Super Goofs March Challenge

I had a MUCH better day today. My time did not improve too much but my outlook did! 4.97 miles in 58.46. Still slug time but I am doffing the crown to someone else today! Any takers?

In the 50s to start. I run mostly on dirt roads and they were wet sloggy mud. Similar to running in wet sand. I saw many bluebirds which always makes me happy and a true sign of spring- sap buckets!

Can anyone tell me how to load/attach pictures? I have a great one of Bella after our run. She is FILTHY!

Rainy now and ice to come. The kids had a blast skiing. The slopes were shut down due to the rain but they had a few hours of warm weather skiing. My 5 year old DD is quite the daredevil. Her big sister looks after her so well. It makes my heart swell with joy and pride when I see the older one ski in front of her so that the little one doesn't go too fast. I am very lucky.

Hope every one had fun today- Daylight savings Sunday!

I am so aggravated right now! As you know, I am having a horrible time getting/staying motivated. I have been wanting new songs on my phone for working out for a loonnngg time, thinking that will help me. I am sitting here for an hour and can't get the $%^&^%*& thing to work!!!! I freakin' give up.

If it weren't for you guys, I would go right back to bed right now.
I am going to get going to the Y before I really do talk myself into hiding under the covers.

Lisa - some of your weather came our way last night. I live in the South - we rarely get snow - more ice, though. Anyway, we were supposed to get a dusting last night. The dusting turned into 12 inches. It was pretty. :) We haven't had snow like this in years. I know - this happens to you guys a lot. I can see where it would get old but I'm enjoying it for now. What's funny is that it was 76 degrees here Sunday, in the 60's yesterday and will be in the 60's tomorrow. Go figure!

Cecilia - I LOVED the relay. We were in the Clydesdale division (ok, we need to lose a little weight, :rolleyes1 ). Because we didn't think we could finish under 6 hours, we got to start 2 hours earlier than the regular start at 8am. What was neat about this is that I got to run with the leaders for all of 3 seconds. :woohoo: And, to answer your question...yes, there are dedicated relay points. At these points, there were mini finish lines for the relay member coming in - complete with disc jockeys, balloon canopys, medal presentations, food, drinks, photographers - almost like a regular finish line but a little smaller. Instead of wearing a chip on your shoe, we had a chip that strapped around the ankle. When one person finished his leg, the other person would take the chip and strap it around his ankle. Pretty cool. I highly recommend it.

Joanne - I would love to do the NYC marathon...someday. I need to get in better shape before I can tackle that. I'll never get to do Boston (unless I get to be a volunteer ;) ) but maybe I can do NYC sometime. I can only dream about it at this point. Good luck! I hope you get in. :goodvibes :wizard: By the way, I'm in a lottery too - for the Nike Women's Half in San Francisco. I did this one last year. It is such a popular race - the organizers decided to make it a lottery this year since it sold out in 1 day last year and many would-be participants were turned away.

Beth - I would love to be able to do an 11 minute mile. Good job! I'm just trying to do a 13 for now. That's my goal for the Disneyland Half in August.

Christy - Yikes on the termites!!!! We need a bug-stompin' smilie. Good luck getting that problem taken care of.

Before the snow hit last night, I managed to get in some action at the gym. Here's my time/miles:

3 miles/ 1 hour

Steve's:

2 miles / 1 hour

Kristi-
Do you want to run together sometime? I have a great 4.5 mile loop I do from my home. You are welcome to join me anytime. I am having a tough time too. The weather is horrible and I hate the treadmill. My goal now is to finish Great Bay. I know I am not ready for it but I am going to do the best I can and try and put the training hours in. I feel your pain- WISH friend.

Who's not ready for Great Bay :confused3 did I read that??? We need to figure out pacing so EVERYONE finishes. I have to adopt the Ohana phrase here...no one gets left behind. We are all going to finish!!!!

My WDW half was about 11:45 mpm for the full 13.1. I am willing to run, run/walk or walk, run around in circles, hop up and down, whatever it takes. Let's see if we can find a common ground so we can all finish within a few minutes of each other at the very least. :worship:

No. Take it from the girl that danced across the finish line at Goofy. Speed is overrated.

II should try sitting on the couch with some chips and oooh, can I have a beer too. :rolleyes1 Maybe then I could step out of the 11 mpm range with the rest of you!
Did I already post my plans for the evening? I have special chips that noone else in my family likes just waiting for Idol to start[/SIZE

Speed. Its a dangerous thing. It can take something you love (running) and turn it into a thing you hate.

Cecilia

Cecilia - I knew there was a reason I loevd you! Speed is overrated. If I was trying to be speedy all the time, I wouldn't have the fabulous pictures with characters that I have from all my Disney races. I wouldn't have walked 3-4 miles with Cam during the DL half and got to talk her ear off! :rotfl:

Joanne - I am afraid I am a mostly-walker. I try to do one min. running intervals and they always just about kill me. I don't know if it's asthma-related or not. I don't want to use my asthma as an excuse. But I can't seem to ever run for more than that measly one minute. :confused3 It would be fun to work out with you, but I also don't want to hold you back, kwim? Thanks for the info on the shoes! I usually don't have any issues since I wear jeans & sneakers to work most of the time. I think it's just the end for my beloved boots.

As for Great Bay, I think I have finally given up on a PR. Last year, even with the hills I finished in 3:03. I honestly doubt I can replicate that, never mind beat it, this time around. So, I am all for having fun and hanging together! I just want to finish.

