Spoiled Rotten Ungrateful 16 year old Help!

I would suggest letting her know that not all kids can have a brand new car at that age. My uncle gave my sister and me his old Miata. It needed to be completely fixed because it hadn't been driven in a while. Well, my parents fixed the car up and my mom gave me her used car while she took the Miata. I was SOOO happy to even have a car. As long as it gets her from point A to point B, I think she should be happy. None of the kids in my class have brand new cars. The only ones who do are the ones who bought the cars themselves.

(point of view from an 18 year old)

I agree. I only just got my first job 3 months ago (I'm 17). My parents' birthday/Christmas present to me was a $1000 1994 Jeep. It is nice for its age, but it still needed a lot of work, and isn't as great as some other cars. I pay for part of my insurance (Mom pays the rest). Dad pays for $25 towards gas/week (which sometimes doesn't last the whole week) .. if I need more gas because I had dance rehersal and had to carpool 3 other girls all over, then I put in my own money. Between two competitive dance teams, there isn't a lot of time for a job every day, plus school, so my parents do help out b/c of my schedule.

I would say the same standard that applied to older sis will apply to her as well. If she doesn't want to get a job, no car. And even with a job, I really don't think she needs any car over $5,000, especially for her first car. My Jeep with 119,000 miles works fine for getting to where I need to go when Mom can't be taxi, with 2 other kids to drive around.

What will happen if you say no to your daughter? What exactly are you afraid of? :confused3 :confused3

My neighbor bought a new car two years ago, but drives an older truck, without air-conditioning, when her daughter is home from college. :confused3 Her daughter gets to drive in style while mom drives around without a/c in S. FL's heat in the summer months. :confused3 I don't get it. The woman is a doormat. :confused3

Seriously, it's simple. Just say, "No!". Then walk away. If she chooses to have a tantrum, then remove further privileges. She is pulling these stunts because she has gotten away with them in the past.

Good luck!
