Southwest open thru March 9th

I am so nervous! these fares are SO high! For us in late january, the cost is 145 each way! that's over 300 pp when you pay all fees etc.... anyone think prices will drop some? advice?

I think prices for non peak times will drop in Jan. But that's also the same logic I'm using to think that prices in November will drop! So only time will tell if I'm right! Depending on how late in Jan and your flexibility of days will determine how much better you'll do, price wise. Weekend flights are always tougher to find the low ones, and I'm not sure how much Super bowl will effect it.

Meanwhile, I was able to CHANGE the RR tickets I originally booked, which were for late Sunday 2/18, and got 3PM on Sat 2/17 - Exactly the flight I wanted. Now to start figuring out the car rental...

If I book SW now, and the rate drops, will they give me a credit (to use toward summer  ) or no?? I only usually fly in the summer, but this is first trip in February. I have heard of people calling and getting the cheaper rate, but not sure how common it is (or how it works). Any info/advice?? TIA :wave2:

Okay guys....those of you that are more familier with SW than I...I'm waiting on Jan 13-16, out of PVD to Tampa. No way am I paying close to $265 pp right now. So....what are the chances either a Ding will come out in Dec for this time frame or that the fares will drop? I don't think it's a particularly busy time for travel, so is there hope??

If you book now and the rates go down ,with SWA you rebook and get a credit, you have one year from the original reservation to use the credit.

I purchased 3 tickets from Albany to Orlando.

2/16- Leave Albany 7:20 pm....arrive around 10:15 pm
2/25- Leave Orlando 11:20 am ...arrive around 2:10 pm

It is a direct flight but cost over $400 per ticket...OUCH!!!!

Although it is still much cheaper than the other airlines and the times meet our needs. I checked this evening and they are not selling any more tickets back to Albany on the 25th.

Let's hope they open up some cheaper tickets :wizard:

Presidents week from Albany to Fort Lauderdale is sold out for our cruise, after just a few hours of bookings. Does anyone know if more fares will open up or is thsi usually final?

Hi All,

For School Vacation week prices will not go down they will just get sold out. If you want to go then you need to book the minute the fares come out. Liz

I agree that Feb break options will continue to fill up from ALB and if you don't get tickets now you won't get any with S-West. I also don't think the prices will come down. We had the same thing happen last April when we paid $350pp ALB-MCO to go on our cruise. So...........I was watching Thurs when they came out and all of the lower fares were blocked. We opted for Wed 2/14 the last n-stop out and Wed the 21st the first n-stop in the am. Kids will miss 2 days leading into the vacation week but we are paying $238 not $419. I don't holding my breath on any dings or lower fares. Not too bad for me as I used a RR award and $380 in ticketless travel for 4 of us bu my sister had to buy 5 tickets.

To get a better deal try extending your trip one day on one side or the other.

I just added an extra day to get $79 pp instead of paying $196 pp. There are five of us going down, but are returning on different days. So that saved me about $116 per person for a total of $580. More than enough to pay for an extra nights lodging at SoG! :cool1:

I was able to get a return for 3 at $79 per, but the other two are $137. Still not bad. We will now be leaving on Feb 14 instead of Feb 15. Happy Valentine's day. So my total cost is a little over $1000 for five round trip. If I can get some DINGS great! But if not, I am okay. :sunny:

Darn, it looks like I found this out two days late. Well, that'll teach me to pay attention to work, eh? ;)
Fortunately, we already have our tix for Prez week, on JetBlue, mostly using FF miles (otherwise pretty pricy). Our friends who are joining us for the beginning of the week were holding out for Southwest, and I alerted them today. Since they are flying peak days (Sat 2/17 out, Sun 2/25 back) they're looking at about $500 per person PVD-MCO returning PBI-PVD. Not great, but better than most fares out there.

Here's hoping we don;t get hit with a big snowstorm that week which messes everything up!

Thanks for all your help. Fortunately I'v ebee working nights on call and last night about 5AM I was able to get the deaprture half of my flights booked through SW. It was $241 one-way, whichis high but better than the other carriers. Then I booked the return using some continental miles to get that cost down a little- but still outrageuos for a one-way.

A question: How did some of you know the fares were coming out Thursday? DING? I checked a 9 AM Thursday and schedule was onlyythrough January. By the time I got home from work, it was full for my dates.

According to the FAQ for SW on Flyertalk SW usually opens up the new schedule on Thursday mornings at 10am central when they do open it up. So if you checked at 9am eastern you missed it by a few hours. All the signs were there for this past Thursday being the day...Sales thru the end of the past schedule... the days left to book being in the right range.

I have found they often don't open up the cheaper flights around a holiday right away. If the plane doesn't book up at the lower fare then they start lowering their fares. Last March I booked immediately because I needed seats for 8 on the same flight. Originally it cost me $1800. By watching the flights I was eventually able to lower the price to $1000 but then I had credits for about $800, not refunds. So I used that for my June trip for 4, October trip for one, an emergency trip for family illness, and I still have $120 in credit.
