we just got back this weekend and i could not get over the uncomfortable shoe gear some women wore to the parks!

the worst was this girl wearing a black skintight sweater (it was 85!), mini skirt, fishnet stockings and spiked black knee high boots! she walked around like this all day!! (you couldn't miss her!)
even the guys were making comments--"that's a real appropriate outfit for a theme park"

why would anyone do this to themselves??!!

You should check out Badshoe . Our own Zurg runs it. It's amazing what people will wear.

We saw a lady at EPCOT walking around in heels last December. I just wondered how in the world she could do that!!! I also wondered if she was REALLY comfortable. Oh, well, to each his own and maybe she is very used to being on her feet in heels all day!!!

I wore some 4 inch heels on our last trip, when DH and I were alone, no kids, when we had reservations for a nice meal, etc.

However, most days I was in my tennies.

I would not recommend heels unless you are very used to them.

I wear broken in shoes plus I buy a brand new 6-pack of new socks. Nice and cushy.

My SIL, though, wore some kind of strappy sandals and my brother was constantly helping her rewrap her bandaids.

Yea,I really hate those skin tight sweaters, mini skirts and spiked heels.:hyper:

We have a slide of DH's aunt and uncle in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at DL in July of 1957. He's wearing a grey suit with wingtips, and she is in a pale blue organdy dress w/ 3/4 sleeves (and the obligatory corset and crinoline slip, of course.) She is also wearing a hat with a half-veil, gloves and 3 inch spike-heeled pumps, and carrying a white leather Kelly bag.

The funniest part from today's perspective is that they don't look unusual; all the people in the background are dressed just the same way.

When I did Grad Nite at MK in the late 70's, we were required to wear dresses, hose, and dress shoes; I remember that I wore a white linen sundress with a bolero jacket, and white open-toe pumps with an ankle strap and 2-inch heels. The boys had to wear shirts with collars and long trousers. This wasn't imposed by the school, it was imposed by WDW.

Times sure have changed, haven't they?

Some women don't think. I remember our honeymoon in the Poconos, we went hiking to a waterfall. On our way back we passed a lady in spiked heels and jeans. Wonder how she did climbing over the rocks :) I was waiting to hear her turn her ankle!

I don't think she even thought to bring other shoes.

Don't you ever dress up (heels or dresses) when going to a nice dinner at Epcot? I was going to bring some along in May for those nights. Will I be the only one??

While I often get comments about dressing up or wearing heels, I say to each their own.

If people dont bug me about my choice of clothes or shoes, I promise to not comment on the out of control double strollers, cheerleaders, brazilian tour groups, line cutters, barefoot conscierge guests, parade encroachers, and the dysfunctional families I see at WDW. Did I miss anyone lol?

the worst 'bad shoe' I've seen was at AK. A little girl (cute as could be) dressed head to toe as Snow White including black shoes with a heel - no socks. The father was running and pulling her along. I would have guessed maybe she was dressed just for a picture, but I don't think Snow White is at AK ever.

::MickeyMo "Well hi there everybody"

The extravegant dressers always amaze me, as I tend to associate Disney with the kind of relaxed enjoyment that suggests clothing that is comfy - not showy :)

(Not to say that showy isn't nice sometimes, of course!)

Hi jenniferhouston2

I've worn a skirt and chunky low heel shoes for a dinner at Jiko (that's the sit down right?someday i'll keep them straight *g*). I was going to wear the same outfit after dinner to the Markeplace since we had a early dinner but with the rain and hubby inquiring if I was planning on changing or not I did end up changing out of the skirt though I think I left the shoes *g*

For dinner in the World Showcase I probably wouldn't think as much of a lady being dressed more because I tend to think of it as a different atmosphere then just a theme park at night. That area has a lot of nice place to eat and if the mood struck me I'd probably wear a shoe I normally wouldn't wear to the parks in the day. Course I would be coming directly from my hotel freshly changed into that outfit which is the kind of laid back trip DH and me have when together. Not like the commando trips I do with the girls on those trips the "nice" shoes stay home with the hubbies *g*

I have to say though I've seen my share of ladies dressed in high heels, strappy high heels and wonder how on earth they plan on making it thru the day. But perhaps their feet are just conditioned that way? I have an elderly relative who grew up and worked in a position that required her to wear heels daily. She has problems walking flat footed. But then again she's from a different era entirely. Dunno. I just usually wince for their poor feet and keep on going in my comfy sneakers *G*

Hope you have a lovely time at dressy dinner

You know I'm starting to live in fear that the Tag Fairy will tag me with "the chatty one" i do tend to ramble *g*

The only time I wore strappy high heeled shoes and was really "dressed up" was for our dinner at Victoria and Albert's. I felt like an idiot taking the boat from Wilderness Lodge to the MK and then the monorail to the GF. I'm sorry we didn't rent a car that trip.:teeth:

My kids and I play a game called "rate the shoe"...not quite as catchy as badshoe.com, but along the same lines. A typical conversation between my oldest daughter and myself would be something like "check-out the eights at 9 o'clock". "Eights? I'd give them a nine. They have 5-inch heels!" We have given out very few 10's so far, but the most memorable was the lady wearing the 5-inch heels in line in front of us at Epcot, with her rear-end hanging out of a short pair of hot-pants. The child with her called her "Nana", and when she turned around I realized she was old enough to be MY mama! The shoes were a nine, but paired with the outfit they scored a ten! My husband laughs at us, and my son still hasn't caught on!

Diane,

Thats what we would do...go straight from the CR to Epcot to dinner. Im with you heels all day would not be good.

Teresa,

You have had nothing to feel silly about. If my hubby takes me to V&A for a special dinner, I would wear anything to make him happy!!!! :earseek:

What a funny thread

Although I'd never wear heels to WDW, not even the chunky kind, I was tempted to wear cotton dresses or skirts, since that is what I mostly wear in the summer. However, after our very first trip many years ago, I realized that in order not to stand out in the Disney crowd, it was best to wear what the Romans wore! I bought several pair of coulottes and that's what I wear, with white socks and walking sneakers! Oh, and my husband bought his first ever pair of shorts for a trip to Disney. Now he wears them all the time! It's amazing how a vacation can change your thinking.

I am planning on bringing a couple of skirts and a nicer pair of dress sandals. We are having an anniversary dinner at the Yachtsman one night and will probably have at least one nice dinner at World Showcase. It is probably our last vacation as adults before starting a family, so I would like some dressy, more adult moments.

I'll probably end up on the website, but have no fear, I'll have well-pedicured toes. :)

I was just thinking of something, a few years back I attended a convention that wasn't at Disney but stayed at a Disney resort. The conference had a dressy night where I ended up wearing a rather sparkly long skirt and yes pretty high heels LOL boy did I get some looks that night and all I did was walk out and order a cab.

Oh well. It happened to be around Thanksgiving so in the end I had the last laugh. I have one of the best chrsitmas pictures of me since the tree was up in the lobby already and when I returned that night it was after midnight. A very sweet mousekeeping CM took a picture of me standing in the deserted lobby by the tree. One of my all time fave Disney pictures and memories.

*sniffle* I miss the Mouse! *pouts*

OK fancy shoes at V& A are fine.

In the parks - insanity.

Thanks for the plug TC.

They stopped showing it on Disney Channel but they use to show once a week or so a 30 minute show on "Vault Disney" of WDW and Disneyland when they first opened. It was amasing to look at how most people back then were dressed. Many times it would look as if people had just arrived straight from church. The men in suits and ties and the women and small girls all in dresses. Boy I miss those old shows but can't imagine dressing like that now....smjj
