Something About Nothing............ #14

Happy Tuesday everyone!
Being retired, sometimes I get the days mixed up which is irritating. But I do know today is Tuesday.

Charade, those photos of your drive through the hills are absolutely beautiful! It makes me miss Tennessee. We used to go to Gatlinburg to stay in the fall and loved the drive through their hills:)

Well, Carole, I have to borrow your word "dreich" to describe our dull, rainy, Cold weather. We have a good chance of SNOW this Friday, Ick! I guess there is a big winter storm hitting the Dakotas and Montana and we might get some of that snow too. I know it's almost November, but I hold out as long as I can hoping winter will hold out too:) But with high temps of 30's and lowers in the teens this weekend, I think I need to prepare for reality:(.

Keisha, I loved your photo of your family in their costumes:)
My Mom dressed up one Halloween as the California Raisin and it was hilarious. I hope you can remember the California Raisins???? I guess I'm dating myself!

Lynne: It looks like we are having the same cool weather. Just not ready for it yet. My snow boots and heavy coats are still packed away. I will wait for the last minute to get them out.

Today is a "free" day for me. I have absolutely nothing I have to do. I can ignore the dust bunnies (Keisha) for another day:) So, I decided to work in my sewing room on a quilt for my grandson's graduation. I have one more year to get it ready. I make all the grandkids a strip quilt for graduation. They are fun to make with all the extra strips and fabrics I keep in a big bin. I just pull out some randomly and make strips to fit a 6 1/2 inch square. It's all random and none are alike. I usually back them with fleece.

I made spaghetti last night and always have leftovers, so no cooking tonight!!!
I've also started on a puzzle, which I've really been enjoying over the cold months. Lynne, I see you are doing a Mickey one! That would be fun. I haven't done any disney ones.

Everyone have a good Tuesday:)

ruth

Being a lady of leisure is wonderful Ruth, but agree it`s easy to mix up the days!!

lol....remind me to teach you how to pronounce it "Scottish". My lovely friend D from Ohio loves learning Scottish words and is good at picking up the affectations of my mother tongue! Hopefully the weather isn`t too bad for you, it still seems so early.....

Enjoy your free day, relax and chill.....sure you can`t make lunch tomorrow :rotfl:

Seems I need new glasses after all, not a huge change to my prescription, but did pick two new pairs, one for close up and an extra pair for tv watching, don`t really need them but thought I might as well.

Will pick them up next week.

It is cold out there today, looks mild, but very deceiving, time for a hat and scarf now. It was too wet to hang around town so we popped into a grocery store for a few bits and off we popped. Passed an hour or so with some friends then home again.

Time for dinner, getting hungry!

We live Gatlinburg. Dh and I honeymooned there. We were there this past December. We had to leave Dollywood after just 3 hours because of snow.
I know you live in the north, but I still think it is too early in the year to be getting snow.

I envy people who don’t have to wear glasses all of the time. I can’t see near or far. I have progressive lenses now. I would lone to go back to wearing contacts, but my eyes get too dry.

2 hours of work left and still nothing to do.
B has informed me that the new driveway is finished. Can’t wait to see it.

I thought about just hopping on a plane and flying over for lunch, but I have to take Mom to the store tomorrow:(
I also hung out my last sheets for the season!!!!:faint:. Makes me depressed! All laundry lovers dread this day:)

I admire you for being able to wear contacts at all.....no way ever on this planet could I put them anywhere near my eyes! Nope, happy to stick to glasses.

Hope you`re happy with the driveway.

Aww shucks, the gals and guys would liked to have met you, but your mum will be glad to see you....... ☺️

Yes, I don`t think we`ll have any washing on the line from now, it`s too damp even if we have a sunny day. It is one of my favourite household jobs.....fresh laundry, especially when it`s been dried outside. I do get teased for being like that, but like most things.....I don`t give a rats patootie :P

I was reminiscing with my mum last week, I was recalling how she made us laugh as kids in the 1970`s she would bring washing in that had frozen solid and hold shirts up and they never moved! Those days are long gone, I don`t think our winters are as cold as they were back then in the UK.

Lordy but dinner was good! Ended up roasting all the veg together even added some onion (might regret that) lots of spice and rosemary and then quickly seared off the pork steaks, very nice and very filling and warming dinner.

Friends asked if I`d go to a Psychic evening next Wednesday, I would normally jump at the chance, love all that kind of thing, but it`s the day after my gum bone is being drilled into, so not sure I`ll be comfortable enough to be with company the next day. Shame as I`d love to go. Haven`t been to something like that for years, but always have a good experience when I have gone.

But, time for the last pot of tea of the day, and an episode or two of Sherlock.

We`ll see what we feel like doing tomorrow when we get up.....

