I forgot this in FL last time and ended up with sore/peeling ears for a couple of days...could have kicked myself! Cream everywhere else, except my ears! D'uh!
Also the soles if you're sunbathing!!Note to everyone. Don't forget to cream/spray the tops of your feet!!!!!

The other thing that makes a difference in this conversation is the time of year you visit Orlando. At the moment the sun is so much stronger than say October/November.
The sign with the minimum SPF is up at the water parks for a reason![]()

Oh yes! Even with a good SPF, I still sport my sandal tan lines for months after each trip

Hi , we are first timers going in October this year . Me and DS never really burn but DS never has less than factor 30 but my DH does burn Quite easily . What sort of factor do you recommend in October time ? We are doing DC but not really planned a water park but might do pool at hotel on rest days . I know one of the water parks is closed at that time but might fit one in .
I have bought factor 50 because I have fair skin and when we're at the water parks DBF will use 50, but the rest of the time probably 30. I was wondering about discovery cove though, I read they give you factor 30, anyone got any experience of this??

Got burned at Castaway Cay last year using factor 20, I am not fair skinned. Using factor 30+ for our upcoming trip in three weeks. The children get factor 70.

It was a few years back when we went to DC but I remember they gave us sunscreen from these big pots was quite thick but safe for the marine life. Plus you can also opt for a wetsuit.
I use factor 50 on myself and my daughters. I am still worried about my baby getting burnt even with sun cream. I cover her with a cellular blanket when she's in her pushchair and keep her out of the sun still. She won't wear a hat so I have been keeping her indoors during the heatwave during the hottest part of the day. plus Sun stroke is horrible.

As you'll see from other posts, it's so individual. I use factor 50 on faces or if less, never lower than a 30. You should get by with a 15 for October for those who tan easily, but perhaps a little higher for fairer skin.
I do agree that the sun is different depending when you go, but we have got nicely toasted on a couple of October trips (first half of Oct). The thing with October is that the humidity drops significantly from what it is in late September so it FEELS cooler, but that sun is still pretty warm.
I have a hood extender thing like that, so will make sure I pack it. We're also hiring the double buggy from city strollers (?) which seems to have super large hoods... he's going to want to play in the pool etc though... need to try and figure out how to get him to keep a hat on
It's also where we bought the spray on sun protection which I really can't rate high enough! Every morning we'd tell our children to stand still with arms out to their sides like a T and spray them all over - it was done in seconds and gave a long time of protection.

Don't underestimate the power of the sun in the water parks.
I used SPF30, waterproof, and applied it every hour - still ended up mildly burning my shoulders and back. When I sunbathe I used to use tanning oil in Europe - never again.
Be VERY careful in the water parks!

I would echo this. My 11 year old DD is very fair skinned and has a face full of freckles. As a result I still insist on her wearing a sun safe short sleeve top in the water parks. She'd rather be flaunting her stuff in a bikini but I insist. Anyway. They have some quite nice ones in the next directory. Not too babyish. This has stopped her getting burnt ever in Florida. She learnt her lesson last week getting a bit burnt locally in a paddling pool! Now she knows mum knows best![]()
I also have an 11 year old daughter so we could probably relate a lot of similar stories, lol. DD asked me a couple of weeks ago, while applying her sun cream, "Does sunburn hurt?" My initially reaction was "Well YES!!" as though it was a silly question. It later occurred to me that DD has never been sunburned so she's never experienced it. What is a sun safe shirt?Your post made me chuckleI also have an 11 year old daughter so we could probably relate a lot of similar stories, lol.
