For those who live in NYS or MA, what do you think of the rival state? Has anyone never visited the other state before? How deep does the sports rivalry go in your opinion? All other related questions are welcome.

Well, I grew up in NY and now live in MA, so I love both. 🩷🩷

The sports rivalry is certainly there, and it's fun to mess with each other, but we set it aside without question when it gets in the way of real support (like after 9/11 or the Marathon bombing).

I love the slow pace of life in the tiny town I'm from in New York, and the history and culture I'm surrounded by here near Boston. And both states have natural beauty - rolling hills and sparking lakes where I'm from in NY, and the amazing Atlantic ocean here in MA.

I can echo what @PollyannaMom said. I grew up just outside of Boston (Peabody) and lived in Ithaca, NY for 2 years and in Syracuse for 5 years. The sports rivalry between the Sox and the Yankees is real, but it is all good-natured (well... for the most part), but the inter-state support is always there. I love the history of eastern Massachusetts, the coast line, and also the hustle-and-bustle of a big city. I'm a city mouse and don't mind driving in traffic; most of my friends in our small college town think I'm nuts! I also loved living in the Finger Lakes region. Although the winters are brutal, the natural beauty of the area, the gorges and lakes, are just amazing- and the wineries aren't to be laughed at, either!

I live in CT. There is a sports rivalry with the Yankees and Red Sox, which as others have said is mostly good hearted and fun, but the actual states get along fine and there is a lot of support between NJ, CT, MA, and NY. Saying this shows how little you know about the region.

There's no reason to be judgy.

Folks complain that the community board is too quiet, but then people get put down when they start threads. :confused3

Maybe he doesn't know, and that why he's asking? Or maybe he thinks people from other regions have the wrong impression of the rivalry and might be interested in hearing locals say good things?

I do personally agree with you that we support each other. I can't say I know a lot about NJ, but I've been to CT and absolutely loved it!

I just put NYS and MA because it's those states that have the teams and most of the tourism. I live in the Hudson Valley, so I know and understand the fandoms of the sports teams pretty well. The thread was just meant for fun not meant to feel excluding in any way.

Me too.

The sports rivalry has always struck me as deep seated & vocal but good natured. You going to get lots of comments if you wear the "wrong" team gear but you aren't gonna get knifed.

So many residents travel between the two states regularly, and all of New England really. I think in the summer on Cape Cod, it's probably only 50% Massachusetts plates.

Do you care about all the NY vs MA rivalries or just some of them?

NY Yankees vs Red Sox

NYCFC vs NE Revolution

NY Knicks vs Celtics

NY Rangers vs Bruins

NY Giants vs NE Patriots

I'm NY all the way. 😁

I worked at an animal shelter on the Cape; we had a stray Boston terrier come in. Way too many Boston terriers are named Fenway... so I named this guy TD Garden as a joke & of course it stuck.

Im a Ravens fan but cant wait to see the NY Football Giants this fall. Maybe there's a Giants/Pats superbowl? I doubt it, since we got Maxx Crosby now. LOL
