~*~ Stick It! A thread for Gymnastics Parents ~*~

Wow Looks like everyone is off to a good start. Keep the meet results coming. Our first meet isn't until Nov.

:yay: :yay: :yay: We are definately doing the Sand Dollar at Disney. :yay: :yay: :yay:

I booked hotel, park tickets and flights for DD and myself tonight.

DH and DS are staying home as DH refuses to fly. I am leary on taking DS along because he is in 3rd grade this year and I am dreading the homework, also we are taking at family WDW trip in April so he will miss 6 days then.

Barb

I would so love to go to that meet! I'm just green with envy.:thumbsup2 We did that last year and next year and we are doing another meet in WDW in Febuary 2010. The only thing we didn't like about the Sand Dollar is only a top few (I'm thinking 3 but don't quote me) got medal's out of something like 80 in a level. It was a very low number for the $85 meet fee.

Our coach hired a photographer to come and take pictures for us while we were there. What makes him unique is we got all of the photo's and the rights to all of the pictures. So for $20 a family, everyone got a CD with a ton of prints. There is a great one of my DH standing alone with all of the bags surrounding him because he was the pack mule for that trip.

She did great for a first timer. She was very calm and focused which I was so happy about. Her scores were: Vault: 8.875, Bars: 8.35, Beam: 8.325, Floor: 8.85. Her All Around score was 34.4.

She is thrilled. Bars and Beam are her hardest events and she has been working so hard on those. She said the beam was wobbly and shook while they were doing their routines, but she was the only one to stay on the whole routine and finish in the required time.

She has qualified for Zones (needed 32 AA score) and almost qualified for States (need 35 AA score). She was hoping for Zones and can now see that States is possible.

Next competition on Saturday and she wants to qualify for States at this one.

Michelle

Wow Michelle SHe did great. I know you meant 8.875 but you might want to fix that :lmao:
Good luck next weekend. I hope she qualifies for states.

My daughter was on track for level 7, but within the last 3 weeks she has hit a mental block. She has lost her backhandspring on the beam ( she has had for 8 months) as well as she will hardly do a RO BH BT with out being spotted and helped. She hasn't even tried her layout in awhile. If anyone has any suggestions as to how to help her and get her over her problems it would be great. Her bars and vault are fine, its just the beam and floor. We start our main meet season in 2 months. :confused3

I really don't have any suggestions, but I do sympathize. My dd had a huge mental block with twisting and it lasted for about 5/6 months. We are just getting over it and she now has her half back, where before the block she had a full.

The coaches eventually stopped all back tumbling with my dd and started with the basics again. For awhile all she did was front tumbling. Eventually she got her front full and I think this is what gave her the confidence to try the back twisting again. When she did start to back tumble again all she basically did was hurdle RO-BHS and that was it. She has only started running into a RO whatever now. It was very slow and frustrating to watch - I feel your pain.

Maybe she is starting to feel the pressure. If they take it back to basics and rebuild, maybe she would start to regain confidence. Once they start to lack confidence, it just all seems to go down hill. My dd started talking about not being a good gymnast and that she would never get any skills - she was the State Champion in her age group for level 7 and she was so far down. Even though she was excelling at the other events, all she could focus on was floor. As a parent it was extremely hard to watch.

Good luck and many prayers....

Hey all! We had our 2nd meet of the season this morning. DD did AMAZING!

At our 1st meet this year, she had gotten her first ever 9. Today she got THREE!!!!!! (we won't talk about the other event :-) ) Anyway, she ended up with 5th AA, 4th on bars, 2nd on floor, and 1st on beam. She told me in the car that she never thought she would ever get 1st on anything. She was in shock. That was the most fun I've had at a meet in a long time.

:thumbsup2 :cool1: :dance3: :yay: YEAH!!! Great Job!!

Some things went well and some things not so well. She started on Floor and slipped on her handstand, backbend, kick over = no kick over. Vault was ok, Bars better than last week, Beam did great until dismount and then fell on dismount and had to redo it. So all in all her scores were:

Vault = 8.6
Bars = 8.6
Beam = 7.775
Floor = 8.2

AA score = 33.175

She still did great, but was frustrated by the silly mistakes on skills that are usually so easy for her.

So we are now on to next weekend and then a weekend off.

Those scores are still great. This weekend will be even better without the mistakes.:thumbsup2 :cool1:

I can sympathize. My DD called me crying from the gym a few months ago because she lost her back walk over on the beam. She wanted me to come get her, she was crying so hard she couldn't calm down.

Both my DD's were at a sleepover at the gym against my better decision. DD10 has a travel soccer game and a basketball game this afternoon and DD8 has a travel soccer game. They are both dead asleep in my bed at the moment and there is going to be tears when I have to wake them up.

Great job on her 2nd kip. What level will she be competing 4 or 5?

Congrats to all of those that are competing. DD does not have her first meet until Dec. We did have a great practice on Friday, she did her kip again. Not once, but twice and I even got it on video. I uploaded it on Youtube so the girls that went off to college can see. Here is the link:

She will compete level 4 from Dec to March, then in the fall which is compulsory season for WI compete level 5. She has almost everything for 5 except the vault and cast squat on--jump to high bar.

Good for her, it will all come in time! The kip was a real bugger for my dd, but we are long past that now. But in the world of gymnastics, it is always something that will get them.

Good luck to your dd in Level 4, I hope she has a rockin' season.:wizard:

Bumping this to the top, how are all the gymmies doing?????????

7 weeks until Bug's first meet.

Barb

Big news on our front. DD is changing gyms next month and will move up to level 5. That makes level 2 to level 5 in six months! Woo hoo! :cool1:

Anyway, she's going to train L5, compete a couple of meets in May, hopefully score out of L6 next fall and be training L7 by this time next year, if all goes well. She's also going to do TOPs at the new gym and hopefully be ready to test by next summer. :banana:

She did really good this meet (occurred the 1st weekend of october), her scores are in her typical range, but medalwise she did awesome.

Vault: 8.650 (9th)
Bars: 8.40 (3rd)
Beam: 8.45 (3rd)
Floor: 8.5 (3rd)
All Around: 34.0 (3rd)

The scores over all seemed to be a lot lower than other meets we have been at. Very few 9s except on the vault. She was thrilled, thought she still missed the score for States.

Our team also got 1st place over all. Which was very exciting for all the girls.

Our next meet is Saturday....here in town at another local gym (the competition!!! LOL) The couches are really working the girls hard. They want us to do well here most of all I think. One of the coaches was trained at the other gym growing up). DD had to do 100 push-ups and v-ups because her legs were bent and her toes weren't pointed on her handstand on the beam. Man that was a lot, but her next routine she did so much better.

My DD has been taking gymnastics/tumbling for a little less than a year. She just joined the team...which has her so excited that I can't keep her from tumbling in my house.

She's doing okay...started on level 2 team and is just this [ ] close to getting her back handspring without a spot. Not bad for a short period of time, I think.

I don't look for my daughter to ever be a level 7 or 8 competitor, but considering where she has been in life and where she is now, I'm really happy for her. :goodvibes
