sorry- yet another points question about reservations

I was up last night thinking still about buying into dvc-and I seriously want to- but trying to think very clearly about the home resort choice.

SO- what keeps people from being able to make reservations at a resort that they technically do not have enough points for at the 11 month reservation window? For example- if I buy 50 points at BLT and 50 points at AK- can I make a reservation at BLT that uses up all of my 100 points ( BLT and AK combined) for that UY at the 11 month window ? ( no banking/borrowing)

I am understanding that you do not have to have all the points readily available when you make your booking- just when you arrive for your reservation, yes?

So I am just wondering if there is something in place that stops people from being able to book 11 months out at a resort ( in my example BLT or AK) when you have points at both- but using one to complete the other's reservation at the 11 month reservation window?( Say reserving in Jan for a November stay) Or would you have to make a reservation for the 50 points at one and book again at the 7 month window using the other one's points to complete the stay?

I know a bit confusing in my wording- but hoping someone can help me understand this as it does make a difference if we buy into 1 or 2 "home" resorts.

you need BLT pts to book BLT at 11 months out (and the same for AKV pts at AKV).

if you own 1000 SSR pts and add-on 50 pts at BLT, only pts from your BLT contract can book BLT at 11 months out. SSR pts can be used at BLT at 7 months out.

At the 11 month mark you can book using 50 pts at either BLT or AK. But when you combine to make a reservation you can at the 7 month mark. You can not use BLT point to book AK at 11 months.

Correct....points would need to be there to cover the reservation.

thanks yet again- now i think we just need to agree to a home resort, when we would like our UY date to be , how many points and of course- the direct vs. resale...lol
