So tired smelling pot everywhere!!!

Funny story...a few years ago I read my DS the riot act :furious:...turns out there actually was a skunk holed up under our back steps. :o

Why the riot act? Were you mad that your son didn’t share with you? :duck:

Somewhere in his mind, "legal" meant that he could just smoke whenever. Anyway, the week after I spoke to him....there was a new doorwoman who had replaced him.

Yep, we had a young new hire who’d smoke pot outside during breaks or lunch. Just because it was legal didn’t mean you could return to work high, same as it was a company violation to get drunk with alcohol. He was spoken to but continued to imbibe and was terminated after about a month.

If you preform a "safety sensitive" function you can be terminated for smoking off duty or on.
If you perform any function with a federal license, you will lose that license and be prosecuted for violating federal law.

So yea, it legal someplace, kinda, but not always

It is getting really bad in hotels too. I only stay in non-smoking hotels, but people only interpret that as tobacco cigarettes and smoke as much weed as they want. It typically spreads throughout nearby rooms via the bathroom vent systems. It's awful. It stinks. It's against the hotel policy, but rarely enforced. People do whatever they want without thought or care of how their actions affect others.

Using an intoxicant while driving?!? That can't be legal were you are, is it?
It is not legal. You can be issued a DUI if caught. I smell it all the time from nearby cars. Lots of people are driving while high. People assume that because it is legal it can be used whenever and wherever they want. I hope enforcement is stepped up.

BTW God forbid i light a gosh darn cigarette in this place, this country has lost it marbles.
For people with asthma, allergies or other breathing issues, your cigarette can immediately trigger severe coughing fits to the point of needing emergency help, nausea, headaches - not to mention the proven cancer risks from second hand smoke. (A loved one DIED as a result of lung cancer - from second hand smoke from parents, then spouse).

Any smokers who expect others to breathe their poison, knowing what we know now about tobacco - has lost THEIR marbles.

In most jurisdictions, where smoking is prohibited by law, so is smoking pot even if pot in general is legal.

In private venues where the law allows smoking, it's up to the venue whether or not they will allow pot smoking as well. In these places, getting someone to enforce either the venue rule against smoking tobacco or pot can be problematic at best. Heck. Even where it's illegal, it can be problematic to get someone to enforce it.

And much of the time, it's an employee too rather than a customer.

:rolleyes1He's an adult and can do what he wants...just not at my house. The same thing goes for the skunks.

Is the physical reaction to marijuana smoke different?

Depending on the brand and the hotel level…..

Most will take action rather quickly if you place a call to the front desk….

It has been my experience, the large name brands do not want to lose a good customer, and have to deep clean a room

I didn't say Id light my cigarette. I said God forbid if I did. This was a public space and no smoking allowed. Now granted the venue is as close to the dead as you could get aside from Phish so the cloud goes with the show. I was just pointing out that as an occasional cigarette smoker I think we get more heat and really I am betting they are darn close to as bad second hand wise. Seen some reports now that between this and vaping(which is worse) they are tarting to realize they both do lung damage.

I spend 150+ nights a year in hotels. Primarily Marriotts and Hiltons. My experience is that calling the front desk has a very mixed bag of results. Some care. Many don't want to be bothered or confrontational.

I only spend 75 or 80 nights a year in Marriotts, with exception on a residents inn in savannah.

Most will deal with the problem quickly…

Maybe I stay in nicer areas, that are less receptive to misuse of the property

Maybe you do.

My experience has not been the same as yours.

Have you reached out to Marriott when the front desk does not handle the problem….

I have found, regardless on the issue, hotel managers don’t want that call

We've had weed pens come to school as well. With the increase in legalization, we're seeing adolescents get easier access to it, unfortunately.
I work in a high school and the vaping is INSANE. Those who use are the majority. I worked at this same high school about 7 years ago (before legalization here) and it's such a vast difference. Don't get me wrong plenty of issues before, but it's a complete mind change and shift of right/wrong that cam with the legalization (for adults). Many parents don't care, and law enforcement has told us there's really not much they can do. We have and are actually getting an additional prevention counselor and programs this year, but the Marijuana and vaping and full out addiction issues are so prevalent and scary. At my last school (elementary) in a different area of the country (we're military) I had 4 different 4th/5th graders bring in, use and get caught with a vape. It's just nuts.
