Some people are so rude!

They are similar experiences, but the advantage of having a kidney stone over pregnancy is that after I pass the stone, there is relief. With a pregnancy, after giving birth, there is eighteen years of pain to follow (especially years thirteen - eighteen).

Yep, little kids do not let you sleep, big kids do not let you live.

So because YOU didn't want to wait, THEY should have to move? Sounds pretty self important to me. They were there first, it's their spot. While you may have felt there was plenty of room for your late arriving family to squeeze in, the people that got there BEFORE you may have felt differently. Is arriving an hour ahead of time a requirement to watch a parade? Absolutely not. But, if you want to choose the place where you watch it from, get there in time to do so, and don't expect someone who has been there to automatically move for you because your touring time is more important than theirs.

I agree. Our kids are grown now, but when they were young, we didn't mark our spots for watching the parade an hour early...we'd do it may 20 minutes prior to the start of the parade, but we certainly didn't expect people in front of us, who had obviously been standing there for a long time, to move aside for us. It's only fair that if you mark your spot early, then no one else should expect to show up right at the start of the parade and expect you to move for them.

Obviously, many in this thread are overly judgmental. It makes me happy that a majority of folks on this site make up only a minority of the folks I see at WDW.
How free you all are with the slams when you don't have to face someone.
For you perfect folks on here, remember what they say about people who live in glass houses.

Well, aren't you judging yourself right now:confused3 and for no reason at all

Not at all. I did not say anywhere in my post that I asked, indicated, or expected them to move. As a matter of fact, I specifically said that we had enough space for the 4 of us! We did not infringe on "their" space in any way, shape, or form. I guess they just didn't want to sit that close to the trash can and thought by spreading out like they did, nobody else would, either.

I found it rude that two people felt the need to spread out and take up so much space. I am sure two more families could have joined them comfortably. They had at least 6 feet of blanket and then a foot or two on either side with knapsacks and shopping bags. The length of time they waited was irrelevant...it was still rude!

If I show up 3 hours early should I be able to claim 20 feet of sidewalk frontage for my family of 4, just because I am there early enough to do it?

True, they shouldn't take more space than they need. I'm probably a bit too touchy about this subject because it seems that every time we grab a spot on the curb for a parade, some body comes up and tries to make us feel guilty about not moving for them. I'm more than willing to make as much space as I possibly can for them, and they are welcome to have their children sit with us so they can see, but it never seems to be enough for them. Sorry if I got too harsh with you, it wasn't my intention, but after re-reading my post, I could have been a bit more diplomatic with my response.:)

Ok...the whole holding a table thing....I guess it depends on which is worst: My family of 7 in line, my children whining/crying/bouncing around/being obnoxious/being indecisive with my massive double stroller, taking up space, or my dh standing in line while I get the rest of them out of the way of innocent people, sit them down and prepare them to eat? Now...that being said...if it's just me and my dh or myself and other adults...no...we don't save tables. It's easier to find space for two than space for 7, IMHO. Whether it's "right" or "wrong", well I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Honestly...these boards are the very first time that I've heard anyone thought it was rude/cheating/line cutting. No one has ever said anything to us. If Disney wants to have CMs standing around, seating people, fine, let them. But, we never saw a problem at CS locations other than Pizza Planet as far as seating availability. We also try to not eat right at peak meal times, which helps a little bit.

The bus system is always going to have issues. Whether it's people who have entitlement attitudes or bus drivers that should have been demolition derby drivers. We had some people shove in front of us in february going back to POR from DTD.....did they get an actual seat? Nope...they had to stand just like us. And that ride was probably the most scared I've been. Our driver hit the brakes so hard and so often, it was like he was trying to drop those of us standing. Luckily...it was so late at night there were really no kids on board. I do have to say though, as far as guests and not being courteous to others...that trip I saw more men and women standing to let others sit than I ever had. My dh and I did as well...sometimes they took it gratefully, sometimes they refused...but we always got a thank you regardless.

Well, aren't you judging yourself right now:confused3 and for no reason at all

For no reason at all?
You did read the two nasty posts to which I responded?

You're quite right. I shouldn't let the sarcastic, judgmental responses of certain people affect my day.

I don't consider it rude, but Disney is going try something new at some of the walk ups. When you enter, they will give you a menu, when you get your food, someone will then escort you to a table. They hope to eliminate the saving of the table and chairs. Be interesting to see how this works.popcorn::

Seriously, it's not rude. I'll be at Disney in February, those of you who feel me sitting my DD3, DD1 and my wife with 2 stollers, diaper bag, camera bag, cheap toys bought at a shop, old spoiled container of milk bought that morning at the resort store at a Counter service table is rude, then PM me and I will give you the exact dates and times of resturants I will be at any given day. truth of the matter is, if I went into the line with all of that mentioned above then we would hear from folks complaining about all the families of 6 in line. Of all the folks complaining about saving tables, I would like to know what would be your method of sitting all those folks and the ordering process that would be considered "not Rude"?

lastly, as I mentioned in another thread, Disney really loosely enforces any of their non-safety policies, and it changes from CM to CM, especially those youngers CM concerned about looking "hot" for others, and those concerned about what they are doing the next weekend. I'm waiting to see a consistant effort in bringing this seating folks at counter service tables will work...and in essence we are making counter service resuraunts more table service restuarants by assigning tables to folks......how far are we from seeing Pinnocios needing ADR?...anyone upset about me sitting my family at a table while I go for food? I suggest you get there before I........and I do get up for folks on buses...It's been a very long time since I've sat down on a resort bus!:thumbsup2
The saving tables thing...I say pick your battles

They are only doing this during the busy times of the year like Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and etc. So I doubt they will be enforcing this rule in February which means you can save a table without any problems.

