Southwest is giving 50,000 points again

does anyone know how close together they will approve you for? I just closed the card in december and would like to apply again for the points-do you think they would approve me?

Card came today, gave it to my son to fill up his gas tank.. Now I'll wait for Southwest fares to go down a bit & book my FREE tickets! :)

I booked with points then when it went down in points i changed flights for free to (the same flights) if that makes any sense... anyway it gave me 10,000 points back because of the reduced flight point cost.

Wow would like to know too... once the points are in your acct...and you paid the fee...if you cancel the card do you keep points they can't take back...also they don't expire right...I got them to use in Feb March this year and now we are driving but I can use some in Oct/Nov right? :goodvibes

They would probably offer to re-open the account with no bonus points. Most credit card companies make you wait at least 12 months before you can re-apply for a card that has been closed. It really does depend on the company butI know that Chase can be pretty strict.

The worst thing that could happen is that you have a hard pull on your credit report and they still say no. So if the hard pull does not scare you off, then you have nothing to lose by trying.

On average, how long did it take for your card to show up after you received the email saying it was on its way?

O...M...G....:woohoo: I didn't know there so many options for redeeming!!!!

Those options are the only reason I signed up. I have a ton of Rapid Reward points that I could otherwise use only for flights, and since I'm already flying on average three out of every four weeks (on business) I don't really need them for flights. Using my points for hotels is a nice option.

Good question!

Can anyone tell me if fares are up right now? Don't get me wrong I still think itis a great deal but for me to get from IND to Orlando is is over 16,000 pts round trip, I am seeing posters who say they are going for closer to 6000 oneway or 12000 round trip when the thread was started in NOv. So if i wait to book can I get a better deal? I am pretty flexible on my time frames for a trip, anyday is a good day to vacation in the World or anywhere else IMO! especially if it is warm!

For PIT to MCO fares for Sept are always good....DH and I have 103,000 points. Fares have been 6000 points each way for Sept for a long time.....I can book in 4 weeks!!!! iF fares stay 6000 points each way, we get 17 free one way flights.

I just signed up yesterday and my husband will be signing up as well. If we book the Southwest sale fares to the place we go most frequently (to take our daughter to visit her grandparents) the points price hovers around 3500 each way. That means our 100000 points could equate to 14 round trips!

Thanks to the Dis for prodding me into signing up!!

I was debating on driving again for our October trip. I decided to sign up for the Southwest card and received instant approval. Like SteelerCountry we are excited that the PIT/MCO fare is usually 6,000 points.

My fiance applied and was approved :cool1:
This has made the difference between us possibly having to put off our trip for September to maybe November/December. My DD is joining us on our honeymoon and our airfare was going to cost almost 1500 :scared1: At least now we get two tickets taken care of. :thumbsup2:goodvibes

i closed my sw visa in nov or dec. applied for the new one and just got i.
what's strange is they lowered my limit on my chase marriott to do this even though my total limits are lower since I cancelled that card

So it's $99 not $69 fee??

There are 2 different levels of the card, here's the difference:

lower level card is $69 annual fee, you get 3000 reward points which is $50 towards a ticket so you end up behind $19 a year

upper level card is $99 annual fee, you get 6000 reward points which is $100 towards a ticket so you end up ahead $1 a year

HTH!

Ohhh, I'm going to have to check this out. DH & I were just talking about this very thing last week. We have the Disney Visa card by Chase. Got it back in August, I think, when you could get a $200 Disney gift card (not visa, just disney) after your first purchase. So I got it. We since have accumulated a whole 9 points on the card. Sounds great till you realize you have spent $900 to get a measly $9 in Disney dollars. :sad2: Sooo, my husband was tossing around looking at a card that could get us airline miles, since driving from Michigan with 2 young children is not something we really WANT to do but would have to do unless flights really go down in price within the next year. If we could get our flights for free or almost free (including not having to pay for luggage) we might just be able to go this year after all!!!

Thank you so much for the head's up!
