So tired smelling pot everywhere!!!

Pot smokers feel liberated to smoke it seems...and are smoking in public more than they would if it wasn't legal. When I walk around my town in the evenings, there will be people smoking weed outside of restaurants and bars....where that never happened before.
That makes complete sense to me. If it's legal for people to smoke in those areas, of course more people will be smoking there now than they were before when they could have been arrested for doing so, right?

So where are people smoking their legal weed that is not allowed? Besides areas where it’s ok to smoke cigarettes? I guess I’m not seeing it.
Me neither.

My husband and I have jobs that are subject to random drug tests. Of course, they won't test without just cause. I always thought weed stayed in your system for a while. Now that it's legal I've wondered how companies would approach that.
Some companies are changing their policies to no longer include cannabis results in their drug screening. The thinking is that if you are allowed to consume alcohol safely outside of work hours, you should be allowed to consume legal cannabis products as well.

This worries me as well. Young people today don't see any danger in it because they equate "legal" with "nothing to worry about".
I don't think young people are that unaware. Alcohol has been legal, but young people can understand that there are dangers including driving impairment, overdose, and long-term health risks.

A question here from an oldie here....What is the value, or reason, to 'get high'?
I think for most older adults, relaxation is the primary goal of cannabis use. There have also been several studies in recent years that show dramatic drops in the use of prescription medications for anxiety, depression, pain, and other chronic conditions among Medicare patients in states where it has been legalized. Most of the older people I know that use cannabis products do so in the evening to help with pain, inflammation, and sleep.

As for getting "high", the reasons would likely be similar to why some people choose to drink alcohol-- social facilitation, lowering inhibitions, relaxation, having fun. Personally, I have stopped drinking alcohol since starting to use cannabis products because I prefer the effects. It enhances sensory perception, so activities like eating, listening to music, being in nature, etc. are more enjoyable. I find that it has also enhanced deep conversations with my spouse and family members, facilitated personal growth, and has even been beneficial for therapy.

A lot of jobs make it a policy to screen for pre employment, random, and post incident…..

You agree to that as a condition of your employment.

If you work, in or near a federal system. You should remember the marijuana is still a schedule 1 drug, and as such has no legal use….

If a Company takes any Federal $$$ then employees are subject to federal drug laws, and the employer has a duty to ensure a drug free workplace. In addition, as a employer, I have a responsibility to ensure to the best of my ability that no one in a safety oriented position puts themselves, others, or others property in peril by being under the influence.
As I tell my employees...I don't care, and it's not my business what you do on Friday or Saturday night, but if I have to drug test you next Tuesday, or next month and you come up positive for pot (or anything else, but for the purposes of this discussion - pot) there is (at the moment) no way for the test to tell me "Joe Blow smoked pot on Friday night and perfectly sober on Tuesday morning". It just tells me "Joe Blow smoked pot - could have been 3 weeks ago, could have been 3 hours ago".
So while it may be okay if you have a position/job that isn't technically a safety oriented position to imbibe, you'll still be a liability for a employer and/or liable for injury to others. Case in point - I'm part of a captive insurance company, and I'm just back from one of our 2X year meeting. We have a diverse group of 54 Companies. One of our newest members recounted how, in the main office - they are a entertainment/rental type business - a person in admin position was attempting to move a bookcase over just a few inches. It fell, hit someone else. The other person wasn't hurt bad, they got a broken wrist. Work comp covered all medical and the person returned to work, light duty, in a week. The admin person wasn't hurt. BUT...even though they did smoke pot, they tested positive, and the other employee who was hurt lawyered up, resulting in a $50K payout. Basically winning on the fact that the employer did not ensure that the employee who was hurt was provided a safe workplace without the possibility of another employee who was high 0-30 days ago to accidently hurt them by moving a bookcase.
Again, I don't care what my employees get up to on their off time, it's not my business. What is my business is if they are drug free while working for me or on behalf of me so they don't hurt themselves, or someone else. And it's my business to provide the safest possible environment for all of my other employees. Plus it's the law that we must abide by when entering into contracts that are funded by Federal funds.
It's a fine line we have to walk often, in order to comply with local, state & federal guidelines, along with the guidelines our clients laydown, and protecting ourselves from liability. I will say, once they have a drug screen test that can determine with clarity how many days post imbibing pot a person is, AND that test is widely available and can say for sure "Joe Blow might have ingested pot a week ago, but at the time of the incident/drug screen he wasn't high" it will be a game changer and it is something we've been talking about/discussing at Risk Management & Insurance type get togethers for several years now.
Is it a pain in the butt to have to drug test folks? Sure it is, but I will not endanger my other employees or anyone else in order to not annoy someone by telling them to go take a drug test.

