Something About Nothing............ #14

Good morning. Not much going on here today. I need to do laundry and later will go out for more stitching supplies. I’m about to start a project that calls for 25 different colors of thread. Out of the 193 colors I already own, I only have 6 of what I need.

Here is what I just finished. It needs to be pressed and framed.

I was still half asleep when I first read this. I was trying to figure out if that was a new football division.

Sounds very pretty.

I suppose I should start being productive. I really want a nap. I woke up too early this morning.

That`s really good Charade, very detailed too.

Yes, I love it, think it`s my new favourite coat!!!

Have a nap, why not.....

Still raining, it`s bouncing down here.

Dinner was beautiful, didn`t over cook the pork which is so easy to do, but it was very tender, feeling very full but made room for some ice cream later I made this afternoon. It`s never too cold for ice cream.

Pot of tea first though and maybe a chocolate biscuit tonight, maybe a kit kat.

Happy Friday everyone:)

I am sitting here and looking out the window at SNOW!!!! It's our first snow of the season and it's around 30 degrees outside now. We are in for a cold spell with lowers in teens and highs in low 30's for several days. The first snowfall is the worst to get used to. The only problem with snow here is that it stays on the ground until March or April.

I envy our new poster drenalin junkie for living in Florida this time of year! Welcome.

Charade: Your cross stitch is absolutely beautiful! I used to do cross stitch when I was in my 20's and made 4 pieces of the Nativity scenes that are 8 by 10. It took me a while, but I get them out every Christmas. It is a relaxing and rewarding hobby:)

Lynne: I envy wearing shorts this time of year! Enjoy that!. You mentioned baking a page or two back. What kind of things do you like to bake? I usually do pies, especially apple pies, and cakes.

Schumigirl: The discussion about husbands cooking was interesting. You are fortunate that Tom cooks. I think that if the father or grandfather cooks, then the son has a good chance of continuing the tradition. My grandpa was a great cook and my Dad was great too. He loved being in the kitchen and making big meals for us all. Of course, I was always there to help them eat it, LOL. My husband cannot boil water. That's just the way it is with us. I cook and he does all the stuff that guys do and I don't want to do. It works for us. But If I win the lottery one day, I am going to hire a cook.

Pumpkin, looks like we can bond over the snow, LOL. You Know what I mean about that first snowstorm......

As far as the great Turkey holiday debate? We have Turkey at Thanksgiving, no surprise there. For Christmas, we have a variety. Sometimes turkey, ham, roast beef, just about anything. Easter is always ham.
Carole, I think that know it all person was just sounding off. There is no "set" holiday dinner we must eat, just like everywhere else. We all have our traditions.

Keisha: Thanks for the photo of the California Raison, LOL. Mom looked just like that. She is only 5 foot tall if she stretches, so she made a cute little Raison:) I bet you do a great job on your smaller quilts. It is a lot of fun to do. I admit I have a huge supply of fabric and supplies and finally got my own sewing room. For years, I sewed on the kitchen table and had to remove everything if the grandkids came over or for supper. I love making quilts for the family and friends.

About 4 weeks plus a little until my daughter and I head to Universal. It is coming up fast, but not fast enough, LOL. I have already put away our summer clothes and brought out the heavy winter coats. I will have to dig into the lighter summer clothes for our trip and will bring warmer ones too. You never know what the weather will do in Florida.

Mac: Your pumpkin carving sounded like fun, and the inventive pumpkins are great:)

Everyone have a great weekend!

ruth

I think we posted at the same time!

Yes, some men just enjoy cooking and such. I feel guilty at times I don`t let him get on with it some nights, but, I enjoy cooking so much, I`m very selfish like that :) But, he does a very good job of tidying up every night after dinner, clears the table and then makes us a lovely fresh pot of tea!

I agree, I don`t do some jobs like putting out the trash bins or other such jobs, he doesn`t want me doing that either......I really should wear a tiara.....lol.....

Also agree, that person was talking nonsense, she likes to mock me, it`s funny to watch 🤣

Nice countdown.....we are so looking forward to finally getting to say hello to you and your daughter!!

Disney, I bake cookies, cakes and sometimes brownies. When the weather gets cooler, I tend to use my oven more. Like having the kitchen warmer and smelling good.

What a nice day. Perfect weather for lunchtime walk. Kinda overcast, but shades in anyway. Hmm, maybe Chinese for dinner tonight. Have to see family voting for that or other.

thanks for the shout out disney senior but I was not the homie pumpkin gal.

