SPOILERS welcome!! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie - Part 2

I absolutely loved this movie! I think it's the best movie adaptation and "editing" of the books, and I can't wait to see it again.

Having said that, here's my nitpick: The actress playing Lily Potter as a child had brown eyes. I wouldn't be so bothered if it wasn't a key element of Snape's death scene in the book, and if there had not always been such a point that "Harry has his mother's green eyes". I still loved the movie, but that just took me out of Snape's memories a bit...

But Daniel Radcliff has blue eyes all through the movies--how hard is it to put in green contacts :lmao:

Actually they say "you have your mother's eyes" not "green eyes" so I that kind of gets away from the color for me. It could be the shape of the eyes, the eyelashes, etc. I like to think it just refers to the amount of love. She had enough love for him to give her life for him, and he had enough love to give his life for his friends. And they could see the love in thier eyes.

Teddy was in the final scene at King's Cross - he was the kid that was in front of Albus Severus Potter and then he was sitting next to him on the train. I just wished that Harry had spoken to him just so that people that hadn't read the books would realize it.[/COLOR]

That wasn't Teddy, that was James, Harry and Ginny's oldest son who is 13 and entering his 2nd year at Hogwarts. In the book Teddy is 19 years old, and has already graduated from Hogwarts, and is at King's Cross to see his girlfriend, Vitorie (sp?), who is Bill and Fleur's daughter, off as she leaves for her last year at Hogwarts. I did not see Teddy at all in the film's last scene.

Teddy would be much older than Albus. If it's 19 years later after the Battle of Hogwarts Teddy would have to be at least 19. He'd have been out of school a couple of years. The kid who entered the platform before Albus is his older brother James. I also think they should have left in some of the dialogue from the book where James teases Albus about Slytherin, which is how Albus got all worked up about it in the first place.

I gotta say I think Helen Bohnam Carter did and AMAZING job when she played Hermione pretending to be Beatrix. The manurisms were just so right on, right down to the puppy dog eyes.

I also loved Draco's parents dragging him over when Voldemort called people to step forward, then him sheepishly shuffling over. Tom Felton also really did an excellent job in this series.

I do wish they had shown more of the battles where people were killed, not just Harry running around and glimpses from a distance. I just remember being SO sad when Fred died in the book, but it was sort of "meh" in the movie; like we knew people had to die, here they are...moving on now. It just didn't pack the emotional punch it should have.

Here's what I think about Neville and the snake (movie version).

In the film, Harry doesn't tell Neville it's important to kill the snake, he tells Ron and Hermione. I don't think when Neville gives his speech he isn't focused on killing the snake. I think he's after Voldemort with the sword at that point. At the point that he kills the snake it isn't because he knows the snake has to go, it's because the snake is attacking Ron and Hermione. He might have also seen them trying to kill it.

I think it's just the way the screenwriters had of getting Ron and Hermione back into the story at the point where Harry leaves the school to meet Voldemort in the forest.

This is exactly what I think. It seems as though Ron and Hermione were on the floor at the base of the stairs, near the entrance to the Great Hall. At this point, Neville sees that they are shrinking away from Nagini so he goes and kills her.

My mom and I both thought this part was amazing!

They tried that, originally. The contacts hurt his eyes, so they stopped using them.

I saw Daniel a few weeks ago, he's got absolutely beautiful blue eyes. I'm glad they didn't try to make them green in the movies.

Here's a part that puzzled me that I'm hoping someone can explain - in the forrest after Harry has "died" Narissa goes over to Harry to see if he is dead. She whispers something like "Draco is he dead?" yet Draco was not there. Harry moves a bit (and she sees this) then tells Voldermont and crowd that Harry is dead. I don't remember this from the book. Besides not showing some of the deaths (Lumpkin, Tonks, Fred) this was one of the only thing that bothered me in the movie.

Voldermort Dies :)

Testing to see if this spoiler tag works here-just learned about it on another forum

edit=I guess this doesn't work here-on the other forum it puts a tag around spoilers and automatically hides the text so you have to click on it to see it. Maybe this could be an upgrade for this board some day.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I read the book :)

Not that we need to cover up anything in this thread, but if you ever need to hide a spoiler on this board, all you have to do is highlight what you typed, and turn the color to white. (There should be an "A" with a bar under it at the top of your reply box. Click on the little triangle to see the color choices.) Then people can't see it unless they highlight the "blank" area themselves.

...One thing that I truly, truly appreciate is how the "kids" were depicted as adults. I was so worried that they would have heavy make-up or whatnot to age them, but other than putting a fat suit on Ron (OK, he just looked a bit portly, but I don't think they call them portly suits, lol), they let the actors look like themselves. A little bit of scruff on Harry's chin, but they let the fans keep their memories of how they all looked. I think that, in particular, was really well done...