Perfectly said!

Take a drive on I70 into Denver, all the "weed" growers are along the route. The smell is off the charts!

I have friends who were basically addicted to prespription pills for anxiety, depression, sleep what not. the Typical pills middle aged women seem to take when they work 60 hours a week and have 3 kids in competitive sports ( not sarcasm, but need two hands to count how many I know excately like this) and now instead take an edible every once in a while. So I see some benefits..
here in germany medical cannidbis has shown great results in child seizure treatment, depression in elder care so I am all for it to be more researched for medical benefits. My mom is in pain, arthritis etc.. I wish I could bring her some gummies from the states. might be better to relax vs pop ibuprofin and kill her stomach and liver.

On that point I agree.

I am a medical user. I do not smoke to get high. At this point I really don’t get high In the way people think people get high. My tolerance is very extreme. This happens to many medical users. I have anxiety and OCD so no worries, I am very responsible 🤣🤣🤣🤪

Many people do not realize the natural benefits to the body from not only cannabis but hemp, cbd etc. alcohol has some minor benefits but it’s not even close to what cannabis can do. I honestly don’t know enough about the details too spout facts but I have first hand experience that it manages pain like a beast if you do it right.

Costs are all over for those that asked. I can get an 1/8 for $29 or for $100+ depends on what it is. I do not use edibles as they are ineffective for me and I am a lazy smoke so I rarely buy flower. I vape and smoke prerolls. I pay $59 for a full 1g THC vape cart and $45 for a pack of 5 pre-rolled shorties. That’s through a medical collective. I’d pay double that at a local dispensary here in NJ :rotfl2:

I started cannabis 6 months after surgery, chemo and radiation for stage 2 cancer in 2017. At that time I was on klonopin and anmbien and went from klonopin straight over to seroquel. Then I started to need pain meds for chronic sciatica. I started cannabis and was able to cold Turkey stop ambien that night. It took me 4 more months but then I got off the seroquel. I have a c3/c4 cervical retrolithesis, degenerative discs from 3-7..scoliosis in the middle because why tf not….and spondolythesis at l5/s1 with of course degenerative disc there up to l4 and impingement of my sciatic nerve of course. I have chronic sciatic on my left side and something new from the cervical retrolithesis happening in my right shoulder and going down my arm. I also have 6 years later still…chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy in my toes. My only pain meds/mental health/sleep meds are Cymbalta and cannabis. and Therapy…that’s important for chronic pain people even if you don’t have any other mental health issues 💪💪💪👍

Oh and I do NOT an enjoy the taste nor the smell. I am not getting used to it. It is NOT an acquired taste. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: It always smells skunky and always tastes skunky but the n sometimes you get pine sol and skunks butt and other times it a nice citrus and skunks butt. Gotta know your strains so you don’t get lemony butt when you are just expecting straight up butt.

Plenty of hard working decent folks enjoy a beer or a glass of wine.... and plenty of hard working decent folks enjoy a toke off a joint or an edible or two. Pot has been legal in Mass for several years now and the sky has not fallen yet. People are fully capable of using cannabis responsibly and dispensaries provide a safe way to purchase. Been interesting seeing all the places opening up. At least around me, they are all very nice and come off as very 'artisanal' and not at all like the shady head shops of old.

Several years ago, we were walking to our car after a showing of Les Miserables in San Francisco. A Phish concert had also just ended nearby. The theater crowd and concert-goers converged on the Civic Center Plaza, some heading to the parking garage and others hanging around, still enjoying their evening. The smell of pot hung heavy in the air. The usual San Francisco haze was purple. My older son pulled his shirt up over his face and yelled, "We gotta get out of here before get a contact high!"

People ARE fully capable of using cannabis or alcohol responsibility, but sadly there are many who do not. A close relative who works in the hospital ER says a large majority of their patients (from accidents or violence) either have marijuana or alcohol (often both) in their blood stream when admitted.
So I don’t care what people do in their own home, but when they get into a car or harm others in some way, then it becomes just another societal problem.

Do you propose outlawing alcohol as the solution to this problem of people not having the self-control to use responsibly?
