Spin Off: Toppings for a Mashed Potato Bar

Thinking about a mashed potato bar has got me in the mood for loaded mashed potatoes.

What have you seen or what would you serve as toppings for a mashed potato bar?

I have never been to one but am starting to think about different types of mashed potatoes - skin on, traditional, sweet...

I would have Cheese, Sour Cream, Bacon Bits, Chopped Green Onions or Chives, and also White and Brown Gravy. And possibly some plain margarine or Butter.

For a mashed potato or baked potato bar, I would probably offer the following:

Cheese - liquid (melted) & shredded
Sour Cream
Butter
Bacon
Chives
Chopped Broccoli
Chili
Some kind of Spicy Peppers and/or Salsa

Cottage cheese
Sour cream
Shredded cheddar
Bacon bits
Diced cooked carrots
Garlic butter (and regular butter)

Yum. You could whip up some garlic butter with chives maybe?

You could also offer some dry herbs/spices like the chives, onion powder, parsley, pepper, red pepper flakes, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions! I love the idea of having different types of gravies and the fried onions and ranch.

I also did a little research on my own and saw this amazing mashed potato bar that this woman created. It is amazing! The pesto for the mashed potatoes sounds so good.

Have never seen a mashed potato bar, but have heard of them. In my mind, the mashed potatoes get cold & yucky though. lol

I don't load mashed potatoes. Never seen that offered in restaurants either. When I make mashed potatoes at home, we put milk, butter, minced garlic & some grated cheese in it on special occasions like holidays.

BUT, I do like to load BAKED potatoes. Butter, sour cream, bacon, cheese, scallions. The usual stuff.

On baked sweet potatoes, I like butter & cinnamon.
