with tamarind-barbecue sauce served with onion red bliss mashed potatoes and plantain chip. The short ribs were really tender and juicy and the sauce added a nice touch to it. Needless to say, he finished it all.

I had ordered

IMG_1338-1.jpg

Captain Hook’s Macadamia Nut-Dusted Mahi Mahi, Jasmine rice and sauteed pineapple on a mild curry sauce. Well, while it was nice, I was not really impressed with it. The Mahi lacked some flavour and so did the Jasmine rice and the curry sauce was VERY mild.

And quite a few at our table ordered the

IMG_1340.jpg

the Dutchmen's Dijon-Crusted Sirloin of Beef - thick cut of beef with oven-roasted sweet potatoes and a black spot tomato with deep red wine glaze and raved about it!

We all still had room for dessert! ;)

IMG_1343.jpg

Someone had the Rum Soaked Chocolate Cake - with raspberry glaze and whipped cream and someone had the

IMG_1346-1.jpg

Fruit Cobbler - with vanilla ice cream. We all had a lot of fun and I think all the desserts were finished. :thumbsup2

Tom and I had ordered the same thing ......

IMG_1349.jpg

IMG_1345.jpg

IMG_1344.jpg

the Crunch Time Sundae - Rum Raisin Ice Cream, Pineapple, Whipped Cream and Croquant. We both loved the sundae - the ice-cream was really tasty and worked well with the pineapple. We both finished it! :goodvibes

Next up - Royal Palace breakfast

Serenity bay looks amazing but we did the family thing our first trip hoping we will get an earlier start next trip so we can relax a bit there and then do the family thing , those adult beverages look goood and the food pics are delicous as i'm about to have unimpressive hot dogs tonight lol:lmao::laughing::rotfl2:

Karin , the food at animaters plate looks amazing but one ?? it seems the menu was a little different then when we were on ?
and i will say one thing i will never forget the DESSERTS lol:lmao:

I was thinking the same thing Jeff because I know I would have ordered that rum soaked chocolate cake. We had the dumplings at Enchanted Garden and we also had something like that chowder soup, but it was cheddar cheese soup at Animator's Palate. YUM!!!
