SS Tips and Tricks

Oh and if when you check in you see a charming girl driving a purple & black power wheelchair say hi. I'll be staying there May 14-21st.

We'll be there May 17-21 and I will keep an eye out for you.

I will likely be the harassed looking Mom wondering why she ever thought a 'mommy and son' trip seemed like a great idea LOL. :rotfl:

Hmm, what's your son's name? I'll be listening for that "Geofrey no. Geofrey I said NO. Geofrey, are you even listening to me?! GEOFREY!!" Substitute Geofrey for whatever your darling boy's name actually is.

Just look for the girl in the pink fluffy slippers. I expect they'll be taking a few early morning strolls about the place.

We are staying at Grandstand now - just a tip - if you have a lot of luggage etc. there are no luggage carts available. You will need to ask for bell services and they will bring a cart and take your luggage to your room. Didn't know that at check in - but will certainly use it when we check out. We had to make quite a number of trips since there was only the 2 of us.

So you're telling us you aren't exactly a light packer huh?! What I love is the grocery trips, especially to one of the hotel type resorts. Now that is a lot of fun!:scared1:

Do they stil give you a DVC Member discount on groceries and food at Artist Palette?

I should have said that. We went from a Marriott resort one morning to SSR. No luggage carts to be found. (Guests horded them at Marriott.) So I and a friend were hauling all our junk (and my dad's) down three floors to the car, then had to reverse it for SSR (though that was on the first floor).

Pack rats do not fare well at Disney.:scared:

One suggestion I would make to the cast members at the Carriage House is: When you are giving directions to those guests who are staying at the Springs, don't just draw a circle around the building indicating where their rooms are. That's what they did to us and we tried to get through the spa to get to our room. It would have been hilarious if it weren't so late at night. Don't assume that guests who have never been there before know about the bus stops and the path to the buses. But that was how we had to get to our room---go down the bus path and go past the bus stop and your building will be there. Of course, trying to find the entrance was another story.:rotfl2:

This same thing happened to DD and me in January! We went around the pool, through the spa, back out by Artist's Palette, finally around and down the bus path. We then went *all the way around* our building before finally finding the hallway to our room! Oy. After that, though, it was a great vacation!:goodvibes

dvd rentals: Do all the rooms at SSR have DVD players? We are staying in a studio. Are the movies mostly family/kid movies or do they have a decent selection?

All the rooms have DVD players but I was not real impressed with the movie selection at SSR. It looked like it was another resorts old list. We had just moved from VWL and the list there seemed much more extensive.

Great thread! lots of useful information! We'll be there in June! Subscribing now!

We are making our first trip to Disney with our 10 yo daughter and staying at SSR October 2007. We rented points from a DVC owner. I have SO many questions. Any help is appreciated.

1. Our flight lands at 9:30 pm. If we use ME when will our luggage arrive?
2. Does ME bring luggage right to the room? If its late do they show up at 1 am?
3. If we keep our luggage with us and arrange alternatve transortation, how in the world do we lug it all to our rom if there are no bellhops or luggage carts? We are not sure if we are renting a car and one of us is somewhat physically limited.

Any other tips are appreciated.

I believe the routine is for luggage to show up in your room by 4pm whether or not you're in it. The only time ME luggage has shown up late has been when it was delayed somehow and the guest called Bell Services looking for it. Bell Services close down at midnight-1am.

Bell Services is located just outside the Carriage House at SSR. You'll pass it on your way to checking in. They have all the carts as well as golf carts designed to hold luggage and transport guests to rooms. When you leave, just call Bell Services and they'll come around with a cart to help you transfer your luggage wherever you need. Tipping is extra.

We have physical limitations in our travel group too, but we opted to just cart the luggage from car to room ourselves. You'd be amazed what you can carry on the back of a power wheelchair and/or scooter.:cloud9:

A few more tips for you all:

Tip # 2

As DVC members, you get free DVD rentals. In SSR just go to Artist Point (the gift store side) and look for the DVD binder. It contains a page for every movie in the library. When you have your selection, go to the nearest checkout clerk and show them the movie you want. They'll collect it for you. Rentals are for 24 hours, I believe.