I don’t bake pies but buy then at Publix
We are in cental hub in Intracoastal Jax. 3 Publix, 3 Walmart, 1 Target, 1 Fresh Market, 1 WinnDixie, 1 BJs within a couple miles plus ethnic stores. Those Publix pies are staples even when we bake, pumpkin, pecan and mince. The others stores for bread, cookies and pastries.
I'm making Biscoff, Nutella and mocha truffles right now.
Spraying in fall colors tonight or tomorrow. About 8 pounds worth.
It's gray here so I figured some warm flavors were needed.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

Hey all.

I’m beat, did my annual extra deep
Chemical clean/restoration/seal of tubs. Older cast iron sorts, in lovely shape as I’ve babied them

Need to wear respirator mask, windows open & fan running or you get woozy sort of thing. Panic’d when I went to reorder appears it’s been outlawed, no longer manufactured. >:( Time to do some research there for another alternative

Glad I made some jambalaya base up. Just had to andouille sausage & shrimp this afternoon

In the minority, not a fan of either Publix sandwiches/hoagies (you get spoiled with good hoagies in the north lol) or their baked goods (Find them too sweet). With the humidity in south tough to produce baked goods in general

However, I’m absolutely all in on this new FL event. :rotfl:

https://www.thefloridamangames.com/

Carole much more rain & you will float away. Cold front just coming thru. When I went out to grab a loaf of Italian bread watched the temps drop 6 degrees in an hour

Like Keisha, we usually do turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then beef roast or ham for New Years.

Turkey & ham every major holiday.

Xmas Eve my version of 7 fishes

NYE party food, wings a must

NY day pork & kraut

Always something Italian with every holiday meal

Multiple desserts-pies, cookies, cake; often cheesecake. I Make those demitasse chocolate spoons for coffee. Fancee;)

I do a candy/sweet board that is generally attacked pre dinner by the hungry horde. Hey, it’s a holiday go ahead & spoil your dinner free day!

Admittedly, love to celebrate life any chance I get. :bounce:Do enjoy being creative with cooking & love pleasing the family with their favs. A small thing that gives them joy. A win-win!
We usually get a fresh one.
Closest turkey farm here an hour north. They are $7 # here this year, only guarantee a 16 pounder. That’s not even worth cooking in my book. We have turkey hogs here lol.

I do struggle to use the dark meat as nobody favors it. Generally will hide it in soup if I’m stuck with it. Find the breasts have much less waste for us

Mr kept hinting yesterday as we loaded up round two of turkey breasts thats it’s been so long since we had turkey (Easter lol). Surprising him with cooking one for Sunday
I think she senses when we have shrimp for lunch,

Her shrimpy senses were a-tingling lol

We have been doing only turkey breasts for years now, Keisha. No one in extended family really liked the dark meat. Nothing wrong with a candy/sweet board. My one brother, who doesn’t live close, brings a bag of chocolates from a favorite chocolate store near him. All nibble in the bag well before dessert is served.

Quite night, just watching some college volleyball and letting DH sleep.

Tomorrow is to be so beautiful, and warm, we are going to see how busy the park Fall celebration will be. Then maybe get a milkshake from the dairy farm store near it.

We put out chocolate as a fondue in a crockpot with cheddar, marshmallows and fruit early on holidays and nosh on charcuterie til an hour or so before dinner.
Most of our friends bring a side or dessert.
We try to send all the leftovers we can with the singles and older crowd. I just want a dark meat sammich day after.
The bread and pastry quality post 'rona haven't recovered fully locally. The ethnic bakeries are our best bet.

We love the Feast of the 7 fishes, I fish, lobster and spearfish commercially part time and the local area is home to a huge fleet of fish and shrimp boats. Zupa de pesche on ceviche are regular meals too.

lol.....that Florida Man is hilarious!!!! Yep, I`d be in for that too!

Tom is a huge fan of dark meat, insists it has more flavour than the breast meat which is true, so he will fight for the legs, yes, I`d tend to use that for soups or pies. We always get a full turkey, very rarely buy just the breasts however we do get turkey crowns now and again.

I`m with you on the cooking for family, hard to beat it. I`m first in line if you ever open a B&B....... ::yes::

Yes, we are getting a lot of rain these past few weeks, storm last week was bad enough for the folks that are getting flooded, we`re fine here but it`s so sad seeing folks homes ruined and more heavy downpours predicted in the next couple of weeks.

I swear if we have shrimp or open a bottle of wine.....she has been known to appear almost immediately!!! We used to say that about our friend E that passed away in 2016, she could hear the cork pop!!! Gosh can`t almost believe at times she`s been gone over 6 years now.

@schumigirl

I giggled when I seen this!!! And their little.guy...is perfecting his inner Michael too. I thought you and other might like this

I can only see a black square :sad1:

Sometimes we are out of region for seeing things, even when I use a vpn.

