SPOILERS welcome!! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie - Part 2

Was anyone else annoyed with the fact that Harry was blocking Avada Kedavra curses during his fight scene with Voldemort? It's supposed to be unblockable! I guess it could be possible that they weren't killing curses, just some other curse that shows green, but why wouldn't Voldemort be trying to kill Harry? This movie is just full of little things like this that makes me think that the filmakers just kind of skimmed through the book.
I most definitely could be wrong about this, but wouldn't it be because Harry was the true master of the Elder Wand, and it would not kill its master? It never worked properly for Voldemort, because he wasn't the true master.

This is exactly the reason. This is why voldemort killed Snape, he thought it would then work for him. It didn't. Voldemort never realized that Harry was the true master of the wand because he was only thinking as to who killed Dumbledore, not who disarmed him.

What I loved:
- Snape's memories, especially the one after Lily was dead and he was holding her

This was my absolute favorite part of the whole movie. Even before book 7 came out I knew Snape was always on the good side. I know they took some creative liberties with Snape's memories adding some things that aren't mentioned in the book (ie Snape going to Godricks Hollow after the Potters are killed) but I thought it was brilliant. They totally made Snape my favorite character and Alan Rickman's performance was fantastic!

Seeing Snape holding Lily's body and crying was heartbreaking!! I cried and cried!! He did a brillant job.

It was brilliant! I don't care about all the missing parts & the changes they made, it was so emotional & full of action, we enjoy it a lot :thumbsup2

It was so good. I went yesterday at 7 pm!!!! I'm going again tonight at 930 and tomorrow sometime. I can't explain how excited I am and how sad I am that it's all over.

What I loved:
- Molly Weasley dueling with Bellatrix Lestrange
- Ron and Hermione kissing
- Luna yelling at Harry!
- McGonagall casting protective spells and dueling Snape
- Snape's memories, especially the one after Lily was dead and he was holding her
- Aberforth's presence during the battle at Hogwarts
- the way they showed the multiplication of the items touched in Bella's vault
- I always love the times when they take the polyjuice potion and the characters have to lipsynch the words. always gets me.
- The final ending scene when they are all together at the train station. LOVED IT. Albus Potter was worried about being in Slytherin and Harry told him about how awesome Snape was :cloud9:

These were my favorite parts of the movie as well! Overall it was an amazing movie. It was so much fun waiting in line and talking to other HP fans. I'm really going to miss the midnight book sales and movies and getting to know so many fun people. :sad1:

OMG - I know!!! I had tears streaming down my cheeks! I was so happy with the way they did that whole pensieve scene and showed Snape's love for Lily!

Me too! You really felt how much he loved her. I really didn't expect it to be that intense!

I, for one, was happy that I didn't have to watch Fred die on-screen!

We agree again! Seeing Tonks and Lupin laying there hands almost touching was hard enough (that split second scene really got dd), I couldnt' have stood it if they had done the whole scene with Fred.

I was really, really hoping that Harry was going to walk over and slightly move them so their hands were together!

I agree-I bet we see an Oscar nod for him for this movie, he was amazing.

We originally planned on going on Sunday but it rained all day today so plans changed and we went. Easily the BEST movie of them all, very well done. Other than Harry not fixing his wand I think they did a good job tying everything up in this one. I think it was easier to follow-for those that have read the books-then the other movies. The filming was amazing as well as the effects. I think I might see this in 3D-I can see where that would enhance the effects in this one :thumbsup2

I wish he'd repaired his wand instead of breaking the elder wand. That could have been done without time or plot difficulties.

Ah, See, while I would have been happier if Harry had mended his own wand first, I thought that by breaking the wand, the filmmakers fixed a loose end that Rowling left. It always bothered me that Harry didn't see the danger in being the owner of the Elder Wand. If another power hungry person comes along, the wand is still usable in the books, especially if PHP kills Harry in combat, which, as an auror, is always a possibility. By breaking the wand, he made sure that a new Voldemort could not rise & use it.

As for the Percy thing, I was glad to see him, even just in glimpses in the shots with the Weasley family, even if they didn't get into the whole reconcilliation theme.

DH and I just got back from seeing it in 3D. I sobbed and sobbed. DH was laughing at me. I told him I was pregnant and allowed to cry! ;)

I loved the movie. I think they did a great job. I did spend the whole movie telling DH the things that were different than the book, but I do that every time :lmao: In the end, I know they couldn't include everything.

