It was time for us to make our way over to The Grand Floridian. I knew deep down that my mom would be alright and I decided there and then I would call her over the next few days.
We grabbed our suitcases and headed over to the Bell Boy and asked him to call us a cab. Within 5 minutes we were on our way to The Grand Floridian, and excitement overcame us.
We pulled up to the entrance and the attendant came out of his cubicle and asked if we were checking in today. I gave him my surname and he looked down the list and said "Yes, ma'am, here you are and congratulations". He waved us through and Steven and I looked at each other, we were surprised that they stopped everyone coming in.
We made our way up to the entrance of the resort and although we had been here before it felt different this time, we were going to stay here for 7 nights, it felt like a dream come true! Initially we had booked the AKL, but with the construction going on, I didn't want to take the chance and asked my TA to change our accommodations. I had hoped to get The Poly, but had been offered The Grand Floridian instead. Knowing that I couldn't really afford to stay at The GF for 7 nights any other way, I would have been silly to pass the opportunity up so I accepted. I had thought that the style didn't really appeal to me, but the pictures in the brochure didn't do this place justice, it was absolutely stunning, everything about it was grand!
We went to check-in and a sweet woman greeted us. I gave her the name it was booked under and she greeted us with a big smile. "Congratulations, you are checking into our Concierge today, if you just give us a few minutes someone will be down to show you to your room".
I smiled and said thank you, and turned to Steven. I didn't want to say anything because I thought I had misheard. If what she said was accurate we would be staying in Concierge, what happened to our Standard Room I wondered, had we been upgraded?
We stood for what seemed like an eternity before one of the management guys came towards us. He shook our hands and told us to leave our luggage with the desk and he would show us to the 3rd floor. I followed and looked over to Steven, who seemed oblivious. I motioned to Steven if he knew what was happening, that we had been upgraded, but he just looked like he was in shock.
As we followed him, he started to explain that we had been upgraded and for the next 7 nights we would be staying in RPC at no extra charge. He mentioned the gold cards that we would have to use to access the elevators, he went on to talk about the spread that they put on every day for breakfast, lunch, dinner and of course snacks, all of these we could just help ourselves to. He talked about how our dining plan was now on our special gold cards along with our Disney tickets. We would never have to contact the front desk for anything, we had our own Concierge who would be happy to make dining reservations, although he saw that we had loads already, but they would also make show reservations, give us information and make any other type of arrangements we wanted.
All of this he talked about while Steven and I fell silent. I didn't know what to say, I mean this was too much, I was speechless. He went on to say that our room wasn't ready yet but we were welcome to stay on the 3rd floor and wait for it, it apparently wouldn't be long. He shook our hands again and handed us our pack of info along with more 'Just Married' pins and wished us a hearty Congratulations. Within a flash he was gone and we were left alone on the 3rd floor. We both walked over to the balcony and Steven took some pics:
The chandelier was beautiful and everything looked so elegant.
This was a picture of where the band would normally sit.
We walked around the 3rd floor while we waited and then we sat down and read the paper. We both were eager to get to our room and I was anxious to see the view
Coming up...
