So tired smelling pot everywhere!!!

People ARE fully capable of using cannabis or alcohol responsibility, but sadly there are many who do not. A close relative who works in the hospital ER says a large majority of their patients (from accidents or violence) either have marijuana or alcohol (often both) in their blood stream when admitted.
So I don’t care what people do in their own home, but when they get into a car or harm others in some way, then it becomes just another societal problem.
I’m guessing there isn’t a lot of violence associated with marijuana.

I told my daughter there is a skunk epidemic in Chicago when she asked why it smells everywhere.

But I’m convinced this is the newest fad since it is becoming legal more places. Once the newness wears off and studies start coming out about how it damages your lungs then people will either quit or change delivery methods. Just like vaping. I don’t know nearly the amount of people who vape now compared to a few years ago, and I don’t smell it in public often either. Because the skunk weed masks it. 😂

UGH! Skunk weed! That smell is awful. And not the same smell I knew in college.

You do you, but I don't want to walk into that smell when I am out and about. Vegas ... forget about it. :sad2:
That’s the same thing I said. Back in the day they had Acapulco Gold, Colombian, red bud, and if you were poor or it was dry you smoked skunk weed. Everything smells like skunk weed any more. Nasty smell.

Several years ago, we were walking to our car after a showing of Les Miserables in San Francisco. A Phish concert had also just ended nearby. The theater crowd and concert-goers converged on the Civic Center Plaza, some heading to the parking garage and others hanging around, still enjoying their evening. The smell of pot hung heavy in the air. The usual San Francisco haze was purple. My older son pulled his shirt up over his face and yelled, "We gotta get out of here before get a contact high!"

At a Phish concert? No way! 😉

It's better than the time my friend saw Eric Clapton. He started playing the song Cocaine and a lot of glass pipes came out.

Up in Mass it is so bad I can often smell it through closed windows coming in from my car AC vent from another person's car.

Oh wow, if my parents did that, I would never let them live it down!
I have a son who is about to become a teenager. For health reasons, he cannot smoke anything, but we've had long talks already about cannabis, since I am a regular user (edibles for insomnia). Frankly, I'd rather have him experiment with it with ME rather than with his friends.

After reading through most, if not all, of the posts I have to admit a bit of confusion. Pot, smells like Skunk? I have experienced both in my lifetime and Pot smells nothing like Skunk. So either those that think so either have never experienced the pungent odor of skunk or they have never been in an area where pot smoking was happening. Pot has its own kind of sweet smelling odor that is all it's own and not even close to anything else. So maybe those that were telling their kids that it was skunk they were smelling might have actually been skunk.

I switched to a vape because I live in a smoke free building. Canada has been weed friendly since 2018 and, at least where I live, people are not just walking down the street or waiting for the bus and blazing up. Does it happen, sure, but it’s definitely not the regular.

I said a few pages back that if you (general) think weed smells like skunk, people are smoking cheap *** weed.

Of course there will be people who do dumb things. But should responsible people be punished also because of other people who break the law. Do we outlaw everything that might be used irresponsibly by someone? My point was despite what some folks seem to think, not all pot users are drug addled losers, many are decent regular people.

Are you in the city? I can say I have never experienced that in Western Mass where I live, but then again we are pretty rural. While it may be legal, you can still be busted for DUI in a flash if your car is rolling off smoke like some Cheech and Chong ... same as with an open container of alcohol

I also live in Western Mass (hi @Sugar Mag) and can attest that the issue is not a big deal out here, despite the huge concentration of pot shops in this area. I experience the lingering weed smell much more when I am in Boston or NYC.

I know what a skunk smells like. I know that I think cannabis smells and tastes like skunk. Not much to be confused about :) :rotfl2:

There are strains that are literally called skunk weed. As someone who has smoked weed, been around people who smoke weed, and — I kid you not — lived with a pet skunk, I can confirm that they smell very, very similar.

Scientific studies have even been done to determine where the skunky smell comes from. (Spoiler alert: It comes from 3-methyl-2-butene-1-thiol (321MBT). Geez, I would’ve guessed 4-methyl-2-butene-0-thiol (420MBT). Shows what I know!)

I went to a 6th birthday party at a kids’ play place this weekend and was hit in the face with the smell of skunk when I walked in. On the way home, it wafted through the car vents from another vehicle. I’m in Georgia where it’s still illegal, so I don’t know that it would be much different for you guys who have legalized it if you hadn’t. I think there’s just been a cultural shift and people are choosing to be open about it regardless of the law.

Edit: Almost missed the opportunity to make a 420 joke.

I'm more interested to hear about the pet skunk!
