Super Goofs March Challenge

Lisa-
Nice job with the new thread. I like how you put WISH names and "real" names together. I am horrible with names so this really helps me out.

Cecilia- you rock! You are my new idol. Your dedication and commitment are inspiring. Congrats on your PR! Way to go!!! Plus you have the coolest WISH name.

To day is supposed to be in the 50s! Goodby treadmill! If the weather really is this nice today I am going to have a rather "interesting" ride!

Nothing for me this weekend- I work every Sat and Sun and my home is a disaster when I get back. Not sure what the family does to get it that way but the house needs me on the weekends!

Morning all!

In honor of the fact that it is supposed to be 53 today here in glorious SE Michigan, I did 53 minutes of stretch & strengthen this morning at 5:30. (Well, okay, it just sorta worked out that way!)

Beth Aqua Aerobics is pretty good. I've taken two classes with two different instructors. Already, I prefer one to the other (more cardio). The only down side, how do I say this carefully, is that there are a lot of ladies in the pool who treat this as a big social occasion and are less than enthusiastic with their exercise. But the good thing is, this is a class that you can make as easy or as difficult as you want. I think it's good cross training--especially the day after my long runs. It's a nice break--but you still get a workout.

Maura

Cecilia: I have said it before and I'll say it again...you rock. For being so unsure of yourself the morning of the race, you certainly finished with a vengance. Guess you have a new goal to break??!! :thumbsup2

Beth: I loved water aerobics. I did it with my DH which also made it fun. We, too, had 2 different instructors and one was better cardio-wise than the other. It was nice to feel weightless jogging around the pool too!!! I did find though that without shoes, it gave me really bad foot cramps.

Good job getting out everyone. I linked the last thread to this one so I won't lose anyone again. I did find Christy and Steve's miles from last week and plan to update the spreadsheet tonight along with Beth's post. Suzanne, I got yours too.

Joanne: I like linking the screen names with the real ones, I think it helps us connect better so we can call each other by name at Great Bay!!! Yay!!! :woohoo:

I begrudgingly did my 8 this weekend. If it does not turn to spring soon I may have to give up races longer than 10K as I just cannot take the TM for long periods. Today, yes, I can run outside. I have 60 minutes and we will see how far I can go today. Then freezing rain overnight tonight, nice tomorrow (ooooo, maybe I can bike!!) and then more snow for Wednesday. Will this cycle never end????????????????????? On an even sadder note, my uncle called from FL yesterday and his roof caved in on his trailer here. Culture shock for him flying home tomorrow to clean things out and do the insurance thing. :beach: to :cold:

Have a great day all!!!!!!!!!!!!!:flower3:

I get the slug crown today. I was determined to run outside. Temps were to be in the 50s. Alas by 12 they were still lower 40s. Since I am a diva runner- far too cold for me but I bundled myself up and out we went. Bella is a little out of shape due to all the treadmill running I have been doing so....
4.68 miles in a whopping one hour! Oh the shame...

I rode for 1.5 hours earlier as well.

Tomorrow is another day and another workout- it can only get better..right?

9 miles today in 141 minutes (2 hours 21 minutes) with walking/jogging combo. I should be under the 2 hours 15 minute mark soon!! I shaved 12 minutes off my time from last week. Mile 5 and 6 were the killer but I just kept going.

Have a great day everyone!!

Ok, slacker checking in...

I do my LRs on Mondays since there is no child care at the gym on Sunday and Chad is at work. So, today's plan was for 7 miles. I was dreading it since yesterday. So, I finally decide I have to suck it up for the team and just DO IT! Well, I took off the boots I have been wearing all day and the balls of my feet are really, really sore and bothering me. I really don't think I can make 7 miles and I don't know if it would be wise to push it.

Chad is off tomorrow, so I will get my 7 miles done then, in place of my scheduled 4.5. I also think it may be time to get rid of these boots. I love them and have worn them about every other day for the past 3 winters. Maybe their time is up. :sad1: And this isn't the first time the balls of my feet have hurt after a day in them.

Suzanne - fabulous 9 miler!

Kristi: Another vote for working from home and wearing nothing on my feet most of the time.

Suzanne: Awesome 9 miles.

Joanne: Hello, princess runner is not just a name...I am kind of high maintenance!! I had a repeat of your run except it was 30 not 40 and as I peaked my first hill 0.5 miles into it, it started freezing rain and never stopped.

