~*~ Stick It! A thread for Gymnastics Parents ~*~

I wish I could be at nationals, but just not happening this year.

I like Bross and the fact that she doesn't have to look so made up all the time. Even though I love Nastia and her princess look, it's nice to see something other than a clone. I am hoping gymnastics doesn't go the way of figure skating with the glamour, so I'm glad to see Bross out there looking like an athlete!

From what I have heard from friends there, Jana looks so sad, lost, and dejected. I think she has been ill, so that would explain some of the looking like she is out of shape. However, that doesn't explain the terrible form that she and her coach/mama have refused to correct.

I feel bad for this girl. It seems as if she has no life out of gym. Her mother is not only her coach, but was her teacher and doctor as well. Jana would have a great NCAA career if she wouldn't have gone pro.

I hope Bridget Sloan makes a comeback tomorrow night. Her new bars release was incredible!

I have to study the scores, but Jana must have had a really good night Saturday night to have risen from 13th to 6th. Poor thing - they don't even show her on TV any more, even when she gets great scores.

My D's and I said the same thing about Rebecca Bross - that she looks like an athlete rather than a gymnast - we said we could see her excelling at softball or volleyball as easily as gymnastics. It was difficult to watch her bars on Saturday, but she showed a lot of toughness to do a great floor and vault. I loved her reaction after her vault - pleased but knowing she was still screwed due to her bars and beam...her face reminded me so much of my own 16 year old, dealing with the joys and sorrows of life.

I was at Congress during Nationals last week. I didn't get to go watch any of the gymnastics this time. After being in coaching clinics all day, I was just too tired. I think I am getting old.:lmao:

I did see many great gymnast from the past. All of the coaches stay in the same hotel. I did have a great time and I learned a lot of new drills to teach my girls. All of your gymnast should do lots of new things this week.

Nope, I wish!!!!

Dd's flyaway is to the WOGA Classic. Had to suck it up and buy airlines tickets for the weekend from h*ll (Valentine's weekend, President's weekend and just so happens to be the same city as the NBA All Star Weekend - yeah no breaks for me on airfare! :scared1:)

Hey everybody,

Just wondering if anybodys going to the Sanddollar Invite Jan 22-24 in Disney? :cool1:

OUCH!

We don't do a meet that far away. I wish we did go to WDW, though. Our gym owner is a huge WDW fan, so I guess it could happen. ;)

After months and months of being an unhappy gymnast and coach issues, DD finally decided to switch from compulsory to prep-op. It was like picking up a different kid on Tuesday. By the end of last night's practice, she already had her new bar routine choreographed and was working on improving it. As long as she is happy, that's all that matters.

The WOGA must be a really good meet, sorry about the airfare yuk..
also going to Excalibur in Virgina Beach but I'm driving (about 9 hrs not looking forward to that)

We'll be at Christmas on the Chesapeake and Maryland Classic, but no Excalibur. Bummer!

9 hrs could easily turn into 12 depending on 95 - just trying to brighten your day... ;)

Nice to hear your DD doing great and is happy with her switch :yay:

A happy gymnast is a successful gymnast!!!

GL to your dd, it is always so much fun getting a new routine (that's only yours!)

My dd just got a new floor routine last week. I love it and can't until her first meet to see it in action, in comp leo and whole 9 yrds.... :woohoo: Her first meet is in November, it will be here before I know it. I can't believe that we are already in Sept. Her 13th birthday is in 13 days and I haven't really thought about it! :scared1:

Not this year, we did that meet last year. DD got some real interesting medals from it, a sand dollar, manatee, starfish and sea turtle. Had she medaled on bars it would have been a sea horse.

We are going to Cancun for the Cancun Classic for our travel meet this year.

Anyone going to IGI Chicago Style?

We went to Chicago Style last yr, it was a lot of fun! HC was thinking of going back there, but I'm glad we're not. We got so lucky last yr as it was 60 degrees in Chicago in Feb, we walked everywhere. If we went this yr, I could only image that it was be negative 10 with 4 feet of snow! :scared1: We couldn't get as lucky as we did last yr.

I so, so wish we'd go to Sand Dollar because I could use pts to stay there and I could still visit the "mouse!":wizard:
