Soaring, What do you think

LOVE this ride in California Adventure. I have ridden it a million times there. I look forward to trying it in Florida this August. The best seat is section B row 1. If you are brave you can ask for it. If you have sandals on take them off and stow under your seat and then straighten your legs out in front of you throughout the ride I swear you can almost feel the water on your toes! I do love this ride but because I have done it so much in the past years I am ready for a new film. Has anyone heard rumours about this? Marilyn :flower:

I thought it was wonderful - new and interesting. I would NOT wait 95 minutes for it though (which was the max standby time that I saw when we were there).

We returned a week ago from our 16 day trip and we rode Soarin TEN TIMES. We absolutely love this ride. We spoke to managers on several times to pass on our comments. It is so nice to have EPCOT "balanced" now. The standby waits can be long--even longer than TT. A FP is a must. We found ourselves walking back and forth between Soarin and TT most days. Standby was averaging 90 minute waits pretty much most of the time and this was in May--can't imagine what summer will be like. Before the official grand openning on May 5, your standby was 20 minutes and was doeable. BEWARE--fastpasses go very quickly. We often didn't get to EPCOT until 4:00PM and FPs were GONE by then. YES top row is best. It did breakdown a few times during our trip, so even with FP the waits sometimes got very long.

BTW: I get motion sickness, but this ride does not bother me....my balance goes off a little by the helicopter scene, but clears up after that--not enough to upset my head or stomach. It's GREAT!

DH and I rode just over two weeks ago and we loved it. I thought it was very realistic. We were in the front row, leftmost seats. When we first "took off", I spontaneously grasped the handles on either side of my seat. I look over at DH and he was doing exactly the same thing! At that point I just reminded myself I was watching a film. At the point where you go soaring over the mountain top I had to remind myself again because I felt myself thinking "I don't want to go up that high!". So I guess I learned from this experience that I am a bit afraid of heights, but I loved it anyway and would not hesitate to ride it again.

I am very prone to motion sickness so I took one Bonine tablet about an hour before we rode. I only had a problem for a very brief segment of the ride -- those few seconds when you do a quick banked turn over the aircraft carrier. I had to shut my eyes for a few seconds and when I opened them again, we were past that point and I was fine. I've read that other people prone to motion sickness have a problem at that same point. Next time I'm going to try the ride without taking Bonine because I really didn't see anything else going on during the ride that would have given me problems. There is a breeze during the ride and I've always found that to be helpful in combatting motion sickness, so other than the banked turn over the aircraft carrier I don't think people prone to motion sickness have to be concerned.

When I got off the ride I was thinking that I will never take up hang gliding, but I will definitely ride Soarin' again. I think I prefer to do my hang gliding Disney style!

I couldn't tell from the photo, but do the seats have seat belts? My DD is the kind of person who, even if the ride didn't move an inch, would want a seat belt!

Yes, there are seat belts. For kids, you pull that loop up between their thighs and thread the seatbelt through the loop to ensure there is no way they could slide out from underneath the seat belt.

Incredible! I got goosebumps from the first ride. I would higly recommend getting FP's first thing. Even during Passholders previews & soft openings, the line could get quite long.....

oh my goodnesss, I"m so excited, my family doesn't know anything about this ride, I can't wait to run to fp and surprise them....they'll love this one! Is there a height requirement, our youngest is 7 years old, not sure height.

According to the Disney World web site, the height requirement is 40 inches.

I have a real problem with heights.
but I loved this ride. I am sitting here anticipating my next trip to WDW so that I can ride Soarin' at least five times. It was fantastic.
The smell of the oranges, the flight over the aircraft carrier and the overflight of Disneyland were the highlights for me.
this will be the reason that I have to go to Epcot everyday during me visits to WDW. Much better than TestTrack or Mission Space IMHO.

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Lisa S -- I get it on the exact same segment as you do. I can not do any simulators or teacups, but this ride did not get me (except that "carrier" scene and I closed my eyes briefly and it passed). I did not take anything for motion sickness and you too will probably be OK without any meds.

Great ride. I wonder if they consider this a "thrill" ride?

I have terrible problems with motion sickness but had very little problem with it when I went on Soaring. I really enjoyed the ride just thought that it was too short a ride. :wave2:

Loved it ! Great ride. I kind of hope they change out the movie in a few years to something different, for us that go often. If not I will still ride it again. We have been lucky enough to ride on the front row each time. :earsgirl:

First time I rode it we were in the middle and the feet from the first row above us took away from the sensation but the 2nd time we were in the first row. It's more fun to lean forward a bit, too. It was a great ride. :)

I would encourage your husband to try it. It's not as bad as the rides you've listed (IMHO). Our 4 y/o DD, was afraid and cried the first time, but then after that we rode it 3 more times with her !!!!!! My family thought it was amazing. Was so distracted (with the DD crying) on the first time, didn't appreciate the scent they used on the ride as well.

This was the only ride I HAD to ride the whole week in Disney World. My sweetheart of a DS made sure we got on it first thing in the morning. We were on it and off by 9:15 am. I loved it. I took am not keen on heights and there were a few places I had to close my eyes.

The VERY first time we rode we were lucky to get in the Front row. Then rode it later with my sister and got the feet row.

I can't wait to do it again!

:confused3 :confused3 OMG I must be the only one that thought the ride was lame we were on the top it was not worth the wait time guess I will have to ride it again to see what I missed :confused3