Most Terrific Taco Tuesday today to all.
I had a special request for tacos today. Went out to grab stuff to make them, find out said askee (is that a word?) decided to go out to a late lunch with a friend.

that’s ok, i hear tacos are good on Wednesdays too

did i see you post in CP thread about making that “last minute” xmas trip ?:magnify:

good for you, just you & DD again?
I hope you can remember the California Raisins???? I guess I'm dating myself!
I heard it thru the grapevine

That’s so impressive. Someday I’m going to make “a real quilt”. Have taken a stab at the easy, quick ones in the past
Will pick them up next week.
That’s very quick. We always had to send ours out to whatever lab participated in our vision insurance. Not sure how that works for us now. Shamefully, now that I can get a pair every year vs the two in the past, haven’t taken advantage of it.
also hung out my last sheets for the season!!!!:faint:. Makes me depressed! All laundry lovers dread this day
oh, I’d never make that club, laundry is a necessary evil in my mind. If I had laundry room up on my top floor, would probably feel a bit differently, or not lol

Lol blue jeans were the worst for me. Crazy how stiff they’d get. Haven’t hung out clothes for, ahem, decades. Pretty sure it’s against local zoning ordinance. Ridiculous

Yes, they`re really quick getting them back, a week is about the average for them to be done.

lol......I love doing laundry, maybe it is me after all...... :rotfl:

Our laundry room is off the utility room, so it`s nice and handy, I would hate if it was in a basement scenario....those are always kinda gloomy, I actually like the room they`re in, it`s light, bright and airy......god I do sound like a saddo!!!

That is a funny meme!!!!

Heading to bed soon, both of us are yawning now, I think it`s the change in the weather making us so sleepy....of course getting up so early helps there too :rolleyes1

Decided to go and look for another coat tomorrow, I bought one a few weeks ago but I`m not sure about it, so I`ve seen a kind of mulberry coloured one I`ll see what it`s like on and decide whether to get it or not.

More rain forecast too......bleurgh!!!

Keisha, yeah she talked me into seeing holiday stuff in the parks. Got military rate for hotel and will be buying military tickets soon. Plus, had SW credit to use, so well, parks for some holiday fun. And use of that AP for two days more. Have to see that concert the day we come. Still mulling if we want to do the HS party ticket, as already got the MK one. Hmm. Maybe will see how those who go when first start ones at end of next month. You doing some park fun, maybe when we are there?

Hmm, kids had a late lunch. Maybe grilling steaks I bought two days ago, for dinner. Had a nice outdoor fire last night. Made those smores. Had bought the ingredients the other day. Nights have been just a little cool and clear skies the last couple of days.

We r skipping it. Was hoping it’d be more along lines of the old dessert parties there. Don’t get me started on missing Osborne lights boohoo

Imo it’s perfect for locals who want to really dress up, appears lots of interest in retro 40’s & 50’s fashions ala dapper Dan days. Couple of shows, one jazz. Lots of food & wine sort of small plates

We come in on 25th for two days, then cruise. To WL on 1st & Back home on 6th. Going to work in U, SW, MVMCP & CP-Stamos again.

Make sure to catch some gingerbread houses

Gorditos came out pretty good if I do say do. Cheese makes everything better

Literally cut tortillas I had to fit the hard shells &. melted cheese on in oven. then carefully molded around the hard shell. Let them crisp up a bit more. Who knew so easy to make?

Great looking taco, Keisha. Going to miss ya, but cruise and park fun, yay for you!

Almost my bedtime, so will say good night, as nicer weather tomorrow for camel to say hello.

They do look good Janet.....no cilantro wins every time!!

must say, this stopped me in my tracks lol

View attachment 804896

lol.....there`s something in that!! He`s certainly lived an interesting life!! Also odd the one who led the "cleanest" of lifestyles out of all them is the one who has passed away!!!

Pass me that booze....... :rotfl:

Chucking it down with rain this morning, but should clear by the time we get out, our gardener is annoyed as he wants to do the last mowing, I doubt it`ll get done now.

Can`t wait to get into lizard mode again!!!

So, yes, going into a town to hopefully pick up a coat I`ve seen and like, if they don`t have it I`ll order it online and will have a rumble round some stores there while we`re in, but so many big stores have closed down there like so many town centres. One of the stores was called Debenhams, similar but smaller than Macy`s, it was lovely to wander round and shop in it, but sadly all gone now.

Meeting a couple of friends for a light lunch, just in a little coffee house that do beautiful grilled sandwiches, only five of us though today.

Salmon for dinner tonight, and doing our old favourite parmentier potatoes roasted with garlic and rosemary and some spice along with carrots, red pepper and onion....I`m feeling brave with the onion!

Time for more tea and will have just plain old toast and preserves for breakfast. Got to start the day with my tea!

Have a wonderful Wednesday :)

Ah that mid week reminder.

IMG_2528.jpeg

Yay, camel is here with that hump of a day feeling Wednesday reminder, where then Friday becomes a day away. Woot! And yeah, a commuting day before that shorter day not commuting Friday. Sigh. Next week, with it getting over 30 degrees lower, decided to start November with mostly every Friday a lazy day.

Weather. Yay for another nice day, and into the low 70’s this afternoon. What an end of October. 80 degrees predicted for Saturday, and month ending next Wednesday predicted a high of 48. Yeah. You read that right.

