LONDON (Reuters) - A squirrel is spreading terror in a Cheshire town where it keeps attacking people.
Its latest victim was a two-year-old girl, British newspapers reported on Thursday.
Children have been attacked, grown men chased and residents of Knutsford, central England, are fearful of letting their kids out to play, the Times newspaper said.
The rogue squirrel's latest attack was on toddler Kelsi Morley who was bitten on the forehead.
"It was awful because she (Kelsi) was spinning around and we couldn't get it off," her mother told the newspaper.
"From the amount of blood there was, I thought it had taken Kelsi's eye out."
The squirrel eventually let go and the terrified youngster was rushed to a doctor.
Colin Booty, a senior scientific officer in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said it was very unusual for a squirrel to behave like this.
Local resident Blanche Kellye said the problem was not funny. "Everyone round here is living in fear...it's a vicious little thing. I'll never trust squirrels again."

It sounds like it is rabid.:(

Wonder if Animal Control is trying to catch it. That must have be horrifying for that little girl and her mother.

Okay, I'll admit when I first read Children have been attacked, grown men chased and residents of Knutsford, central England, are fearful of letting their kids out to play, the first thought in my mind was one of a bad disaster movie or a SNL skit showing a town gripped in fear of a cute little squirrel or wondering if the squirrel was radioactive and now the little girl will become Squirrel-Girl (yes, I know, I've read too many comic books :teeth: )

Was that the entire article? A more serious thought was that the squirrel is rabid. I hope it isn't and that little girl will be okay, but that's the only thing I can think of for the squirrel's behavior.

I can't believe I'm reading this post! It reminds me of a story that my daughter loves to hear me tell her.

When I was still young and single, I went to a party at a friend's cottage. A male friend and I were sitting on some swings in a park nearby. A sweet, little squirrel started walking up to us. I said "Oh, look how cute, he's coming to see us". At that very moment, the squirrel jumped up at me and no matter how high I swung, it kept jumping. So we decided we needed to jump off the swings and make a run for it. That squirrel was right at our heels and we were running really fast.

Our friend's grandpa and his dog were outside and the squirrel started to attack the dog. Grandpa grabbed a baseball bat and began to attack the squirrel. It was pretty scary, but sounds very ridiculous now.

Honest. It's a true story. I stay far from all squirrels until this day.
