South Beach Dieters......... Unite

I have the South Beach Diet Good Fats/Good Carbs Guide: The Complete and Easy Reference for All Your Favorite Foods. Maybe this is what you are talking about. It is a quick reference guide of good and bad carbs. In it he says which foods are acceptable and which you should avoid. It is a handy guide to have especially if you are on the go.

Hey Lisa and Sheree! Just wanted to wish you a great vacation. Sheree, congrats on your masters. Have lots of fun and wear lots of sunblock. Don't forget to check out the new menu options for SB dieters. I am anxious to hear about them. Keep on the program girls, you're doing great!

Say hi to Mickey for me.

Melissa- Thanks. I am so ready to go. This is a early celebration. I am taking my last class right now. As a matter of fact, I'm taking a small break from finishing my mid-term:o I need a mental break. I then can go to Disney World with that off my mind

Lori- anyway I can help just let me know. The companion guide is really helpful. Good luck on your weight loss efforts

:wave2: SBDieters. Well I'm off. I leave in matter of hours, and Lisa is gone by now I'm sure. Keep up the good work everybody and pray that I stay on plan :teeth: I sure don't want any of that weight back on me

Have a great trip, Sheree and Lisa!!

Congrats to all of you dropping those pounds!!:teeth: Me, I have not budged since entering Phase 2. I was going to try to go back to Phase 1 for a while but didn't. Maybe that is what I need to do, I don't know.

I am trying to stay positive as I know this Phase is much slower for progress, but I wanna lose!!! :Pinkbounc

Have a great afternoon, all!

Cinderellafifi- I know how you feel. I am starting week 6, and the scale has not moved this past week. I'm holding at 10, but wish a few more pounds would slip off. I'm sticking to it, though, since I know it works. I just need to be a little more patient. :goodvibes

Hello. I'm so glad I found this thread. I'm starting the South Beach diet tomorrow and I'm so excited. I have a menu planned and have done all the shopping and I'm ready to get going. I have 30 lbs to lose and I plan to keep it off. I already work out at Curves each week so hopefully the combination will really work. Anyway, I plan on going back to the beginning of the thread and reading all the posts. See you on the beach.

We went out with friends last night and I blew it! We were at an Asisan restaurant, so I ordered shrimp with fresh mushrooms. I ignored the rice, but wound up sampling some really rich seafood curry and the really carb loaded sesame chicken. When we got home, I ate most of a bowl of nuts. I'm so irked with myself because Phase 2 has really slowed my weight loss and I have tried to be so careful this week. Now I'm dreading my Tuesday Tops weigh-in. Sigh.

It happens. Let it go. Phase 2 is supposed to slow the weight loss to between 1 and 2 pounds per week. Some weeks you may not lose at all, and if you are working out, you may even gain a pound or two. If one's weight loss continued as it did in phase 1, it would be unhealthy.

My weight loss slowed to a crawl in phase 2, and I even went into a three week stall where the scale never moved. I continued to work out though, and started changing my physique, subtracting the fat and adding lean muscle tissue. Compare a pound of fat to a pound of muscle, and you will see that the muscle takes up a lot less space.

It is hard to convince oneself (and I have trouble with it myself sometimes) but tell yourself "it isn't about the scale." If everything fits better, and you feel better, and you look better, why worry about the pounds.

Hope this helps.

I was bad yesterday, too. I have been so good for so long and then we went to the movies. I got popcorn, with the grease that passes for butter. I have probably had one cheat day every 2 weeks and it hasn't really effected my loss. It keeps me going. However, loss is slower in phase 2 so I am going to start upping my excercise program. That really seems to help. And inch loss is even better than pound loss, to me. Don't lose heart, keep it up. The Beach works great and you feel so good doing it. I am trying for 5 more lbs before my trip. I really only need 3 more, but the scale fluxes on me every few days. I think my period makes me weigh more.

Best wishes to everyone this week. Let's do Lisa and Sheree proud, and have lots of good news for when they get back from WDW.

This is my second day on the Beach. I had the book, but I gave it to someone, so I'm more or less winging it for now.

I just have this really bad headache! The only thing I miss is fruit. But, I know I'll have that back in a few weeks, so no big deal. I say that now, but I REALLY miss it!! I can do without everything else, I guess. My mid-afternoon Swedish Fish snack turned into peanuts. My oatmeal in the am turned into eggs and bacon - amazing that it fills me up until lunch. The headache made me sick to my stomach, so I ate some cheese and cucumbers for lunch.

I had a Diet Coke today in an effort to rid myself of the headache. It workded better than anything else, so it was worth it.

I'm not weighing myself. I'm almost 6 feet tall, so I can't expect to weigh 120 pounds! I'm going by inches and how my clothes fit. I'll measure next Tuesday and see how it goes!

Allyand Jack- I also experienced a headache the first few days. I think it was from the caffeine and sugar withdrawal. After that, I was fine.

Thanks for all of the sage advice and support! I weighed in five pounds lighter at my Tops meeting tonight. Whew!

Yep - going through carb withdrawl is, quite literally, a pain. When I went through it I knocked back the headache with LOTS of water and a Diet Pepsi. I am one of the lucky ones who is not affected by caffiene causing cravings.

You have a great attitude about the weight loss so I predict you will do very well with South Beach. :sunny:

OUTSTANDING!!!! Does that earn you a new clippie?:bounce:

Five pounds is fantastic!!!! You should be very proud of yourself:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Leanne - I'm like you and stuck between 10 and 13 pounds off (seems to fluctuate daily). This is a stressful week for me and my DD's 8th birthday parties (one for family, one for her friends) are both this weekend. I'll do my best and then go for another week or two of Phase I beginning on Monday.

Dh and I just started last Tuesday. The doctor told me to loose weight about 2 years ago at about 5'7" 174 lbs. I lost about 10 pounds with exercise and cutting out most snacks on or more or less regular basis-- but I've been stuck at 165 for a year no matter what I do.

I don't have a goal weight-- the doctor wants me about 155 I think. I want the fat around my middle gone. You know-- the stuff that makes you look like you're wearing an inflatable pool inner tube over your hips.

I have a question: We're on Phase I, but we're not following the schedule daily. We're using the recipes, but not necessarily on the "right" day. Has anyone else done this? Will it slow weight loss. Dh is doing great-- looks visibly thinner. Me-- NOT. I was never a big bread, rice and pasta eater though.

Haven't had time to read the whole thread yet-- but I will. Any recipes would be great.

Thanks,
Julie

One of the great things about South Beach is the flexability built in to the eating plan. You don't have to follow the menu plan as outlined in the book. If it says to eat, for example, fish on Monday and you don't like fish (or the recipe does not appeal to you), use the menu from another day, or use the "Foods to enjoy, foods to avoid" list in the book.

Hello all!

I am new to this board - I usually post on the cruise board - Glad there is a South Beach thread on this board!

I have recently started SB due to my doctor's advice to help balance my sugar and hormone levels - I could lose about 10lbs though -

My question - hopefully someone can answer - I am on day 6 of phase 1 - I am lightheaded, tired, lethargic, etc - I don't have the energy to even walk my dog -

Problem - I am use to working out 4-5 times a week - Since starting the SB, I have not been able to work out at all (no energy)

Do you think it would be OK for me to do 1 week of Phase 1 then start (slowly) on Phase 2?

They don't mention anything about this in the book - I have tried several times to email the SB web-site and I get no reply -

Anyone else experience this or have a solution for me?

Thanks!

Karen
