strange habits your pets have?

We have a cat that will lick the water left in the sink and tub from when we brush our teeth and shower. :confused3

One of my dogs does this. He'll lick water off of anything. He likes it when we run the water from the faucet down our hand for him to lick as well.

Another strange habit that our older dog has involves chew toys. He'll only chew a rawhide if the younger dog has chewed on it first and softened it up a bit. Before we got the puppy, he wouldn't chew rawhide at all, only Dingos.

Our sweet Golden Retriever has his "babies." These are a couple of our kids old stuffed animals that he has had for years. He is very gentle with them and holds them in his mouth and kind of sucks on them. Sometimes he uses them as little pillows and puts his head on them when he sleeps. When we return home from being gone for a while (doesn't matter if it is one hour or 8, the first thing he does is run and find one, grabs it and runs in circles crying!

Oh, I forgot about the babies! Rowan (my cat) has 2--one's a Beanie Baby that's a grey tabby just like him, and the other's a BB knockoff brown bear. He got the bear just after he was adopted and used to carry it around the house by its tail. He still has it and sleeps with it in the cat tower, but doesn't carry it around anymore.

But his kitty is his favorite:

We have a Golden Retriever, Zoe who is 4 and a Papillon, Mojo who is 11mo. Mojo is obsessed with his little cat toy, a laser mouse. The thing has needed new batteries for months now(and I can't find replacements)so one day the boys were playing with their Nerf guns and I noticed Mojo freaking out/running around, he noticed the laser on one of the guns! So the boys like playing with him with the Nerf guns. Or the reflection from the light or sun on my phone, a mirror, front door when I open it, anything really. He starts barking and crying and runs around after it, it is so amusing and keeps him busy. When I put his little sweaters or t-shirts on him his mood instantly changes, he gets totally ticked off with me and will retreat to his crate and hang out there. He can't look more irritated when I hold him when he has his clothes on. As soon as I take it off he is kissing me again and loves to be held.

Zoe actually doesn't have any weird traits, she just takes all the abuse from a 7lb puppy! Whenever Zoe actually gets a toy in her mouth and all comfy on the floor to chew, in swoops Mojo to take it out. When they start to play used to just get on his hind legs and kind of bap the toy out of her mouth with his paws, now that she learned to just lift her head a little higher he has learned to naw her in the leg so she releases the toy. When we first got Mojo he would leave some food in his bowl after his two meals and for some reason she would never eat it! I was confused the first couple times I walked past his water bowl to see it completely dry, she'll drink from the small water dish and Mojo drinks from hers.

No babies in this house, they both chew up stuffed animals and would eat eyes, noses and stuffing if allowed! Now our Akita we used to have had a huge basket filled with stuffed babies and would never eat any part of them, just run around with one in her mouth.

My dog takes her kibble from her bowl puts it all in her mouth then goes under the coffee table and eats it.

Our golden does the same thing. I always have to tell her to leave the baby inside when she is going out to do her business. Carries them all over, she has 3 or 4 favorites.

Our dog is a Boykin Spaniel. She will bring her empty food/water bowls to us. After we fill the bowls and she eats/drinks she comes back in and finds the person who filled her bowl, then she licks them 3 times on the back of the hand and goes on to play. We like how she says thank you every time.

We have 3 cats, and they each have their own strange habits.

Purrcey is a 16 lb male- he climbs up the ladder to DD's loft bed to cuddle with her. He is also our "foodie" cat- he loves people food. Buttered noodles, pancakes, and garlic bread are his favorites.

Lily loves to crawl into any bag, box, basket, or other open container, no matter how small. She is a pretty small little gal, but she tries to curl up into some really tiny little spaces. She also loves to climb up high, and will hang out on top of the fridge. She also walks across the curtain rods.

GiGi, our long haired Siamese, hates other cats. She hisses and growls at the other 2- she will even sit on the windowsill and growl at cats and dogs outside. She also leaves us little "poop presents" around the house- yuck!! Mostly in out-of-the-way corners.

Yup, same thing here. We always say "drop the baby, drop the baby!"

