Standing, standing, standing

As a young 20-something, I don't need to automatically relinquish my seat to you because you are standing with a child and "pushing 40." We are all tired - because I'm younger doesn't make me less tired than you. That said, I generally will give up my seat in this instance, or to elderly or someone in a cast/crutches/etc, but you really shouldn't have "beef" with someone who doesn't.

As someone who is pushing 40, I completely agree.

I didn't want to pull this line out, but a lot of people have hidden ailments or otherwise that they need that seat for. But you can't see that and wouldn't know unless told, so instead you have beef with them for "making" you stand.

You are always welcome to wait for the next bus, take a cab or rent a car if you really need that seat. We are paying the same, and while it might be seen as courteous, just because you have a sleeping child doesn't mean you get the right to my seat, and can give me the side eye for an entire ride if I don't jump up for you.

If I got up for every child I saw, I would never be able to sit myself. That isn't really fair, is it?

I am 40 and I agree with you. We specifically wait for the next bus, allowing others to board a standing room only bus ahead of us, so we will board first on the next bus. In that instance, the only person I'm giving up my seat for is my Mother.

A few years ago when people started to notice the benches disappearing a few of theories were thrown out: One was that Disney was fed up with the benches causing arguments. People would sit in them near where the fireworks can be viewed or a parade, and then get mad if people stood in front of them. Like they though the bench also claimed a 15 foot perimeter of space.

Second was that Disney was sick of accident reports from kids climbing on them and then falling off.

Third was that people were moving the benches and impeding the flow of traffic. Not sure how true any of the above is, but they all do make some sense.

I work in Risk Management at a hospital and I can tell you that one or all of these would be a reason to remove some of the benches. We have moved benches because they impede the flow of traffic in the hallways, tripping hazards, etc. And who's fault does it become when someone runs into it? Of course it's ours...:rolleyes1

Can't you just see the throng of people trying to leave after Wishes and keep running into benches because no one is paying attention (and it's dark) or the people behind you keep pushing forward? It's hard enough sometimes to move as it is without putting basically a sandbar in the middle (or even to the side) of the river of bodies flowing out the door.

I know it sucks but sometimes it's easier to just remove something that 90% of the people won't have an issue with for the 10% who cause havoc. That is what this world has become.

You could take up smoking. There are always places to sit in the smoking section and I hear it's a great habit to pick up in your 70s ;)

Seriously though, last trip I was riding ToT solo and told my wife a time to meet me back at the exit. I got off about 15 minutes early and saw all this glorious low wall space to sit on and rest. Made myself comfy, took a survey and prepared to wait. Till suddenly I was overcome with a wall of smoke that looked like the snow storm hitting Buffalo. Turns out all that precious sitting space was part of a large smoking section

Not allowed by Disney for use in the parks. You cannot bring in any kind of seat.

I am so glad the DLR hasn't gone the way of WDW. One of my favorite things to do is sit on a bench near the partners statue and people watch. It just seems that WDW management is thinking of ways to make their guests miserable. I don't think benches were ever placed in areas where traffic was blocked.
My grandma once fell asleep on those benches during a parade, when I was a kid. :upsidedow

Somebodies always thinking anyway.

Flipstick makes a crossover, but not sure if allowed in or not.

Not very comfy anyway I'm sure.

This subject came up not too long ago. And from what I can recall, things like rollators are allowed, as they are also used to help someone move around the park. Items that are just seats are not allowed, as they have no other purpose and Disney does not allow guests to bring seats in.

Just please, please don't sit in the smoking section and then complain about the smoke! I don't need to sit while smoking - in fact it seems weird to me - so I'd welcome those just looking for a place to rest their feet, but it makes me crazy to hear about people complaining about smoke in the flippin' smoking section! :rolleyes2

I think they are allowed, but I wouldn't use one in line or anywhere they could be thought of as in the way.

My MIL had a cane / portable seat that she tried to use to sit in the roped off Festival of Fantasy FP area and was told she couldn't - liability issue.

Sitting on a curb is ghetto? That's pretty funny. Some of us think it's fun to sit down and watch the world pass by without needing a seat. It has never struck me as "ghetto."

I couldn't agree with you more! I'm not going to get up for someone JUST because they appear to be 20 years older than me. Sure, I'm going to get up for the elderly, and someone who clearly needs the seat (crutches, casts, braces, aides). I'm not going to get up for a 40 year old woman and her child just because she's tired. I'm tired too, and you know what, if my 2 year old son were with me and I was standing with him asleep, should someone else get up? NO. If I NEED to sit that badly, I'll wait for the next bus with seating available, or I'll just deal with it and get to my resort as quickly as possible. I'm 30 and I would NEVER expect anyone to give up their seat for me, I don't care if they're 1, 10 or 25. It isn't anyone's responsibility to take care of myself and my family.

I'd lose the sense of entitlement and stop having "beef" with someone just because they don't want to give up the seat they waited for.

I've stood on the buses many times with a sleeping child. When it gets hard I remind myself that I'm very blessed to be married to a guy who would never sit when any woman was standing.

I believe it, especially the parts about kids climbing on them and the fireworks squatters.

My Nephew has a disability and will just sit whenever and wherever he feels like it. :goodvibes

This is waiting for a boat after Fantasmic.

Yep, another thing I noticed about DLR when I was there recently - plenty of seating and shade!

WDW and DLR are siblings - DLR is the cool, laid back, west coast brother, WDW is the stingy, east coast banker!

Just kiddin!
