THANKS FOR READING OUR TRIP REPORT! Our next trip will be a bit different seeing as we are having our baby in August and she will be 3 months old when we go to WDW for Thanksgiving! :)

We are heading down to SSR in less than a month and want to be able to ask for the best place to stay. Do you ask at check in or do you call MS to ask for specific buildings? Also, I have a 2BR and a studio booked for some friends. Do I need to call ahead and ask to have them close together?

I'm leaving in 30 days. I just wanted to bump this thread and see if anybody has more tips...

SSR has Disney's best kept secret; The Turf Club. We have been to the Turf Club at least 7-8 times, every time the meal has been wonderful. If you are on the dining plan, it's a real bargain. I recommend the grilled caesar salad. :thumbsup2

Glad this thread was bumped up! Will definitely ask for directions to our building when we check-in :lmao: We're going in 20 days, I can't wait!

We agree. We were there last December and had dinner there 3 times. Its a relaxing environment compared to the parks, the food was great, and with DDE, the price was right.

DS loved being able to play pool for free just outside of the Turf Club. It is a very nice set up.

Also, when you check in if your location request is not met go ahead and ask if anything else is available. When we were there this summer as I checked in early one morning they had a room available for me in the Paddocks. I had requested the Grandstand or Springs so I said we didn't need a room right away and could she check to see if one of those sections would be available later in the day. Well, much to my surpirse she had many rooms availabe and ready in the Grandstand section at that time. Don't have any idea why they had rooms available in my requested section but put me in a different section. Anyway, I'm glad I asked. We loved the Grandstand.

Another thing, if you have just missed the bus in the Grandstand you can take the walkway to the lobby and go down past the pool to get to the bus stop for the Springs. This is even easier if you are in the buildings closest to the Grandstand pool. Many times we just walked over there instead of going to the Grandstand bus stop.

Also, there are some great chef's specials at Artist Pallet. There are different ones for each day. I had a chicken panini one day that was fabulous!

We have been to SSR on two different trips, and we have yet to eat at Turf Club. We have not purchased any meal plans since I don't think we would eat that much food, and since I am overweight, I don't need the temptations!! The prices at TC seem a little high, especially for four people dining. I have heard very good things about the food at TC, though.

So, instead we buy milk at Artist Point, have cereal and other small things in the room for breakfast, eat lunch at Artist Point (caesar salad and chicken entrees are very good), and then have dinner at DTD on those days that we stay at the resort. We enjoying walking to DTD and having lunch at Fulton's for a change from Artist Point (at either 20 or 30% off), an occasional dinner at Rainforest, or a sandwich at Earl's, followed by ice cream sundaes at Giradelli's. I don't have the sundaes, those are for my family!! lol Well, Ok, maybe I have one...

We usually buy some bottled water for two of us, and the other two buy the refillable mug. My wife likes their tea and I usually get their unsweetened tea. Nice to be able to refill at the big pool. We also bring Splenda and make tea in the room too. We bring a big pitcher from home.

Enjoy your stay! Our next trip to SSR is at Thanksgiving with my DF and DM. They can't wait to join us!!

We are going next Jan. Can anyone tell me about how long it takes from congress park to main pool? This looks like a fun location

This is a map posted by BroganMc. She knows a lot about SSR. Check out the map below to look at distances to get around SSR. It is a beautiful resort. :)

thanks to BroganMc! Your map is wonderful and I will be using it on our upcoming May 17-25th trip!
It is our first stay at SSR even though we bought more points there a long time ago! (our first trip 'Home"--how exciting is that!?!?)
Since we won't have a car and don't have little ones, I like the Grandstand location.
Also, the tip about if you miss your grandstand bus and walking to the springs bus stop is INVALUBLE information! --seems like we always "miss the bus" by 20 seconds!!! Now we will be sure to catch one or the other--thank you:worship:

I'll be there May 26th-June 2nd. Subbing.

Love the little ones name! My oldest is Lily and my youngest is Eva (pronounced A-va)! :thumbsup2 Just in case you need another name our middle one is Cora. ;)

But onto the tips... We rented our DVD's at the community hall; they are free with a room key. Community hall is definitely worth checking out and seeing what activities are going on during the week. We made free bead key chains and the CM's are great. They gave a towel animal to my girls. There is also a nice big TV for watching sporting events and such. The same CM's run games, trivia and movies at the main pool. You can get life jackets and swimming noodles for free with a room key at the rental window.

My DD loved making drawings at the Artist Palette; they put out tabletop easels with big sheets of paper and crayons.

If you are a guest at the resort you have access to the workout room at the spa and the spa locker rooms. Even if you don't do a spa treatment, the locker rooms are really nice and have a steam room, sauna and whirlpool. Great for relaxing! We loved our time there and plan to spend more time at the resort this year. Good luck, Marriedmyprince
