Something About Nothing............ #14

Bought my first two turkey breasts of holiday season. Looking to grab one or two more tomorrow at different store

Refuse to go thru last minute search for them as last year

Getting nervous re a nice sized ham. They have plenty of the prepackaged slices mac referenced but i need a biggin as family likes their leftovers

Can`t beat turkey at Christmas......

We`ll have a crown for when we come back from Scotland, will do us a couple of days then hopefully a fresh one for New Years....not the usual NY dinner in the UK, but we do love our turkey!

Yes, you don`t want to be rushing around last minute. We noticed the town was starting to get busy for the time of year, between now and Christmas it`s only going to get busier.

Oh it’s on our table then too. I’m focusing on thanksgiving. Hate to say it, all tends to run together for me lol

I was admonished by someone on here many years ago for saying Turkey is for Christmas, I was "educated" that it wasn`t the case in America.....I knew there were folks that enjoyed turkey at Christmas too in the States!!!

A good Thursday morning from a very wet UK. Heavy rain forecast all day for us, due in about an hour. Going to be a wet one and low 50`s.

So, once shopping is done I think we`ll hibernate the rest of the day. We have three parcels due to be delivered either today or tomorrow so might be nice to be in for them. I think there may be some baking this afternoon on the agenda. Tom is going to do all the floors, wooden or otherwise so we`ll maybe do some housework too. Going to be another quiet day I think by the sounds of our exciting chores to do 🙃

Roast chicken legs tonight, coated in honey, soy sauce and mustard with lots of garlic and chives too, mustard mash and some roast carrots, light sauce to go with it, lunch will be shrimp sandwiches and making French Toast for breakfast, my new favourite for now!

I always wait for Tom to get up before having breakfast together, but I`m starving this morning, might nudge him up soon. He loves a sleep in though whereas I`m the opposite, after a lifetime of getting up so early, it`s hard to change.

First day of the British Legion Poppy appeal in the UK today, we have a ceramic poppy we wear with pride every year but always buy the paper ones they sell too, amazing charity to support our retired and active Armed Forces ❤️

Have a wonderful Thursday

Good morning, Schumi. Hope not too much of a soaking rain day for you. Always delicious sounding meals. When it’s cooler out, I tend to bake more.

Like Keisha, we usually do turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then beef roast or ham for New Years.

Ah that Thirsty Thursday is upon us. Quick enough commute, but oddly, more traffic than I usually see. I tend to leave a little later, as not much traffic until even later than that. And there always now seems to be a few more cars then when I do that.

And visitors to office this week, means my favorite parking spot has been blocked for them. No matter, still get a close spot, as the five cars coming in with me, only I turned to go to my office parking lot. We have around 10 buildings where I am. And what a very dark outside and quiet office I have had. Tea from that bottled water.

Yep, was thirsty this morning. I bring breakfast and lunch with me. We have two refrigerators and five microwaves in our floor’s break room. Hence, nuked breakfast and lunch in the one refrigerator. Made two scrambled eggs, to warm up, then added cheese and already cooked bacon, that I don’t need heated up, put on a bagel I toasted in the toaster we also have. Easy enough. Had a little bit of steak leftover last night, so made a salad with beef chunks in it. Will keep me full enough until I get home. And maybe some candy will be brought in to share. Though that may be next week. Many bring in candy starting the day after Halloween.

So hope all have most Terrific Thirsty Thursday. Yay, means tomorrow is pay day, and my shortest of all week day routine days, with a twice as long lunch. Glad it’s still going to be either a shortest weekday routine day or lazy Friday starting next year.

Ooh time for more tea, and back to screen viewing. Soon to have a nice, warmer day. No jacket on me. 50 out, with it being 78 degrees by the time I leave. Should warm up quick, as should be 70 degrees by the time I go on my lunchtime walk. Liking this taste of Summer weather the last few days of October. But like Keisha, will pay for it with much cooler weather next week.

Had no idea we talked cooking here😊 Half the reason we go to parks is the food.
Our holidays are turkey and ham for Thanksgiving for about 30 family and friends. Chocolate fondue goes out at 10am and we nosh til dinner.
Christmas we go another way . BYOB or bring your own beef. We grill out all day for anyone without family or looking to escape family.

NYE is usually in a park.
Anyone do any other specialty meals for other holidays?

Welcome along drenalin`junkie......well, some of us cook here........::yes::

Thanksgiving sound good at your place, turkey and ham are our Christmas/Boxing Day dishes....when we don`t go to Scotland we always had a Boxing Day Bash with everyone coming to our home and I get moaned at because last few years we haven`t done it. Nothing beats getting a load of friends together celebrating.

