As it is with other airlines, WiFi is provided on many flights, but it is not FREE. You have to create an account before you travel with a third party provider. If you really have to stay connected for the few hours you are in the air, go for it.
The last update on the Southwest blog said they are going to continue to test pricing thru 2009 and roll-out fleet-wide in 2010. So, I think you happen to luck into a wi-fi flight and you could be charged anything between $2 and $12 to connect... in an attempt to assess how much people are actually willing to pay for it.