I'm soooooo glad they didn't cut Mrs. Weasley's line to Bellatrix. Loved Neville kicking some butt!

ETA: I freaked out when Voldemort killed Snape and then when he "killed Harry." My daughter in my belly did not like it either time. She kicked me so freaking hard. I couldn't help, but laugh even though they were some of the most dramatic parts!

I'm so sad it's over! Started reading the books with DD when she was in 4th grade, and now she is going into 8th and we just saw the last movie. Wah! I so enjoyed reading the books along with her and discussing them, and seeing the movies together as we read, and then fretting together when we caught up and had to wait for the movies.

I loved Parts 1 and 2 of Deathly Hallows. I think they were the best of all the moves, but then I thought the last book was the best too. I loved how they included Dobby in part one, and loved the artful treatment of the Deathly Hallows Story.

In this one, I loved the special effects and just how at heart the story was followed very well. It's been a while since I read the book now, which probably helps omissions and changes not bug me, but I loved it!

My favorite part of every movie though; Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman. They are just the best!!!!!

Just got back from the movie. Absolutely LOVED it! :thumbsup2

I agree with everyone who said that Harry needed to fix the phoenix wand before destroying the Elder wand. After he broke it and threw it away, I just kept thinking, "Um dude, you need a wand!"

Again...LOVED IT!!

i can't wait to go

have to wait until next week though :( i'm DYING to see it and hope i won't be too upset with all that they cut out

I believe that the underlying theme throughout the entire Harry Potter series is "The most powerful magic is love". In the books, Harry didn't kill Voldemort, Voldemort's inability to know or understand love did. Voldemort's spells didn't work on the people of Hogwarts in the book, because Harry had made a love protection for them all when he died for them. Even if Harry would really have been dead, there would have been an entire castle full of witch's and wizards with the same protection on them that would make it impossible for Voldemort to do harm to them, as it did infant Harry. The movie didn't really touch on this at all. In the previous movies it touched on the love thing a bit, but there was no big a ha moment in the last movie were you realize what the whole story is about this. It was just "Now your horcruxes are gone, now I can kill you". I guess I won't be happy until virtual reality is perfected and I can just live the books. :)

Completely agreed! I was flabbergasted by this exclusion, because to me, that speech is the heart of the series. The whole series touches on the idea that there's a fine line between good and evil, and it's love that makes the difference. It's definitely touched on in the other movies, and it's clearly evident throughout this film. For example, it wasn't a coincidence that Snape ends up being good (which is revealed in a way that highlights that he is capable of love) and that Draco's mom doesn't turn Harry in (because she loves her son), and there are so many other examples. I personally would have liked to see such the culmination of such a major theme.

I also was disappointed that Harry told Ron and Hermione that he was going to turn himself in. The chapter in the book where he makes this decision and decides that he must make it alone is my favorite HP chapter ever. It's just so courageous and so sad. (Btw, I found it rather odd in the movie that Ron didn't even hug Harry or say anything after hearing this news.) However, I was impressed with the Resurrection Stone scene. That's the part that had me crying.

I did like the movie and thought it was beautiful visually, but I just absolutely love this book, so I'm not sure it would be possible for anything to live up to how that book makes me feel. (And I know I shouldn't compare them, but I was surprised to see that many of the parts that made me personally love the book most were excluded from the movie.)

I forgot about Harry's wand so that really didn't bother me. I am so glad that Neville killed Nagini but they never really showed how he knew to kill the snake.

I loved the movie, I have read the books, my husband has not, he understood most of the movie. I thought Snapes memories could have been better, I know I am in the minority but I still don't like Snape. DH didn't really realize that was Lily's sister, if I mention the Dursleys he doesn't really remember them because they really haven't been featured that much in the movies.

I wished that we had seen Dumbledore explain how Harry had used the Deathly Hallows in the way they were meant to be used. That would have taken maybe another 2 minutes. I liked the way Harry killed Voldemort in the book but knew that would not be enough action for the movie. Last week I read the ending of the book, from Harry seeing Snapes memories. I didn't read about the battle at Hogworts so really didn't remember how it was done in the book.

I made the mistake of reading Half Blood Prince right before the movie and really didn't like the movie because it was so different. I watched the movie about a year later & enjoyed it a lot more because the book wasn't fresh in my mind.

I don't remember Luna yelling at Harry, I wish that she had hooked up with Neville in the book, thought that was a great addition in the movie.
