Do you make instant or homemade mashed potatoes?

I personally make both.
When I'm pressed for time (which is always) I make instant.
When I have time, especially holidays, I always make homemade.

I right there with you on this one. During the work week, it's instant, but on the weekends and holidays homemade only.

Mashed potatoes is one of my favorite comfort foods and although they take a lot of time to make (especially the peeling) they taste sooooo much better than the boxed.

It has be homemade for me.

I do both. But I don't make the Potato Buds out of flakes in the box anymore. I buy the frozen mashed potatos and make those if in a hurry.

I never do instant mashed potatoes. But will admit, since I never buy them to try, they prob. taste better than they did 30 years ago. Maybe I should try them again.

I was the only one for voted 'instant'. I'm not too big of a potato eater, but when I want some, I use the boxed kind.

For a "nice" meal I always make regular - with red potatoes only - I hate all other kinds of potatoes for mashed potatoes. I used instant if I am doing a quick meal like open faced hot sandwiches.

I always leave the skins on. They're more nutritious and I think they taste better that way.

I sometimes do both. When I don't have time to peel potatoes (and sorry, I absolutely cannot stand potato skins of any kind, let alone in my mashed potatoes) I will use instant. I will *never* use instant for company that is beyond just myself and my DH.

Amazingly my mom would do a lot more instant when I was a child and it reminds me of back then... even though they do taste sooo much better than when I was a kid. I kind of like them now and then just as a rememberence of her.

We usually make homemade, but my daughter loves the Betty Croker Four Cheese instant potatoes (she calls them orange potatoes, and told her pediatrician all about them yesterday), so we make them every once in a while.

Only homemade--even during the week. I've never even purchased instant potatoes. Peeling only takes a few minutes and if you cut them really small, they'll cook in about 15-20 minutes.

I make both usually it depends on if DBF is eating with us or not. If he is its homemade if he's not its instant. Kids aren't picky but DBF is, they have to be homemade with lots of butter.

Homemade only. My family will not eat anything instant but thats ok, at least I can control the sodium and etc. I also use real butter not margarine.....Mmmm

Homemade only! I think the boxed ones are nasty. It really doesn't take all that long to make homemade.

Just to add, it isn't about time of making them always, as it is the time going to the store to get the potatoes. There are only 2 of us in the house, and potatose go bad quickly here unless I make them daily (which no thanks, I like variety). If we had more eating them and more often I probably would make them from scratch more often. This is oddly one of the only things I will substitute with... I just hate wasting food. Everything else I make is almost always from scratch.
