So I thought I'd jazz things up a bit and write an essay onPLEASE READ MY UPDATE PG2!

I think how you titled this thread - the comment about "jazzing it up" - is also what is rubbing some people the wrong way, including me. There is nothing "jazzy" nor funny about debating that the Holocaust was a lie. The fact that you claim to be Jewish and can be so light-hearted about playing devil's advocate is appalling. I don't even know what to believe with you anyways. Take the 100K a year job that you supposedly turned down for example. You backtrack so much in all your posts that it's ridiculous. For the love of pete - at least get your stories straight before you post them here.

So what was the one you interviewed for and signed the letters? Will you have to move to take it up or can you stay where you are at present? what's the protocol for these things ; will they let you have a holiday for a couple of weeks or do you take it up straight after your exams....or is it conditional on your results?
That was for a graduate position in recruitment, that's the one I accepted. It doesn't start till September and is conditional on me passing but not at a certain grade. The reason I took that rather than the higher paid one is because it had scope for international travel, better promotions and more money in the long run.

I haven't been back to post for a while so I didn't realise this thread had got so far. :confused3

HUH? What do you mean you hadn't been back in awhile? Didn't you just post it this morning? Wow, you're a fast writer! I read the post, am the first to reply, I go volunteer in my son's kindergarten classroom for the morning and I come back and you're already had time to change your topic and write your paper. I guess time flies when you're having fun!

Yeah I think I was just in the right place at the right time. I worked for a particular guy who was very senior and his assistant (who was also office/finance manager for the dept) is due to leave around the same time I graduate. He asked me if I'd take the position when I graduate. (consequently I said 'no')
Why would you turn down a 100,000 job. What pay will a BA in history with spanish earn in the UK? In the US it would be not 100,000. If you got a job at all.

ChrisnSteph, I'm sorry I offended you, I really am. I didn't mean to be funny or anything. It was just a bad choice of words.

And if you care to extract my posts one by one and read them in order you'll see they actually do make sense:

ie, I was offered a well paid secretarial role but wasn't sure whether to take it or go for a graduate role.

Decided to see if I could get a graduate role, interviewed for it, got the job.

Maybe it is confusing because I've written about a few different things, but it's all true and please feel free to take a look through the old posts and see.

I did get a job (see my posts above) in recruitment. The history is valuable for the research skills and the spanish for language skills.

I turned it down because I can (in the long run) earn more as a recruitment consultant once I've worked my way up through the ranks. I don't really want to be someone's assistant forever either. The job I have pays less than that but the earning potential is double (don't forget in £s it is pretty much half so $100,000 is £50,000 - which isn't a huge amount living in London - so in the long run going for a job which will pay more when I need money for a family, house etc, is probably more sensible. It might sound a lot in $s but it isn't groundbreaking in £s)

One other thing, florida-again...I've always understood where you're coming from and chalked a lot of your melodrama up to your age. I have a DD not much younger than you and figured that you were just being you and seemed like a nice enough young lady. It's hard to chalk this thread up to immaturity, though. If you were my DD I wouldn't be too happy with you right now. And I understand playing devil's advocate--I have a son who does that a lot, but why not just write your paper and not expect us to understand this. Makes me think you were trying to get a reaction or that you really aren't who you say you are.

I'm on UK time! It's late here. The whole day's gone. And it only takes a minute to decide to change my topic :confused3

I didn't just decide to write it! It was an essay title out of three to choose from and we had a lecture on it yesterday so I thought I'd give it a shot!

You know, it is a great educational exercise to craft an argument supporting something you don't believe in. I don't think anyone would have jumped down your throat if you had made it clear that your essay was just an educational exercise.

But your title and your post was inflammatory - intended to get us all "jazzed" uo. Please don't forget when you post that we are all real people on the other side of these keyboards.

UK time is only 5 hours ahead of us, right?

5:00pm isn't considered late there, is it? :confused3

for what it is worth...
I had an opportunity last October to spend a couple of hours at the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. The place is so incredibly graphic and moving, it even had my 15yo smart-mouthed don't take anything seriously boy shook to his very core.

Whether you are Jewish or not, maybe you also need to spend a couple of hours some afternoon reviewing some of the writings and pictures in order to gain an understanding of why your "jazzy attitude" angered people so very much.

A lot of people are accusing me of not being who I say I am :confused3 does that even happen? I am me, can;t really prove it any more than that. I was wrong to expect people to understand because I omitted to say I HAD to write an essay and that was one of the titles. But I have apologised and I'm really running out of ideas short of promising to go away and never come back!

The devils advocate thing couldn't be further from the truth! I actually posted something else a while ago about an essay or a class or something and got some very interesting answers, the only thing I thought was that people might have interesting opinions. Naive/ignorant yes. But doesn't make me an ignorant person full stop, just had a moment of thoughtlessness. it was a bad move but I really don't know how else to fix this mess to be honest. :worried:

I've been to the one in Israel and seen plenty of temporary ones in England and went to a Jewish school so have studied the holocaust for years. It was really just an error on my part to type that. It doesn't reflect my attitude.

Not late but enough time to have changed my mind about my essay title. And it's dark now too.

::yes::

Quite frankly, I had to leave the museum because the shoes exhibit just broke me down. :(

Mickeyboat, I know. My post was never meant to upset anyone at all. Just a bad choice of words. I didn't mean to even cause any debate. It was early, I had a day of essay ahead of me and I typed without thinking. But my goodness am I paying for it now!

I had to write about the Holocaust deniers once and it's definitely not a subject I would choose to write about. I never considered it "jazzing things up".

Ok, I'm running out of steam here to keep apologising.

I didn't mean jazz up in an exciting way, I meant make my day of essay writing more interesting and write something that would require a lot of thought on my part. It was honestly just a bad choice of words.