There is a purgatory. You can order and get the food, and you party stands off to the side and waits until you get your food and then you find your table. If your family has to sit, they can find a bench somewhere outside of the restaurant and wait to come until you call them. Now I'm only talking about over crowded restaurants. It's my understanding that Cast members have recently been instructed to assist people with food looking for a table to sit, and if there are no tables available, they are to ask people holding tables without food to wait to be seated until they have their food. In other restaurants there only allowing people to enter through one door that will force them to order and get their food before sitting.

Actually I did not read them, you did not quote anyone and I assumed you generally judge everyone here, which would be rude to lets say me. I will read those posts, but again 2 posters not really majority, so it sounded generalized to me. I do not try to be rude to you, just observation.

Also, with your family of 7, its too bad you can't ride rides like splash mountain, Peter Pan, Dumbo, or many of the WDW, because you have to stand and wait in lines that take 30, 45 min. or an hour. Your kids that are crying and wining just won't let you.

There lies the problem!! we have a winner, all the folks complaining about the saving tables should....AVOID Thanksgiving,Christmas,New years....etc.

look are we really inplying that at some of the smaller CS resturaunts we actually ask families to stand to the side? the side of what? where would one stand at Pizza planet? how about the Columbia Harbour house? hundreds of folks walking around with trays of food and now I have to walk around a family of 6 standing to the side?...thats not really realistic either. Now folks are going to save resturant "space" to the side while someone goes to get food....Have not one of you ever gotten to one of these CS places and thought to yourselves...damn, should have gotten here earlier?....but instead you look at families sitting down at tables and thought how rude they are for sitting down at the table without food waiting on a frazzed father to return WITH FOOD from literally a few feet away......I just don't get it.:confused3

Wow. Just....wow. Whatever. I wasn't talking about rides, I was talking about the cs restaurants. One thing is NOT like the other, regardless of how you want to twist it. I don't have to justify my reasoning...I was just making an observation. Again...sheesh. Lighten up.

While my children will get up for certain people (disabled, pregnant, person with baby or toddler in his or her arms), I would never tell them to give up their seat for a woman. :confused3

Thank you. I was curious to know when being a woman became a disability? Or, for that matter, a pregnant woman?

As far as the table saving thing, if we all ordered our food, and then got our food, there would be a continuous amount of open tables available, hence, no need to save ahead to get one. I find it ridiculous that someone posted that it's okay to save one for a family while in line (which can sometimes take 30 min at the height of lunch), but it's not okay to linger at said table for 10-20 min after eating. Why is one acceptable and one isn't? Are you or are you not sitting at a table NOT eating while people are forced to eat on the sidewalk or on a trashcan? Why is it okay because food will eventually show up to be eaten? And, as for large families, I understand that the lines will get congested at first, but if it is done properly, things should, actually, smooth out in the long run.

Well I forgot to mention this new seating policy is only being tested at the Magic Kingdom counter service locations. Plus since it's just a test being done it might not happen at Epcot, Hollywood Studios and the Animal Kingdom. So if enough people complained about waiting in line with their kids and etc, then maybe WDW will put an end to this rule.

Also we won't see this rule at the counter service locations in Downtown Disney if it's expanded, because those locations are not owned and operated at WDW. So it's still ok to save tables there and it's something my family and I always do when going to Earl of Sandwich and Ghiaradelli, because they are always very busy locations. If some of you want to flame me for that go ahead, but it's something we don't feel guilty about.

No kidding, Pixiefairy! Could holding a table really be a midwest thing? I always thought we were pretty polite around here. But apparently some of the DISers have judged us otherwise.

Yes, it's definitely a midwestern thing, but don't worry.... I know that you're used to having someone save the table while the others in your party go and fetch the food on sticks that are so popular in your area.

First of all I would never flame a fellow Hockey fan, not what was intended, I am however significantly frustrated at the folks that choose a busy time to go to WDW, maybe choose a poor ill advised time to get lunch or dinner at a CS resturant and then imply that the folks that were there ahead of them saving tables were rude....it's like...hey i'm here, my time frame, get up from my table!! you ain't got no stinking food, that I have a problem with........there are certainly 2 sides, kudos to Disney if they are able to consistantly enforce a procedure that would indeed make everyone happy...albet impossible, as we are reminded time and time again on this very board.......again (not feeling guilty in the slightest) that family in the corner saving a table at the Columbia....thats me, I might even allow myself a guilty smirk knowing that I just frustrated the guy that felt i'm being rude.:thumbsup2 I then walk to the parade route, let several kids from behind me closer up front next to my kids. I help folks with stollers off the bus and I always allow another to sit in my bus seat...if the worse I do at Disney is save tables for a few minutes while I get food...well then guilty as charged.

Everyone has excuses. Being curtious is a state of mind, as well as only using good manners when it's conveniant. Any action you take that affects someone else in a negative way, may be considered an act of rudeness if those actions when given a little consideration could have been avoided. Many times there are reasons that certain actions can't be avoided, though I haven't heard one here yet.

Scuba, how about the father of those kids who were standing behind you at the parade to also come up and stand with his kids. Oh no, it wouldn't be convenient to you because he would block your view.