If we were in Scotland, New Years Day is traditionally a puff pastry Steak Pie.....soaks up any alcohol from NYE!! But, we tend to stick to another turkey if we can get fresh.

Yep, we enjoy food in Florida too. Have you any trips planned coming up??

No parcels yet, seems two are now coming tomorrow and the other not till next week! Glad I`m in no rush for them. Two are Christmas gifts and the other is my new coat.

Baking ongoing, just some simple butterscotch cookies and a lemon bar cake. And it`s still raining, pretty miserable out there, but cosy in here....so much so my lovely husband is snoozing on the sofa by the window, even my rattling about with baking trays is not disturbing him!! Bless him.

Will pop the kettle on for tea, that usually wakens him.....and cookies are ready to eat.

Quick hello. I’m already late for work, so what’s a few more minutes.

I woke up to the sound of buzzing. Dh said it was coming from the doorbell and left me to deal with it because he was running late (through nobody’s fault but his own). I called the electrician who had installed the doorbell and he told me how to disable it until he could come by to fix it.

November when we welcomed older one on Election Day. The only time I did not vote.
B was due 2 days after election day. I oped to vote by absentee ballot. She ended up being born a week after election day.

I hand out full size ones,
Same here. We don’t get many children in my neighborhood so I figure we should give out the good stuff.

Isn`t it lovely when our husbands cook for us!!!
Sigh. I wouldn’t know about that. Dh is inept in the kitchen. I’m not sure how he survived when he was single.

Looking at this, I think I might need therapy
If it is something you actually enjoy then it can be therapeutic.

I was admonished by someone on here many years ago for saying Turkey is for Christmas, I was "educated" that it wasn`t the case in America.
We almost always have turkey on Christmas. We often have both turkey and ham. I wonder what that person thinks is a proper “American” Christmas dinner.

Had no idea we talked cooking here
Welcome. Yes, we discuss food almost on a daily basis.

I need to get to work. I did tell my boss I would be a little late.

I think the person was trying to make me look stupid to be honest, I knew enough Americans and their choices at that point but I was still told I was wrong and turkey was only for Thanksgiving in the US. Bet she feels a fool now.

I think some men are either gifted in the kitchen or not.....Tom looked after his father for several years so learned quickly how to cook properly, when I met he him was already an accomplished person around the kitchen and housekeeping too!! I landed lucky lol..... thank goodness he is as tidy as I am too!!! Although the only thing he won`t do is windows....says he leaves them streaky, so I happily do the insides and window cleaner does the outsides, fair balance as he does a lot around the house housework wise.

How is your driveway? Hope you`re happy with it.

:wave2: Geeze....it's been a minute lol

I popped in - then I blinked and it was Wednesday!

It's now Thursday....obviously I started a post yesterday - and got busy/side tracked and of course had lots of shiny squirrel syndrome. I've now got another little mess on my desk and trying to work on one invoice that I know is paid...but somehow when we were in Vegas with someone else doing my job...ugh. Now to fix the mess. It's hard as we don't correct it directly here at the branch - it's all done at head office. I catch wayyyyyyyyyy too many of their mistakes :rolleyes2 :sad2:

And yes...it's cold and snowy here. The snow arrived Sunday morning. It's been unusually cold - about 15-20F. The forecast is calling for more normal temps for the weekend and next week - and it can't come fast enough lol. I am already dreaming of where we are going for a warm winter holiday X2 hopefully.

Turkey turned out amazing!!!! I used the last of it last night making a turkey cobbler/pot pie type casserole. Not sure what is on the menu for tonight yet. I still have this meal in a bag type thing I bought last week that I bought at Costco last week that needs to be cooked. I think that will be on the menu tonight.

A fine request. Getting nervous have only seen tiny & doubled in price breasts here thus far
It is a family favorite here. We usually get a fresh one. We are blessed to live in an area where there are a few memonite colonies and they will sell their game to the local butchers and small businesses. Honestly - they are the best ones I have ever cooked - but they are $$$. The grocery stores ran out here in the city. So I'll be getting mine earlier too...or buying an extra one to either give or sell to someone at xmas.
This has been a good lazy weekend. Dh spent lost of yesterday watching football. I kept falling asleep. I just couldn’t seem to stay awake. Today we took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. These pictures don’t do it justice.
Those were beautiful pictures! I seen Willy B didn't have as great a finish as we wanted him to have. We are still rooting for him!!!!! I'm just glad Kyle is in until the end!
Wow this month has flown by.
Yes it has. I'm still saying September :sad1: and next week is November!!!!
Isn`t it lovely when our husbands cook for us!!! Tom is determined to cook for us once at least once every couple of weeks now he is back into the habit....I could get used to this!! He is a very good cook I have to say.
My dh is an amazing cook as well. He doesn't do it nearly often enough.
Didn`t get my coat, they didn`t even have it in the store, so when I came home I ordered it online, should be here in a day or so. Might be a little early but looked for an outfit for Christmas day, didn`t see much but will find something I`m sure.
I HATE when that happens! I would rather go to the store, than order it, and have it NOT fit properly or like it.
NYE is usually in a park.
Anyone do any other specialty meals for other holidays?
We are a turkey family for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Any other celebrations/holidays will be a steak/roast of some sort.

