Spam E-Mail

I have an email address I use for personal stuff and one I created just for signing up for sites and other things. I think of it as my spam email. It gets tons of spam but I really don't use it for anything other than signing up for sites and services.

This is what I do too. It helps so much.

There are several of those class action lawsuits that are legit. First, I look to see the email address of the sender and if the email actually contains enough specific information or it only talks in generalities. You can also do an online search to see if any such lawsuits are ongoing. As I recall there is one for FB and the email came from their company site, had enough specific information that it was clear it was real as well as it being talked about on their website. Generally, you will get the scraps leftover (maybe $5-$20) after the lawyers get paid.

that's what i do but a couple that have come through in the last week or so have no trace of validity-i suspect the link to a site where you enter personal information is a phishing mechanism (one of the few forms of snail mail i receive are valid class action post cards and they NEVER ask for personal informaion).

Just in case anyone's interested in helping out a military guy, I just got this one:

I am in the military unit here in Niger, I have some amount of funds that I want to move out of the country. I need a good partner, who I can trust. It is risk-free and legal. Reply to this email: (blahblah@blah.com).
Regards,
Robert C Adriano

I'm sure it's real, and I'd do it myself, but I'm not trustworthy... ;)

When I first began internetting back in the days of AOL 6.0, I created a throwaway email over at Hotmail for use in signing up to forums and message boards and other places where you absolutely have to put in an email address. It works like a charm and collects all of the junk when these places inevitably sell my info. My real email address is clean as a whistle except for family, friends, and a few trusted companies.
I do this as well. AOL for anticipated junk. Gmail for the rest

As of late I get the "thank you for you Pay Pal payment to our (non named) company in the amount of $632.78." For a detailed summary of your charges, click here. :rolleyes2

And UPS has a scheduled delivery for your package with no tracking number but some weird link to track the shipment. Yeah, that looks legit. 😒