Forgot to mention

DS manages dept of 50 people

15 out this am with verified Covid

2 came up positive via mandatory testing @ work

:headache:

Did see several accounts on FB of people testing positive after doing HHN.

This is seriously getting so old:bitelip:

It is isn`t it.

Not hearing much of it over here right now and not hearing anything about boosters anymore......

Well, it`s not raining this morning which is something!

And another bit of a sleep in this morning which is always lovely when it`s still pitch black outside, but enjoying the first cup of tea of the day while sleeping beauty sleeps a little longer. I`ve only the pancake batter to make up later, grill the bacon and we`re good to go for breakfast.

Dropping round to hand in a wedding anniversary card and gift to two good friends, this is their 30th and tomorrow they set off for California, Hawaii and end up in New York, I think they`re gone for just over 3 weeks, I do hope they have a wonderful time.

Then another quiet one for us today, maybe have a movie day, cocktail or two this afternoon, one of my godsons might drop by as he`s in the area, then Thai food for dinner tonight or we might pop into the local pub for dinner, they have the best home made food around, haven`t been for a while.

But, a nice lazy Saturday, no shopping anywhere!

Seems farm stores are suddenly becoming popular......

Absolutely awesome pictures Robbie!
Thank you

45 degree temp had me moving a mite faster today on 5k. Still, so slow lol. Naturally, Lil left us in the dust & sprinted off after a block along with her mom
Cute photos of you, hubby and granddaughter.

see little boo in that bunch of pumpkins!
Yes, I made little boo’s eyes a bit to big.

Lovely pictures Robbie.

Some very talented people out there!!!
Thank you, they do have a way with the Pumpkin carving tools.

Today we took a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. These pictures don’t do it justice.
Beautiful pictures of your drive.

Bought my first two turkey breasts of holiday season. Looking to grab one or two more tomorrow at different store
Nothing wrong with getting your turkey needed for the holidays.

I was admonished by someone on here many years ago for saying Turkey is for Christmas, I was "educated" that it wasn`t the case in America.....I knew there were folks that enjoyed turkey at Christmas too in the States!!!
Turkey is popular in our neck of the woods for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We have it mostly on Thanksgiving though because hubby doesn’t like it that much.

He told me he would eat it, but only on Thanksgiving……So I usually send leftovers home with family.

And yes...it's cold and snowy here. The snow arrived Sunday morning. It's been unusually cold - about 15-20F. The forecast is calling for more normal temps for the weekend and next week - and it can't come fast enough lol. I am already dreaming of where we are going for a warm winter holiday X2 hopefully.
Sorry to hear the white stuff has already appeared in your area.

Here is what I just finished. It needs to be pressed and framed.
That is an awesome dragon cross stitch. I’am sure B will love it.

I giggled when I seen this!!! And their little.guy...is perfecting his inner Michael too. I thought you and other might like this

That’s hysterical. The part of the video were the little one is dancing to the Dad playing the scary piano part of the music to Halloween is priceless.

Not much going on here. Woke up far too early this morning. Will head back to bed shortly and see if I can fall back asleep.

Have been busy with appts and such lately.

I saw the podiatrist on Tuesday. I will have to continue to wear fracture boot for another 3 weeks. Not what I was wanting to hear, but oh well.

It was 82 here yesterday. Weather is supposed to start cooling off today.

I did get out yesterday to see the massage therapist. Then I went over to Costco to have a look around.

Hubby has been wanting chicken pot pie. I never make chicken pot pie.

Costco had some nice looking premade ones in the meat department. So I picked one up. Will have that and a little salad and dinner is taken care of this evening.

I’am not a fan of chicken pot pie.

Back when I was a little girl my mom would occasionally make those small frozen Swanson chicken or beef pot pies and I did not like them. Those pies and Goulash were every 1960’s moms go to for dinner.

I always said you would never get pot pies or goulash in my house. Now I’am eating my words…..LOL.….there will be chicken pot pie on the table tonight.

I did do the crescent roll dough instead of the pizza crust dough for the skull pizza trial and it worked out great. I also tweaked the stuffing in the pizza. So these will be on the menu too for Halloween party.
IMG_8172.jpeg

I did get the cookies, cake and cupcakes ordered for the party. I used to bake all the goodies for the party and it was just too much with all the other food prep.

I have the candy bars bought for the Trick or Treater’s. So slowly getting everything in place for Halloween Festivities.

Funny all the stores around here are already in full swing with Christmas decorations.

Heading back to bed.

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone doing whatever makes you happy.