Well, I should go...it's almost lunchtime!
Have a great day everyone!

We're doing a weekend on Nov 4/5.
We try to eat in most nights because we both are pretty good in a kitchen. DW is NY Italian and crushes that. I traveled a lot when younger and grew up in a very multicultural family so I eat just about everything.
Tamale pie tonight with a mole sauce that's been 6 years in the making so far. Just keep adding to the base regularly.
I'm easy to find in the parks as my profile pic shows.
60 yr old with countless bubbles nearby.
Holidays with friends and family are truly a blessing after traveling so much.

welcome to your new home here with us!

I just read what everyone sets up for holiday meals.
It’s rare I cook a full holiday meal for Mr Mac and myself.

No relatives near us so we just wing it for dinners we do.

Grilled cheese sandwiches work well for Mr Mac

Mr and Mrs Mac'n'cheese😊
Definitely one of my guilty pleasures from basic to croq monsieur and BLTs.

Good evening. Just finished my latest stitching project. This one is a dragon that I will be giving to B. Next up will be a Christmas gift for a friend. I seem to have become a little addicted to cross stitching.

How is your driveway? Hope you`re happy with it.
It looks good, but we can’t park on it for a few more days. We can’t fit all 3 cars on the street in front of our house, but our nice next door neighbors are letting us park one car in front of theirs.

And yes...it's cold and snowy here.
I can’t even begin to think of snow right now. We are having some unusual warm weather. It’s supposed to be in the 80s this weekend.

I seen Willy B didn't have as great a finish as we wanted him to have. We are still rooting for him!!!!!
I keep hoping for one more win for him. He was at our football game last week. Someone said he
was in the parking lot talking to the tailgaters. I wish I had known.

That sounds really good.

We are very fortunate in that we have friends who do most of the heavy cooking. We provide desserts, drinks, and sometimes side dishes.

It’s past midnight now so I should go to sleep.

U used to hate comeing back to work in the good old days after a three week break and found myself going back over all the errors my cover had made.....ironic thing was she always thought she should be doing my job when in reality she was not capable, but no one else was prepared to put in the effort the job needed. Hope you managed to get it all sorted.

No.....not snow.....too soon!!!

I love chicken pot pie. It wasn`t till we started visiting America I made it with a biscuit style topping instead of pastry, everyone loved it. Haven`t made one for a while, but it`s getting to be the season for dishes like that.

I do prefer shopping but I also quite like ordering a load of things and be able to try them on at home, I am not fond of changing rooms, those mirrors are odd!!

There are worse things to be addicted to for sure. I`m sure the gifts are appreciated.

Glad you`re happy with the driveway, hope it looks good too. We have a very long driveway so it was quite a job to be done but worth it, took them a couple of weeks to finish so yes, it was an inconvenience but we were glad we did it.

That`s a good balance that you bring desserts and drinks, when someone goes tot he trouble of hosting it`s always nice to make a donation.

Hope you slept well.

Well, looks like no rain this morning but we have it forecast mostly every day for the forseeable days ahead and long term doesn`t look much better. Next week looks dreadful, so our Bonfire night will be a washout, not bothered too much about that as I loathe the whole event. Dogs and veterans are terrified with the banging that goes for many nights before the actual 5th Nov. Horrible. Where we live we aren`t too disturbed, but you can hear them and see them in the distance.

But, today not much going on, hoping for my other two parcels and will get them wrapped up as I already have wrapping paper, bags and boxes up in the office in preparation so I`m not doing everything last minute. I don`t want to be coming back in December and have to start christmas shopping for everyone, so doing as much as I can now. As always what to get my mum for gifts.....an 88 year old woman who tells us she doesn`t want anything, doesn`t need anything, she reads a lot so generally has read every book printed by now!!

French Toast for breakfast, nothing fancy to go with it this morning, but going to do pancakes tomorrow with bacon and maple syrup haven`t made pancakes for a while, lunch will a spicy shrimp and some salad in a wrap and dinner tonight is pork fillet, will roast it quickly in spicy honey, balsamic mustard sauce and mini roast potatoes with whatever veg I pick up at the farm store today, and going to make some ice cream later, Tom said he`d like some salted caramel, think I need to buy cream too for that.