I made it 4.88 miles in 55:37. Still stuck in that 11:24 range but considering the ice, had to wait for some cars due to no shoulders, etcetera, it was okay and, hey, I was outside so it can't be called a complete bad run. No TM...:goodvibes

Hi everyone!

We're back from our weekend race in Little Rock. Steve and I participated in a marathon relay. I had the longest leg (and 3 miles of hills!) - 7.8 miles. Steve had the shortest - 5.3 miles. We did great - especially Steve. He walked a 12:54 pace...and that wasn't pushing it. I suspect by the end of the year, he'll be walking a 12 minute pace. I have to run some just to keep up with him. Going by my Garmin:

8 miles for me (16 race miles)/ 1 hour 50 min.
5.45 for Steve (10.9 race miles)/1 hour 10 min.

Cecilia - congrats on a terrific half! You are quite the speedster! :woohoo:

Speeking of speedsters, we have quite a few team mates that are fast!!! And some of us that are getting faster as time goes on. I can remember starting out not so long ago at about a 20 min pace thinking I was rocking then. For someone who was not athletic by an stretch of the imagination until about a year and a half ago, I can proudly give myself a pat on the back now for even getting out there and trying. Same goes to all of you. :cheer2:

I'm so proud of this team and for everyone's accomplishments - big or small. Keep up the good work!!!

Cecilia--WOW!!! What a great race you had! Congrats!

Beth and Lisa--Nice job on going 8 miles

Suzanne--9 miles and in really good time! I always feel like mile 4/5 are the hardest!!

You guys are mile machines this week!!

Susie and Steve--Great job on your race. Doing a relay sounds like a lot of fun!!

Maura and Joanne--Way to get out there and exercise!!

Kristi-good luck on your run tomorrow!

After those big numbers, I am feel like I should have run a lot further tonight...
I did 2 miles in 25:32--it turns out running after having Costco pizza is not the best plan for my body, go figure:confused3 :confused3

Poor Steve's exercise of the day consisted of digging a trench around the house and tearing down drywall in the boys bedroom because termites have decided to move in with us:headache: :headache: :headache: The good news is it seems like we caught them really early. We will just have to replace the baseboards in the bedroom and then put up some new drywall where he tore it down to see how far they ate.

I am hoping to run before I take Brennen to preschool in the morning, so I will report back tomorrow!

Have a great night everyone and GREAT JOB!!!

Just so everyone knows and SIGNS UP- NYC marathon lottery is up and running!
Just sent my application in- fingers and toes crossed! Hope to see a big WISH scream team!

Kristi- I have huge issues with my feet. I am super super picky about what I wear. I am the saddest person in the world when my feet hurt. As a nurse practitioner I work sometimes work double shifts and I need my feet to be comfortable. I love Danskco clogs and have been wearing them constantly for years. I know the price can be a bit off putting but I had one pair last about 10 years. I cried when I had to retire them! When I get home the shoes come off and the UGG slippers come on. I know they are not the most attractive thing in the world but they are so comfortable. Alex's shoe store down town has THE nicest people working there and can help you out! I

LLBean Outlet store is a good resource for bean boots. I love the socks they sell- wool blend- great for every thing and such a good price. Plus you can't beat their $10 pants. It has to be one of my most favorite stores! I bet now is a good time to find a pair there.

In case you have not guessed- yes, I do live near you! Small world!

Susie: Nice to have you back. You and Steve did awesome. I know you felt unprepared for this but you HAVE to be happy with the results. Especially after you double the race miles!!!

Christy: Boy, when you catch up, you catch up. So nice to have someone who can keep up with everything and everyone. I try but fail miserably most of the time.

Joanne: Anyone who is entering the lottery for NYC is certainly not to be called a slug. So you can call me a slug. :lmao: I have foot issues too having extremely high arches. I wore the wrong shoes (NB) and started having pain in my good knee, then it finally settled into PF. Comfy shoes are high on the list. Blisters low on the list. I usually walk around the house barefoot and I have such UGLY feet!! So...Uggs, ugly feet, it is all good here in the house of Super Goofs!!

I hope everyone has an awesome day today. We are up for freezing rain, snow, sleet, rain, yucky, yuck, yuck again tonight and all day tomorrow. Kids are into OT with days off now. My daughter is hoping for no school due to MEA testing this week. Such odd weather this year. I ran yesterday in 30 degrees and freezing rain/rain, then we went for a snowmobile ride in the afternoon and it was sunny and nice, today cloudy and then more crap. More crap for Saturday. Hey, can't you NH people keep this in the southern end of my state?????? LOL :rotfl2:

Good morning team!

