Sunset Savanna View or Kudu Trail View at AKL?

What is the difference? Where are they located in the lodge? Are they far from the main lobby? We are traveling with young kids and think maybe we should stay close to the main lobby so just trying to decide which room to book?

Sunset savanna is to the left where the linked map has a drawing of a stork, crane and Ostrich. Rooms on Ostrich trail face either Sunset savanna or the drive in front of the resort, rooms on Kudu trail face either Sunset savanna or the more expensive bookable Arusha savanna view. Both Sunset savanna view rooms and Kudu trail rooms are on the opposite side of the lobby from the pool, Mara (the cs restaurant) & the side where the bus stop is.
Sunset is a lovely savanna, IMO - it's the largest of the 4 savannas.

You could be both close to lobby, on kudu trail, AND have a view of the Sunset Savanna.
What room category do you have booked?

Unless things have changed and assuming you are booking a room rather than a villa:
standard view gets you road/parking lot/obstructed or partial savanna view
pool view gets you a view of the pool on Giraffe or Zebra trail
savanna view gets you a view of sunset savanna or (probably Kudu trail - maybe Ostrich trail) or Uzima savanna which is on the far right on the map rooms are on Zebra trail
Arusha savanna view gets you a room on kudu or zebra trail facing the center Arusha savanna.

If you're planning on booking savanna view, I would do that and then request "close to lobby" (if you're concerned about long walks to your room). Keep in mind that your requests may not be met.

If price is no object, book club level, where you will be guaranteed a view of the dramatic Arusha Savanna. (This is Arusha View, Zebra Trail) and also have access to the gorgeous lounge and yummy snacks.
(Or just book Arusha View, without Club Level.)

OR

book "savanna view" and request "Zebra Trail" (putting you on the pool/restaurant/arcade side of the resort) and "Close to lobby".

However, some of the best animal viewing is from waaay down the trails, far from the lobby. (this photo is of the Arusha Savanna, from near the end of Kudu Trail).

You could book Pool View and save a bunch money Pool views can be great. (This is an old photo, from pool view on Zebra Trail.)

They can also be lame. (This is from last summer. Ground floor "pool view" near the laundry room and kids club, in the pod off of Zebra Trail)
The view was lame, but the location was excellent

It's hard to pick. But I honestly don't think you can go wrong. AKL is the greatest

Sunset Savannah definitely. If you want a good savannah view then you have to let go of "close to the lobby" because the best savannah views are those that are not right next to the lobby.