Our Halloweens have been more cool feeling, and not that long in the past, had snow, and quite a few were rainy. But the weather guy said our 10 day forecast has the rain chances on Sunday and Monday, and a clear enough partly cloudy Halloween, with the kids arriving in a 48 or so degree early evening. Yep, you will find me in an Army wool blanket, thank you DH for putting them into our front door closet. And my lightweight, low puff jacket. Gloves probably too. But hope the some chance of rain that day, is not when the kids come to collect their candy.

Thus, as an early bird week day routine day for me, and I hope all have that most Wonderful Wednesday in this last Wednesday of October.

Wow this month has flown by. But yay, was to have an October baby, but older one had other plans, and was induced to arrive next weekend instead. And so, was a glorious sunny, with a huge window showing those beautiful Fall colored trees, day in November when we welcomed older one on Election Day. The only time I did not vote. And was a lucky kid, as every so often, he had no school on his birthday that was on Election Day that year. Not this year though. Most likely he may be working it.

Ooh more tea for me. While I bump up the heat an hour before I get up, it goes lower two hours later. Hence a throw over my legs as it does feel a little cool inside. At least it didn’t go into the 30’s last night. Warmer, with Summer weather ending this week. Totally looking forward to a record breaking 80 on Saturday.

Rousted to drop off the truck for oil change. Mr rewarding me by making breakfast woohoo

Forecast said no rain. Looks threatening. Will see if it clears before trying to walk.

parmentier potatoes
First glance that read ‘dementor potatoes’ to me

Need to Google that
and a clear enough partly cloudy Halloween, with the kids arriving in a 48 or so degree early evening.
They changed our forecast from bad to worse

Now, a high of 45 & rain during day. Night 28 and showers. At least not snow showers, that will probably be added in a few days

We sit out among the animatronics, there will be layers of clothing, snow boots & gloves this go round

I hand out full size ones, so will save one for you Mac. I average around a dozen, and I bought a 18 bar box.

Mirning us crawling.

Hope you have no rain next Tuesday night, Keisha. I hear ya, with bundling up. I may wear my DH’s Army winter jacket. I sweated in it when shoveling snow one year. It gets toasty. And is long on me.

Ooh what to make for lunch. Thinking maybe grilled cheese. Pickles on the side.

Not my picture, but this is them...garlic and rosemary are essential ingredients. I may rename them Dementor Potatoes from now on, I like that!

Isn`t it lovely when our husbands cook for us!!! Tom is determined to cook for us once at least once every couple of weeks now he is back into the habit....I could get used to this!! He is a very good cook I have to say.

Oh that is going to be cold for you Janet!! Yes, hope the snow stays away a little longer!

Didn`t get my coat, they didn`t even have it in the store, so when I came home I ordered it online, should be here in a day or so. Might be a little early but looked for an outfit for Christmas day, didn`t see much but will find something I`m sure.

Then went to lunch with a few friends which was a nice catch up, coronation chicken sandwiches which are beautiful, some nice coleslaw and salad with some spicy olives! Nice lunch but will still have room for salmon for dinner, maybe we`ll eat a little later than usual.

Pretty miserable here weather wise, damp. That`s about it.

Time for a cuppa though, Tom is up in the office printing something or other off.....will give him a shout, he`s always up for tea and a goodie....

Nothing going on in my world today.
Cats are napping next to Mr Mac

Most likely will be Taco Bell for dinner as neither one of us wants to grocery shop today.

I did cook a ham steak last night and had planned to make ham salad with what was left of it.

Scratched those plans when I saw Mr Mac having it for breakfast this morning.

We missed Taco Bell last week as decided we would take a break from it.
Those plans were scrapped this morning as neither one of us wanted to grocery shop.

The best thing of retirement is not having to think what to cook for dinner.

If the fridge is empty, there are 6 eateries down the street from us.

LOL I had to laugh about how excited you are over your laundry room:) I love my laundry room too. Good grief! I think there might be something wrong with us, But I don't care......I've always felt alone in the world because no one I know likes doing laundry or hanging out clothes. I get giddy as a kid when Spring comes and I hang out the first load of sheets:) Looking at this, I think I might need therapy o_O

Well then I need to join you in therapy!!

There`s nothing quite like laundry especially bedding straight off the line, getting into a bed with sheets, pillow cases and duvet cover all as fresh as the day, there`s nothing nicer.

We missed you at lunch today.....lol......hope you got your mum what she needed.

It`s still raining here, not too cold but not pleasant, but it is that time of year.

Tom just asked me what are we doing tomorrow, told him I`d think about it in the morning another perk of being a lady of leisure. I know we do have some shopping to pick up, I need to go back and get us some of that beautiful garlic I picked up last week from a local farm store, beautiful when roasting the whole head on it`s own then squeeze it out....gorgeous, very sweet.

Watching some detective show on tv, it`s a new one with a sense of humour, very light, a little like Agatha Raisin meets Midsomer Murders.

Maybe have a tonic water....very rock n roll!!!

Bought my first two turkey breasts of holiday season. Looking to grab one or two more tomorrow at different store

Refuse to go thru last minute search for them as last year

Getting nervous re a nice sized ham. They have plenty of the prepackaged slices mac referenced but i need a biggin as family likes their leftovers