Thank you all for you sweet words! I love this thread! You guys are awesome.

My legs are still very sore today. I guess I should have taken an ice bath instead of going to church. I am going to hit the treadmill and hopefully work out some of the achiness.

Susie - I would LOVE doing a marathon relay! How did you like it? Did they have designated relay points? Good for you for doing the hard part!

Suzanne - Great job on the 9 miles! You are doing awesome! I had a run/walker kick my butt in Sunday's race. We played tag the first 10 miles and then he took off and I never caught up again. I don't think I have the mental strength to do the r/w thing.

Christy - I hate termites. glad you causght them early.

Joanne - The idea of running a marathon makes me a little queasy this morning. I am still too tired & sore to even think about it. I hope you get in, I hear it is an amazing experience.

When I post times like I did this weekend, you all need to remember that I was a complete couch potato: bag of chips and can of soda in hand. (I only smoked occasionally so I can't add that to the image) I have been slowly recreating myself over the last couple of years. I miss my old ways and I have to fight myself to stay on track. I am still a couch potato on the inside.

Cecilia

Morning people. Currently home waiting for the repair guy to come and fix a one year old washer--insert chorus of "they just don't make 'em like they used to" here!

Anyway, I went to the gym for my scheduled 3-miler and decided to try a little speed work--my version. So I did a mile at 9:30, 1/2 mile at 9:00, another mile at 9:30 and the last 1/2 mile at 8:30 for a total of 28 minutes. And I managed to keep from getting swept off the treadmill!:)

As I inch closer towards the Minnie, I still can't say I feel confident in being able to meet my goals for the race (run it, finish in 1:45--stretch 90 minutes), but I'm beginning to see the light a little.

Cecilia Always nice to see a former "couch potato" nearby. Isn't it amazing the gravity that a couch can produce, sucking you back to its comfy confines. Really, Nova should send in some physicists and do a show on it!

Okay Cecilia, I found the following June relays to consider (cuz I know Angie needs a June race to fulfill her one a month schedule):
Need for Speed Relay Bear Mountain NY 6/8
Crazy Legz 60 mile relay Dennis MA 6/21
Black Fly in My Eye Gorhan NH 6/28 (this gets my vote just for the name)
MDI 4th of July relay (okay this went into July but it is my home state!!!)

I tried to find a halfway between all of us but was unsuccessful. If anyone finds one, post it and see if we can all make the race. I think it would be a kick and look at the miles that we would ALL get credit for!!! :woohoo:

I, too, am a total lazy slug on the inside. I was the TV watching, snack eating kid growing up. I fight the lazy bug every day. Sometimes, the only thing I want to do is sit down, chips in hand, and watch TV. I haven't done that in a very long time, but I fight the urge every day!!! :confused3

So yesterday I got myself to the gym for a 60 min Pilates class. I even got there early and did 15 minutes on the recumbent bike!!!! That's for the team!

Time: 75 min
Miles: 5.5 (on the bike!)

Beth

I have to say, for couch potato lazy slugs, you are pretty fast!!!

I grew up with tater chips, prepared meals, and soda but was always really active. Maybe that is my problem. I should try sitting on the couch with some chips and oooh, can I have a beer too. :rolleyes1 Maybe then I could step out of the 11 mpm range with the rest of you!!!!!! :dance3:

I am totally get used to my 11:00 min/mile pace. Sometimes I think I want to be faster, but will I enjoy myself as much then? Don't want that trade off. I would just like to be a "little" faster......maybe 10:30 pace? That would be a dream come true for me! :lovestruc

Beth

I will never ever ever be an elite runner- just finishing a race or a run is good enough for me!
I will admit it- I am a couch potato. Is there anything better than catching up on TIVO?
In the 50s this AM. Cut the ride short and off we go on our run! Goal is to beat yesterdays slug time. I am taking the kids out of school early to take them skiing. don't tell anyone!
Good luck all!

Well today it was 35, such an improvement over yesterday :lmao:, so I ventured out again. It was XT day but since I will be stuck in the house until probably Friday again, I decided to run. Good news is I actually left the 11's and had an average of 10.43 mpm :cool1: My first mile was 10:01, second mile with a .25 mile hill down and up was 12:17 and my last mile with my wet sneak, wet sock and starting to get cold foot was 9:50. :woohoo: So overall, I am happy with the run. It was 3 miles and I used my speed training music which really helped!!

I hope everyone else had a great day and got a great workout in. :goodvibes