I actually wished they'd made them look just a little bit older! But, really, I was just glad they put that seen in at all, as ending after the battle was more dramatic, and sometimes movie-makers do go for "closing shot" over "closure".

In general, though, I loved the movie!

P.S. - Nobody in our theatre stayed after credits. Did we miss anything?

She asks Harry if Draco is dead, because if he is still alive, her first goal is to get to him as quickly as possible - even if that means lying to Voldemort by saying Harry is dead, so they will all go to the castle. I think it's supposed to show that Narcissa has learned her lesson, and is finally putting love before power.

It's in the book, Narcissa is sent over to Harry's body by Voldemort to check and see if Harry is truly dead. Narcissa realizes he isn't but knows that the only way she'll she Draco again is if she lies and says he is dead.

She is asking if Draco was dead. Harry had just flown out of the Room of Requirement with him so he knew that Draco was alive and well. When he moved he was saying "yes".

The book didn't linger on the deaths of Tonks and Lupin either. Just said something about Harry seeing them.

Ah - thanks! That makes sense. I was probably pretty still emotional and did not hear right. :wizard:

There were things different from the book and/or stuff that annoyed me:

Fred does not die on screen. Harry sees the Weasleys surrounding Fred's body, but Fred's actual death scene does not occur.

I find this in all of the movies, which I why I love the movies and the books as almost separate entities.

As far as this omission, I couldn't decide if I was mad about it, or happy, as that scene slayed me in the book! I had to stop reading for awhile because I was sobbing so hard, I couldn't see the words on the page.

I agree with parts of this but he wasn't really completely mortal, right?

The only other scene that I wished they had put in was when Harry & Drace acknowledge each other at King's Cross right before the train leaves. But at least we see him and the back of Draco Jr.

We have decided to go see it in IMAX3D tomorrow since my DH didn't see it with us at midnight - I can't wait to hear his comments since he's more of a purist than I am. I believe that they can't put everything into the films especially in a series that some fans have not read the books and not have all the films be 4 hours long.

As I've said before I  HP7 Part2 even with the things that were left out. I'm hoping that when the DVD is realized in a few months it will include all the deleted scenes. My DDs are already saying that if it comes out before Christmas that it will be on top their list :lmao: little do they know that they are already getting the book set as well as some things that I bought at WWoHP and the Harry Potter Exhibition and had shipped so they didn't see me carrying them :thumbsup2

That kid cannot be Teddy Lupin since it is 19 years later and the Teddy was already born, so he would be 20 not 11.

We just saw the movie in 2D. We saw it in this morning and it was about 1/2 full. I only saw teens and older people. Do kids read these books anymore?

I just started reading on the last page. I did not read the book since the day it came out, so my memory might be slightly off. It seemed to follow what I remember. The big difference was the breaking of the Elder wand. Personally I think that was a better ending since it could not every be used again. In theory the wand could be stolen from the crypt and chose another wizard.

The pensive works with memory stands not tears.

The forest seen happens in the book.

I attend Harry Potter week at my theatre where they showed 2 movies Monday - Thursday. It was a great experience.

anyways, about the elder wand. I don't believe that anyone would be able to simply take it and weild it - Voldermort learned this against Harry as the wand must be won to be effective. Since the wand belongs to Harry and if Harry does not use it (ie., in the crypt) then it can never be won from him so the wand is in essence, ineffective. but i can see why he broke it in the movie.

I took 6, 10/11-year-olds to see it this morning. Each of them had read all 7 books (some multiple times). We went out to lunch afterwards where they had a lot of the same conversation that is going on in this thread!!

Also, all showings were still sold out here, and at 1 hour before the show the line stretched down the block (theater opened 15 minutes before showing this morning). When we left the lines were just as thick for later showings. So consider yourself lucky on the crowds!

We saw the movie today & felt it was hands down the best of the series. Of course nothing could compare to the books, but I don't think there's much I'd even pick at in this movie.

Something occurred to me watching the epilogue. I'm actually disappointed in Jo Rowling not picking up something & putting a big red bow on it for me. We should have seen Dudley Dursley at the station, putting his son or daughter on the Hogwart's express. It would have honored Dudley's change of heart, possibly thrilled Petunia & definitely would have driven Vernon stark raving.

I wonder if she ever contemplated it. Of course it would have been confusing for movie-only fans as I don't think Snape's memories were enough for most to realize the sulking little girl was Petunia.

i don't think harry has to be using the wand to have it "won" from him.

Drako never used Dumbledores wand yet Harry won the Elder wand because Draco disarmed Dumbledore then used his own wand when Harry disarmed him (Draco) in the house