Ooh you are up early Robo. Great looking skull and nice you are getting all ready for Halloween this Tuesday. Hope you got back to sleep or get in a nap today. Ugh, sorry to hear boot wearing for more weeks. Hope you get some good news on your foot soon.

Ah that quiet Saturday. DH was out at our usual get up time, as a volunteer this morning. Kids are sound asleep. I did get up with him, but then tried to get back to sleep. Couldn’t. So filled my teapot full, made some of those overnight oats, and added some strawberries and blueberries. And a little brown sugar. Then been watching whatever is mostly for background noise. At least some live European and British shows are on now. Afternoon there already.

Our warmest day, saying may be close to our 1999 high of 85 today. And bright out this early morning. Clear sky when I waved goodbye to DH in that clear skies very early morning time. Alarm went off just in case he was not up. No matter, both of us were up before the alarm went off. But let it go as traffic and weather news at the 2’s. So yay, to hear a clear and a little windy, 13 mph winds, nice and warm day. Any late day rain for us is to be North and West of the city. Said tomorrow, the temps fall and the rain chances increase. But ready to wear those shorts and sunglasses to enjoy this beautiful weather. Told little one, we should be up earlier if we want to get to that Fall fun in the county park, and see how busy the farm stores are in an earlier time rather later.

Ooh I need more tea. Wishing all to enjoy a lazy Saturday today. Super happy Saturday. Weekend time. Yay!

That was so funny, yep, the little dude was rocking it......quite a good adult mask too. Thanks for posting it!!

I do like your crescent dough instead, that should be a big success at the party.

Have a lovely weekend!

No trick or treaters here due to where we live, but as we were dropping off our friends anninversary card, got a call asking to help as there is a Halloween party in the village hall Monday night, they`re looking for baking and snack donations as well as Halloween candy. No problem, but thought this had been sorted out....seems not. A few of us will help out and will buy some chocolate bars and sweets tomorrow. Very last minute but we`ll manage.

It is cold!!! 50F, but feels damp although it is getting brighter.

Breakfast was indeed lush!! No need for lunch today as we are very full. Might have a snack this afternoon, I have everything to make some duck spring rolls and some chips and dip, decided to get Thai takeout tonight, cosy night in I think!!

And our clocks go back tonight, extra hour to snuggle up with!!!

Oh Keisha, think the time change is next Sunday not this Sunday. No matter, always good to snuggle up every night. You are up early. This weekend, my little village stores’ street has Halloween. Stores hand out candy, and the flower shop makes it a walk through family style horror store, with candy at the end. May walk down there tonight, if little one is game. Always nice of you help out when the call is given.

And yes, Robo, Halloween stuff has had marked down pricing for weeks now, and much more Christmas stuff in the stores now. And have seen Black Friday sales’ notices lately. Don’t remember them showing the sale items so early. Eh, like in past years, most of my purchases will be online.

Keisha: I had to comment on your New Years day menu.
Our family has always had kraut and pork. No exception. The explanation was that it was an old family tradition from German ancestors, apparently, LOL. I still make it but am not a fan.

German/Scottish/Austrian/Norwegian ancestry here too, yes, we`re mongrels 🤣....but.....I have never got the taste for saurkraut! Janet has convinced me I haven`t tried a good one yet.....she might be right, she usually is 😁

We went to Germany many times occasionally visiting family in Bavaria.....yep, they made us saurkraut with sausage one time that was not good.....thank goodness I had snacks in our cases as I wouldn`t have been rude and not eaten some of it. I do love pork though!!

Quiet on here today....

So, since our clocks in the UK go back tonight, you guys are next week in the USA, we`ve decided to have a late night Halloween movie fest tonight.....get the big screen up, first up, Halloween of course, the 1978 original, the old classic Psycho and The original Fog movie again Jamie Lee Curtis in one of her very early movies.

Change of plan with food, Indian food is coming around 6.30 then we have snacks if we need them later with some very nice bottles of wine decanting right now.

I`m going to be a little too busy on Halloween itself to enjoy it, dental implant appointment, nothing fun, so we`ll do our movies tonight...Tom will have a rucksack in the guise of me tonight 😉

I feel the sauerkraut miss. Lived in Germany and my stepmother is Korean and made kimchee too. No rotten veggies for me.
Never got the Euro fascination with pickling either.
Maybe a couple times a year.
Friends are in MK this morning, late and no preplanning🙄
As mentioned yesterday. Biscoff and Nutella mocha truffles.

Psycho, Halloween, The Fog and now Insidious makes a very nice Halloween movie night.....

With the clocks moving back...not the USA of course I have to say as you are next week, but we have that extra hour of snuggle time tomorrow......

Thinking about Insidious 2, but might be too tired for that......

Almost bedtime here.......:wave2:
