Standing, standing, standing

Ok, maybe I should have been more specific, but I didn't say JUST for me, I said also elderly couples as well as myself with my 6 year old sleeping child who I may have added is nearly as tall as I am so for me to try to balance him and myself standing it can be a challenge. MY beef is more with the young people that see several parents trying to balance themselves and a childAS WELL AS the elderly who are standing, then not only offer a seat to anyone, but stare at those standing like they're annoyed at them for standing in front of them.....we all can't help that Disney won't move the bus til it's packed beyond capacity, so if you're not going to give up your seat to ANYONE who might need it more, at least have the courteousy to not give them the evil eye for standing in front of you.
Apparently the fact that I also stated that I have, sleeping child in tow, also stood up to let someone who needed the seat more sit down got missed, but hey that seems to be par for the course with this board......people only attack you for parts of your comments and don't pay attention to the whole thing.

I think you lost folks when you made a point that you were pushing 40. I just turned 40 and had I not been pregnant, I was planning to be training for another marathon (but I'm the tortoise). Age is just a number. But for some reason you brought emphasis to your age.

I use my discretion when I should relinquish my seat or need one. I have waited for the next bus. I when stood pregnant and while holding a child. I have allowed my child to sit or required then to give up their seat. But it is always at my discretion.

Unless someone looks unable to remain standing, I won't necessarily give up my seat. And it is obvious when a person is truly unable or creating drama because they are feeling entitled to a seat.

And you weren't attacked. You forced others to explain why they should not have to give up their seat when you expressed indignation that it wasn't offered. As it is a discussion, people will agree or rebut accordingly. A rebuttal is not an "attack".

I miss all the benches that used to be around. It was so much easier to sit for 15 minutes.

I can't get down on the ground to sit on curbs anymore so I do try and find some ledges but even those are hard for me to get on unless they are just the right height.

Ah the joys of getting older....

It comes down to the fact that

1) No one knows what someone else is going through. That young person may be pregnant and nauseous, or have RA,lupus or be going through chemo.

2)Even if none of the above apply, and they are just tired, why should they give up their seat? They may very well have done the smart thing and waited for the next bus. Far too many entitled whiny females out there who think that just because they have a uterus, and made the decision to use it, that others should cater to that. Wait for the next dang bus if you cannot
stand

Hmmm... Maybe I opt to sit in places that are non-traditional but I have never lacked for a place to sit down and rub my feet for a few minutes. There are lots of places to put your butt down. Maybe they don't have a back rest but you can "take a load off" your feet easily. This was even during our trip in Aug with very high crowds. Maybe try to look for short walls to sit on. They are great make do benches

We always eat at non-traditional times so even seating for QS meals are not a problem. But I can sure witness how crowded they get at peak lunch hours.

I never have a problem either. MK has a lot of areas in Tomorrowland to sit as well as benches near POTC just to name a few and I feel like there are a lot of areas in EPCOT as well.....these areas may be a bit off the beaten path and not smack in the middle of the action but there are many areas in all of the parks. I have a knee injury and had surgery 2 years ago so I often need to rest a bit so I guess maybe that is why I know of so many.

WDW is really something to see, and I'm grateful that we have. But it feels like a whole lot of work -- planning, ADRs, Fastpasses, touring plans, then march, march, march, stand, stand, stand. We are in no hurry to return.

I agree. I just returned from a trip to WDW. It's the first time I was 1) happy to be headed home, and 2) not looking forward to returning. Much of the trip felt like a forced march. Disney has (temporarily) lost its magic for me.

I don't understand how Disney hasn't figured out a better transportation solution than cramming its guests onto buses like sardines, which is decidedly not magical. Disney talks about its evening shows as the "kiss goodnight"/guests' final impression, but for me the unpleasant ride back to the hotel leaves every bit as much of an impression.

Seriously? Choosing to USE a uterus? If you're male, my response is that your comment is rude and obnoxious. If you're female, my response is that your comment is rude and obnoxious. The status of your uterus or your lack of one is irrelevant.

Any other method of transportation would cost more. Buses move thousands of people every day just fine. If they are not magical enough for someone they are free to use another form of transportation.

I find bus service every few minutes pretty magical, standing or not.

Obviously. But since when has getting things done "just fine" been Disney's standard?

When it keeps a trip to WDW affordable for most. Bus service is the cheapest and most efficient way to move guests. Why would they go to something more expensive and less efficient to please a handful of guests?

I like the bus service. I wouldn't want to pay more to have more buses with seating only or whatever it is you seem to think would be acceptible. Maybe Disney hasn't figured out something better because there isn't anything that would work as well and not cost guests an arm and a leg. Did you stop and consider that?

Since Day One. Disney does, and has always done, what's best for Disney. Whether it's magical, "just fine", or worse, for the paying guests is totally irrelevant.

I agree that standing up is definitely good for you - it is proven to add years to your life. However, I think you should be able to find somewhere to sit comfortably when eating/drinking. For example, the fact that Starbucks doesn't have tables to sit at when having hot coffee and cake is not acceptable. They should open the floor above and put tables and chairs in so you can at least enjoy your expensive treats in air-conditioned comfort.

Obviously while waiting in line you'll be standing, but I never had a problem finding a place to sit around the parks or while we were eating or anything.

I have had a problem finding a seat when eating. Families were sitting on the floor at Cosmic Rays because there were no seats. And, there were still long lines of people in line getting their food.

This is why trash can lid table tops are now a thing. :crowded:

Why are you furious at someone else for not seeing to it that you could sit, when you could have taken care of that yourself? Get a car, grab a taxi, or wait for the next bus. That is what I don't get whenever someone complains that someone else didn't help them out. If your safety and the safety of your family was not a priority FOR YOU why should it be a priority for a total stranger? I'm over 40 and I know that my family is my responsibility. I'm not so silly that I would get on a full bus and expect someone else to bail me out of a situation of my own doing. Is it nice if people offer up their seats? Yes. Is it nice to expect them to, and to be furious if they don't. No.

Wow. My mama raised me better than that. It's called common courtesy.

So how does this common courtesy thing work? If I am hurting but able to stand and I give my seat to someone that is also able to stand, would it be common courtesy to then have the aforementioned person now get up and give me my seat back and then continue that common courtesy fiasco all the way back to the resort, etc.

It's not common courtesy unless it is directed toward a person that has a disability. Be that disability physical or age related. To think that one should be allowed to sit strictly because they are female (due to apparently being the weaker sex), or in this case, a mother with a child, is somewhat dark ages thinking. She is capable of standing and the chances are her child is too, just wake 'um up. They will go back to sleep when they get there.

Yeah, my 2 DS's and I sat on the floor at Main St. Starbucks in late August to eat snack right after the park opened. (I.e., quiet day at the park; still no seating.) Many other kids were sitting on the floor too, also enjoying $5 cookies or the like. I drank coffee sitting on a floor. Ridiculous.

I don't think it is very courteous to get on a full bus and expect that someone else give you a seat. I think it is pretty discourteous to your own family to put them in that position in the first place.

Someone can't see to it that their family is safe and comfortable, yet a complete stranger lacks common courtesy for not doing it instead? No.

If someone freely offers their seat, then that is great! But getting on a bus expecting someone to do so and then getting mad when they don't is not great. Pretty rude and self centered.

Great way to put it. Completely agree! :thumbsup2
