That makes complete sense to me. If it's legal for people to smoke in those areas, of course more people will be smoking there now than they were before when they could have been arrested for doing so, right?Pot smokers feel liberated to smoke it seems...and are smoking in public more than they would if it wasn't legal. When I walk around my town in the evenings, there will be people smoking weed outside of restaurants and bars....where that never happened before.
Me neither. So where are people smoking their legal weed that is not allowed? Besides areas where it’s ok to smoke cigarettes? I guess I’m not seeing it.
Some companies are changing their policies to no longer include cannabis results in their drug screening. The thinking is that if you are allowed to consume alcohol safely outside of work hours, you should be allowed to consume legal cannabis products as well.My husband and I have jobs that are subject to random drug tests. Of course, they won't test without just cause. I always thought weed stayed in your system for a while. Now that it's legal I've wondered how companies would approach that.
I don't think young people are that unaware. Alcohol has been legal, but young people can understand that there are dangers including driving impairment, overdose, and long-term health risks. This worries me as well. Young people today don't see any danger in it because they equate "legal" with "nothing to worry about".
I think for most older adults, relaxation is the primary goal of cannabis use. There have also been several studies in recent years that show dramatic drops in the use of prescription medications for anxiety, depression, pain, and other chronic conditions among Medicare patients in states where it has been legalized. Most of the older people I know that use cannabis products do so in the evening to help with pain, inflammation, and sleep.A question here from an oldie here....What is the value, or reason, to 'get high'?
That depends if you buy direct or resaleOut of sheer curiosity, how much does marijuana cost these days? Back in my college days, I heardit was $40 to $45 per ounce. Of course, most people bought half ounces or dime bags. Or so I’ve been told.

So it's exactly like DVC!That depends if you buy direct or resale
A lot of jobs make it a policy to screen for pre employment, random, and post incident…..My husband and I have jobs that are subject to random drug tests. Of course, they won't test without just cause. I always thought weed stayed in your system for a while. Now that it's legal I've wondered how companies would approach that.
If a Company takes any Federal $$$ then employees are subject to federal drug laws, and the employer has a duty to ensure a drug free workplace. In addition, as a employer, I have a responsibility to ensure to the best of my ability that no one in a safety oriented position puts themselves, others, or others property in peril by being under the influence. Some companies are changing their policies to no longer include cannabis results in their drug screening. Perfectly said!If a Company takes any Federal $$$ then employees are subject to federal drug laws, and the employer has a duty to ensure a drug free workplace. In addition, as a employer, I have a responsibility to ensure to the best of my ability that no one in a safety oriented position puts themselves, others, or others property in peril by being under the influence.
As I tell my employees...I don't care, and it's not my business what you do on Friday or Saturday night, but if I have to drug test you next Tuesday, or next month and you come up positive for pot (or anything else, but for the purposes of this discussion - pot) there is (at the moment) no way for the test to tell me "Joe Blow smoked pot on Friday night and perfectly sober on Tuesday morning". It just tells me "Joe Blow smoked pot - could have been 3 weeks ago, could have been 3 hours ago".
So while it may be okay if you have a position/job that isn't technically a safety oriented position to imbibe, you'll still be a liability for a employer and/or liable for injury to others. Case in point - I'm part of a captive insurance company, and I'm just back from one of our 2X year meeting. We have a diverse group of 54 Companies. One of our newest members recounted how, in the main office - they are a entertainment/rental type business - a person in admin position was attempting to move a bookcase over just a few inches. It fell, hit someone else. The other person wasn't hurt bad, they got a broken wrist. Work comp covered all medical and the person returned to work, light duty, in a week. The admin person wasn't hurt. BUT...even though they did smoke pot, they tested positive, and the other employee who was hurt lawyered up, resulting in a $50K payout. Basically winning on the fact that the employer did not ensure that the employee who was hurt was provided a safe workplace without the possibility of another employee who was high 0-30 days ago to accidently hurt them by moving a bookcase.
Again, I don't care what my employees get up to on their off time, it's not my business. What is my business is if they are drug free while working for me or on behalf of me so they don't hurt themselves, or someone else. And it's my business to provide the safest possible environment for all of my other employees. Plus it's the law that we must abide by when entering into contracts that are funded by Federal funds.
It's a fine line we have to walk often, in order to comply with local, state & federal guidelines, along with the guidelines our clients laydown, and protecting ourselves from liability. I will say, once they have a drug screen test that can determine with clarity how many days post imbibing pot a person is, AND that test is widely available and can say for sure "Joe Blow might have ingested pot a week ago, but at the time of the incident/drug screen he wasn't high" it will be a game changer and it is something we've been talking about/discussing at Risk Management & Insurance type get togethers for several years now.
Is it a pain in the butt to have to drug test folks? Sure it is, but I will not endanger my other employees or anyone else in order to not annoy someone by telling them to go take a drug test.

Oops...not on purpose for the contact highDH says he sits in his car and gets a contact high before going into work. They've quit doing any drug tests.
On that point I agree.here in germany medical cannidbis has shown great results in child seizure treatment, depression in elder care so I am all for it to be more researched for medical benefits. My mom is in pain, arthritis etc.. I wish I could bring her some gummies from the states. might be better to relax vs pop ibuprofin and kill her stomach and liver.
Ooohh.Oops...not on purpose for the contact highthought I'd better clarify
People ARE fully capable of using cannabis or alcohol responsibility, but sadly there are many who do not. A close relative who works in the hospital ER says a large majority of their patients (from accidents or violence) either have marijuana or alcohol (often both) in their blood stream when admitted.Plenty of hard working decent folks enjoy a beer or a glass of wine.... and plenty of hard working decent folks enjoy a toke off a joint or an edible or two. Pot has been legal in Mass for several years now and the sky has not fallen yet. People are fully capable of using cannabis responsibly and dispensaries provide a safe way to purchase. Been interesting seeing all the places opening up. At least around me, they are all very nice and come off as very 'artisanal' and not at all like the shady head shops of old.
Do you propose outlawing alcohol as the solution to this problem of people not having the self-control to use responsibly?People ARE fully capable of using cannabis or alcohol responsibility, but sadly there are many who do not. A close relative who works in the hospital ER says a large majority of their patients (from accidents or violence) either have marijuana or alcohol (often both) in their blood stream when admitted.
So I don’t care what people do in their own home, but when they get into a car or harm others in some way, then it becomes just another societal problem.
