Hi there. We leave for OKW on Sunday. It looks like I will be needing to rent a scooter to get around. But my question is, how accomadating are they to building/floor/room requests? I have heard there are no elevators at OKW. So if I rented a scooter, it would need to come in the room to be plugged in but we can't very well hike a scooter up 3 floors. Do you think if I called and mentioned this, they would assure me a 1st floor room so I can go ahead and rent the scooter????

You can fax the room controller at OKW 4-5 days before you leave and ask for handicap accessible room, 1st floor, and hopefully they will grant your request. The fax. no for the room controller at OKW is.......407.827.7710;)

There are 3 buildings with elevators. All others would require you to be on the first floor.

I'd call MS and let them know of your need. They do try to accommodate guests with needs like this. they don't usually guarantee any requests, but in this case I'd assume you will get this request met!

Good luck!

Requests for medical reasons are first priority. Definitely let them know and emphasize it's for medical reasons. I know there was some talk a few months ago about wheelchair guests not being allowed on the upper floors of the buildings with elevators but don't recall the final outcome. Good luck.

I booked for Oct and I asked them to put us on 1st floor. My mother in law is coming and that hike up the stairs is just to much on her. They were very kind and added the request right on to my ressie's.
Hugs Dawn:rolleyes: :earseek: :sunny: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

We were just in a building with an elevator...6233 was our room, great location right across from the HH. Good luck.

I didn't see this discussion but a common sense reason could be safety. In the event of a power failure or fire, the elevators wouldn't be working and it would be difficult to evacuate an incapacitated person from the upper floors.

I went ahead and called them and spoke to the woman at the front desk. She said that she'll note it on my ressies as a "medical reason" for a 1st floor needed. But then she said and we'll try our hardest to fufill that for you. So it is still not guarenteed. What if I rent the Scooter and they just can NOT get me a 1st floor room? What do you do then? The scooter would be a waste because I wouldn't be able to charge it. UGH!

You should be able to get a first floor, especially with the medical request, I wouldn't worry. I was there last week and requested second floor and got first. I had requested Turtle Pond Road, water view, second floor. I guess because I had second floor last, they found a room with my first 2 requests. It was a great room - 3111. Had a view of a lake with the golf course to the right. Lots of ducks, birds, rabbits, squirrels and one day a turtle! Didn't see the bobcat!

I know that when you book through the conventional system (Central Res/Walt Disney Travel Co.), any medically based requests are sent through Disney's Special Services dept. They have the authority to guarantee that medical needs are met.

I don't know if MS also works through them, but it may be worth asking.

No requests are guaranteed but I think you're pretty close on this one. Just don't arrive too late in the evening or give them a lot of other requests to cloud the issues. The one that always gets me are those that request first floor and are upset when they get a handicapped room.

This will be a problem for DCV and we membes as the membership ages. Now there are more handicapped rooms than needed, later I suspect that trend will change somewhat and those rooms will be a hot item.

MS is usually VERY accomadating, BUT last year we took my Aunt who is 88 years old----asked for elevator building or first floor for medical reasons...Guess what? We got 3rd floor!!!!!!!!!!! No elevator. I asked for a manager and there was nothing available!!! Now my Aunt is in VERY good health and was embarassed at this situation and said she could walk the two flights and thank God she did with no problem. We could have switched rooms a few days later, but we were ok.

I would take the advice of one of the other posts on this board and fax the request as noted in the post.

PS---We got there around 5:00 pm, so maybe if we had arrived earlier in the day we would have had our request honored.

Good Luck!!!:D