Great story from last year...Mom & I noticed at the beginning there was a 30-something man walking (fast) who looked like he was a former runner. But this man had obviously had a stroke. You know what? He passed us before the end and finished ahead of us! Talk about inspiration for when you feel like you can't do something, huh? That man recovered from a stroke and kicked our behinds! :worship:

I did manage my 7 miles tonight. Since I only get about 4-5 hours sleep per night during the week, I stuck to walking only (no energy). Well, I did one, one min. running interval in the first mile and then ditched that idea! :rotfl: Here are my splits:
13:00
13:16
13:18
13:22
13:26
13:28
13:29
1:33:23

3/1
Please add 2 hours of snowshoeing

3/2
2 miles, on very tired legs/34 mins
1 hour shoveling

3/3
1.5 miles/24 mins

3/4
4 miles/68 min

so, it's still snowing/sleeting/raining here...

we have a structural eng coming in to check the roof (work) 'cause there is so much ice up there...may get sent home (wouldn't that be too bad!!)

re: Great Bay...I am under no illusions, I am WAY slower than all of you, I dont want to hold anyone back!! I just hope to finish this one.

looks like my 5k this weekend will be pleasant (NOT) more snow coming...

still doing better on the treadmill w/the tv down there, I was afraid I would slow down when I started focusing on a movie instead of my pace or breathing, but seem to be holding steady (on slow...) why is it that I can go faster outside, when I control the pace, but slower/shorter on the treadmill that sets it for me?

hope everyone has a great day...

Morning all--notice the absence of the word "good" ;) We had about 6-8 inches of snow overnight. Weren't expecting quite that much, and yet it feels like it is one of the biggest snowfalls of the year.

I did my 45 minutes of swimming this morning. Had my own lane. next to some guy who pretty much went up and back in the time it took me to go up!

Stepped out of the car at work this morning in my Bean boots and slipped on some snow covered ice and fell flat on my a--. But "It's a beautiful day in the neigborhood".

And as for the discussion on speed--it really is a relative thing and only a personal/individual challenge. I started running hoping I could maintain a 10 minute/mile pace becasue that is what I felt comfortable doing. But now I think I can do better (maybe 9:30?) It is really the same thing that prompted me to even try running the Minnie in the first place--a personal challenge to try and be better (and as I have said before--to be able to grow old and eat what I want without gaining weight--it really is all about the food!:) ) So "to each her own"--we all have our own goals that are right for each of us.

Maura

Angie - I am always alot slower on a TM. When I do a TM w/o at the gym, I can only keep the speed at 3.8. I can't maintain a 4.0 (15 min. mile). But on the track or outside I can walk a 13:00-13:30 min. mile. Weird.

Wow, and I thought I was the only one who is slow-w-w on the treadmill but faster outside?!

Please add to my numbers:

Monday...30 mins treadmill/1/28 miles

Tuesday...30 mins treadmill/1/37 miles

Have a great day everyone!

:flower1: :flower1: Sending alittle Spring is almost here thoughts to everyone knee deep in snow right now :flower1: :flower1:

Kristi - good job on the 7-miler. I know what you mean about going slower on the TM than I do outside. However, I don't go as fast as you. This is where I would like to gain speed - in my walking.

Speaking of speed, yes I do want to get faster. Mainly so I can relax more and have fun at these events and not worry about being swept if I want to stop and take pictures with characters, of the scenery, etc. I've just never felt like I had the luxury of doing this before.

I really do think speed is relative. I always feel slow, but for me, it's still ok. I don't expect miracles, but I would love to do better than a 11:00 min mile consistently. I guess it's something to work on.

I didn't make it to the gym as I had planned. LTO. I did get on the treadmill during the Biggest Loser. Watching the show helps make the time go faster for me. I am with everyone with the slower on the TM than outside. I never understand that. Why am I struggling on the TM and its so much easier outside? :confused3 :confused3 If anyone figures that one out, let me know.

Time: 65 minutes
Miles: 4.5

Beth

Does anyone know, is there a way, on the spreadsheet, for a view only to sort? I was trying to see where I fit in for mileage, and where we as a team hit for totals (we're last right now)...I CAN figure it out manually, but sorting would be so much easier....

Day of rest here, if you consider cleaning your home from stem to stern rest...:laundy:

Add me to the slow TM group. I cannot seem to run an 11 minute mile, let alone get any faster. I have tried intervals, etcetera but it just seems like the time passes faster when I am in the fresh air. I will say, however, that I run faster on the TM at the gym than at home. Too many people watching!!! Cannot give in, must run faster.....:sad2:

Angie: You hit the link at the beginning of the weekly thread and then you have to set up an account with Google. After that, you should be able to get in, you just cannot make adjustments. I thought everyone understood that part, my bad...:rolleyes1

Have a great day Goofs. Kidlets home today, lots of icing happening here. Yay for not having to shovel much, boo for having a quarter mile driveway!!

What a beautiful day it turned out to be. I am really sore today- not sure why. Ended up riding for 1.5 hours. I rode yesterday as well for 1 hour. No running today.
I am not a speed freak but what I am finding frustrating is that prior to the Disney half I was running 10 minute and under miles. I am no where near that stage now and I don't have any idea why.
Have a great day everyone. Kristi- I am glad you were able to get out yesterday!

Hello Goofs, since I love y'all I'm sending you a Tenn Hill Feller named DirtyBunny. Be nice to him he is shy and hears voices.