I have two cats. They only drink out of the faucet. They also fetch anything you throw. But, they will bring you anything they want you to throw so they can play fetch...Yesterday, one of them was rummaging through my suitcase and pulled out some "female products" that I had packed and brought them to me... I could not stop laughing because she looked like a big dummy sitting there with them hanging out of her mouth. (probably too much info, but it was hilarious!!!)

you don't want to know what our yorkie Winston does with his stuffed animals..... Lets just say he has his way with them.....

I'm new to this kitten/cat thing but my vet assures me its all normal:confused3

Only drinks out of a running tap and every time I fill his water bowl he dumps it like "hey stupid...I'm not drinking old water"

Pees, yes I did say pees, in the shower over the drain (every morning after I get out) although he has not been doing this so much the last couple of weeks

Cleans his paws in the toilet after using the litter box, one paw, lick/lick, second paw, lick/lick...you get the picture. I figured this out after finding litter in the toilet water day after day and decided to scout it out. I have since moved the litter box into the basement and this has stopped.

Drowns any stuffed mice:rotfl: He has lots of toys but every time we buy a stuffed mouse we find it in the toilet and he refuses to play with it!

Nurses off a stuffed cow that he kneads/nurses until he falls asleep every night, yuck, I hate the noise:sad2:

I don't ever remember any of my dogs doing such things!

my cat MUST sit on the side of the shower while you take a shower. If you close the door without him in there, he will whine and meow until you open the door to let him in. He also has this beanie baby bear that looks like Ronald McDonald that he must "kill" every time he finds it. He will put it somewhere, and then stalk it and attack. I'm surprised it has held up as long as it has.

My other cat knows how to open cupboards, knows how to lift the toilet seat to play in the water, and turns on the touch lamp that is on my night stand with his nose when he comes into the room. I couldn't figure out how it was being turned on until I followed him in and actually saw him do it. He jumps up on the stand, touched the metal with his nose, and then jumps on to the bed.

My one cat is a VERY VERY loud cat. You can hear her purr 2 rooms away she's not a very good hider and she meows ALL THE TIME.:headache: So when the baby naps I lock her in the upstairs bathroom. Wouldn't you know this cat figured out how to move the drop ceiling blocks come down the walls some how :confused3 onto the first floor kitchen ceiling where they have a block moved and get out of the bathroom!! I had to put a weight in the ceiling so she couldn't move the blocks!

Our dwarf hamster is our male German Shepherd's pet. It was not planned that way, but he adopted her. He follows her hamster ball around the house to make sure that she is safe and nudges her free when she gets trapped somewhere. If he loses interest and lies down, the hamster will come over and "nudge" his nose and paws until he gets up and starts following her again.

When we adopted our female German Shepherd, we waited a couple weeks before putting the hamster in its hamster ball to roam around the house. Predictably, the female thought it was a toy and pounced on it. Our male lunged at our female (and he is normally very gentle with her when they play), grabbed her neck, and threw her off. He then stood over the hamster ball for several minutes, growling whenever the female got too close. Over the next hour, he taught our female to play "appropriately" with the hamster - meaning, the ball is not touched! Our female is now also allowed to follow around the hamster. :rotfl:

It was the funniest thing I've ever seen.

I forgot another one my Golden Retriever does... she is a hunting dog, which I always forget... until she "stalks" the TV when animal shows are on. :rotfl:

I guess this isn't a strange habit but one of our cats LOVES yogurt and goes crazy when she smells it. She will jump on your lap, try to lick the yogurt out of the container and off the spoon. We've started to buy plastic spoons and save the last bit of yogurt just to give her some!!

Also, the same cat goes nuts when someone is on speaker phone and rubs up against the phone and purrs and purrs and purrs.

EDIT: I keep remembering more silly things!

Our other cat (25 pound fur ball!) loves to sit on the computer keyboard and chase the computer "mouse". Adorable! And he drinks out of the pool.

Thankfully this is not a habit, but the weirdest thing my neurotic cat Baby did was this: She followed me into the bathroom/laundry room. I shut the door and sat down to relieve myself. Baby jumped into the laundry basket full of clean clothes, propped her front two paws up on the side, stared *right in my eyes* and peed at the same time as I did, all over the clean laundry. I couldn't even stop her in the act!

She thankfully has never done that again, but if she follows me in now, she jumps in the bathtub or stands just outside of it and scratches the edge of the tub like she's pulling down imaginary litter with her paw for me - showing me what to do, I guess. She really likes to follow me in to do that.