But, Friday feeling.....even ladies of leisure love that Friday feeling!!

Ah that Fabulous Friday feeling. Still screen viewing after that awful traffic out of the city last late afternoon. Sigh. Not looking forward to returning to more days a week doing that.

But yay, warm overnight, and house while felt a bit cool after it turned down after our morning getting ready after wake up time. But still enjoying that warmer weather. Little one wanted to dash out last night, as was making dinner and wanted some ingredients we didn’t have. I wore pants, she wore shorts. One of us was feeling way too warm. Hence, shorts worn today and will be doing the same in our 82 degree high weather on Saturday. But then pants return on rainy chance Sunday, and most likely not many more chances for shorts as we get that ever closer to the Winter season.

Most Fabulous Friday to all, and a most Wonderful Weekend.

Alarm off and tea from a tea kettle’s water. Woot! Alarm off. Woot! Friday. Yep. Friday! ::yes::

And to think, we are less than two months away from Christmas. :santa:

Who`d a thought you could get so much rain in a few weeks....and more to come ☔

However, my coat arrived and it`s perfect, beautiful Mulberry colour and down below my knees, it`s a little big, but wraps up well and once I have warmer clothes it`ll be fine.

One of our friends dropped in for lunch, I think she senses when we have shrimp for lunch, there was plenty to share and she demolished what was left of the lemon bar cake I baked, she is like me and not a chocolate fan but does like lemon flavour things.

Tom is making us a pot of tea right now, so will have a little something to go with it....nothing beats tea and a treat!!

Good morning. Not much going on here today. I need to do laundry and later will go out for more stitching supplies. I’m about to start a project that calls for 25 different colors of thread. Out of the 193 colors I already own, I only have 6 of what I need.

Here is what I just finished. It needs to be pressed and framed.
IMG_9953.jpeg

Morning all. Its the magical time of year in NEFL here.
I was still half asleep when I first read this. I was trying to figure out if that was a new football division.

However, my coat arrived and it`s perfect, beautiful Mulberry colour and down below my knees,

Sounds very pretty.

I suppose I should start being productive. I really want a nap. I woke up too early this morning.

Happy Friday everyone:)

I am sitting here and looking out the window at SNOW!!!! It's our first snow of the season and it's around 30 degrees outside now. We are in for a cold spell with lowers in teens and highs in low 30's for several days. The first snowfall is the worst to get used to. The only problem with snow here is that it stays on the ground until March or April.

I envy our new poster drenalin junkie for living in Florida this time of year! Welcome.

Charade: Your cross stitch is absolutely beautiful! I used to do cross stitch when I was in my 20's and made 4 pieces of the Nativity scenes that are 8 by 10. It took me a while, but I get them out every Christmas. It is a relaxing and rewarding hobby:)

Lynne: I envy wearing shorts this time of year! Enjoy that!. You mentioned baking a page or two back. What kind of things do you like to bake? I usually do pies, especially apple pies, and cakes.

Schumigirl: The discussion about husbands cooking was interesting. You are fortunate that Tom cooks. I think that if the father or grandfather cooks, then the son has a good chance of continuing the tradition. My grandpa was a great cook and my Dad was great too. He loved being in the kitchen and making big meals for us all. Of course, I was always there to help them eat it, LOL. My husband cannot boil water. That's just the way it is with us. I cook and he does all the stuff that guys do and I don't want to do. It works for us. But If I win the lottery one day, I am going to hire a cook.

Pumpkin, looks like we can bond over the snow, LOL. You Know what I mean about that first snowstorm......

As far as the great Turkey holiday debate? We have Turkey at Thanksgiving, no surprise there. For Christmas, we have a variety. Sometimes turkey, ham, roast beef, just about anything. Easter is always ham.
Carole, I think that know it all person was just sounding off. There is no "set" holiday dinner we must eat, just like everywhere else. We all have our traditions.

Keisha: Thanks for the photo of the California Raison, LOL. Mom looked just like that. She is only 5 foot tall if she stretches, so she made a cute little Raison:) I bet you do a great job on your smaller quilts. It is a lot of fun to do. I admit I have a huge supply of fabric and supplies and finally got my own sewing room. For years, I sewed on the kitchen table and had to remove everything if the grandkids came over or for supper. I love making quilts for the family and friends.

About 4 weeks plus a little until my daughter and I head to Universal. It is coming up fast, but not fast enough, LOL. I have already put away our summer clothes and brought out the heavy winter coats. I will have to dig into the lighter summer clothes for our trip and will bring warmer ones too. You never know what the weather will do in Florida.

Mac: Your pumpkin carving sounded like fun, and the inventive pumpkins are great:)

Everyone have a great weekend!

ruth
