Sleepless at Wilderness or Plan Shman 10/21 **PHOTOPASS Pics Flik!**

I just love the Tree of Life. :goodvibes

Me too. I haven't really taken the opportunity to explore all around it though. I think you can, right?

I'm not suprised that our schedules were different. We stayed off property so the plan was to AVOID any park that had EMH as much as possible. The EMH would make the park so crowded during the day, with no reward of getting the extra hours later.

I grew up in Oroville, which is north of Sacramento. I live in Redding now but I have lived all over the state. I think I went to Magic Music days in 1989 - 1991 ish. I graduated in 1992 and we didn't go that year.

You should really check out the DL Resort again. Right now they are totally overhauling DCA so I would wait until they are done with that, so that it is worth the money you are spending. But in my opinion, some of the rides are SO much better at DL. Not all of them, but definitely PotC, Small World, Space Mountain. Plus they have the Indiana Jones ride which is a favorite of ours, and Roger Rabbit in Toontown.

Sorry, I won't hijack anymore! Looking forward to more updates!

Don't worry about hijacking!

We there during the same time then. I graduated in 1990.

I was looking at the maps and all the info about DL and getting really excited about going there. We will definitely have to do that. Not sure when though. But I'm hopeful that we can do it sooner than later!

We definitely would end up with different schedules if you were off site. I would do the same thing if we stayed off site!

I love reading TR's and DR's and mostly read (or is that called lurking!) but don't comment, but I wanted to let you know that I really am enjoying your TR. Keep it coming!

No alarms. No wake up calls. We snoozed away in our room cocoon until after 3 PM. We awoke feeling refreshed. DH and I were not entirely rested. But we were ready for more fun. DS, capable as only a child can be, of bouncy back into high energy mode, wanted to go swimming!

We had a little time.

A little.

We had 6:00 PM ADRs at Jiko:The Cooking Place. The plan was to eat there before heading over to AK for PM EMH. According to the last park hours I had seen, EMH would be from 7 to 10 PM. I was eagar to make the most of these hours. My thought was to go early to Jiko, so we could get back to AK earlier.

With warnings to DS to not complain when we said it was time to leave the pool, we quickly suited up and headed on down. Again, the pool was very busy. Again, the lounge chairs were few and far between. Again, DH and I were somewhat disappointed in the whole pool experience. And AGAIN, DS hopped right in and proceded to thoroughly enjoy himself.

DH and I were very happy to spend a bit of time in the hot tubs, AGAIN, though.

We left the pool area feeling decided refreshed. At least it helped to cool off. Limbs stiff from the immobility of sleeping were stretched out. Our appetites were seriously huge. Nothing like swimming to really get your hunger on. We were so ready for the tasty meal ahead.

We didn't bother with showers. Chlorinated water cleans, right?

I mistakenly reported what DH wore to dinner this night. We like to joke that he is my life-sized Ken doll. Whatever I want him to wear, in general, he will wear. Whatever floats my boat. He's all over that. A while back we found these great rayon shirts in various tropical and tribal inspired fabrics. I really liked them. I bought him a bunch. We had picked one out to wear to AKL because it seemed especially appropriate. So much so that we make jokes about DH possibly getting mistaken for a CM. We brought DH a change of shirt and shoes to wear to AK in the car.

Getting around WDW by car is really very easy. This time, I left DH to just enjoy the ride and not struggle to read out directions from the trip binder. He had been making cracks about how the only one in the car that couldn't read and drive was having to navigate. I just followed the signs to AKL. It helped that we had been there before. But still. Piece of cake.

As I had predicted, our early arrival at Jiko was no problem. The restaurant was virtually empty. To read about our dining experience, click here, if you haven't already read my dining report.

Feeling pretty groovy with full tummies (and a bottle of wine between DH and myself), we headed on out to AK.

As we drove through the parking gate, I was thrilled to see that Disney must have changed the park hours from the last time I had looked at home. AK was open until 8 PM! It was 7:45 PM. We had made it there BEFORE PM EMH started!

The parking attendants were absent at this time of evening. We were able to choose our spot. We snaked our way up to park very close to where we had been earlier that morning.

Our first destination was back to EE. I had FPs from earlier in the day. I had told DH that we might be able to use them. DH is a stickler for rules though. He didn't think it was right, and he didn't even want to ask about it. We could keep those FPs as souvenirs.

On the way to EE, we saw a Photopass photographer standing where the mountain for EE forms the backdrop. There was no one waiting, so we paused. We took a few poses with all three of us, and a few more with just DH and myself. I didn't see another Photopass photographer throughout our evening's touring, so I was very happy that we had stopped to get these taken.

We arrived at EE to find that there were no FPs for EE available. Unlike MK, AK doesn't restart the FP system during EMH. The line was clear out of the queue and heading down the walkway. We understood that anyone who had gotten into the line before official park closing would be able to ride. Likely there were many non-Disney guest park attendees in that line. Confirming with the CM working the line that riding it later would likely be better, we headed over to Kali River Rapids.

I love a good water ride. We've ridden the circular raft version of a river ride at Sea World in San Antonio. It's a fun little jaunt around a concrete pathway through some pretty landscaping. We have a good time riding it. You get sufficiently wet. Especially if you are at the front of the raft as it dips down and water comes splashing over the side. I have a knack for being in the wettest seats on rides like this.

I expected no less this evening. If you are familiar with travel fabric. My skirt was made of it. Not necessarily quick drying. But a comfortable thing to wear wet. My shirt was out of quick dry fabric. And now, I had my Tevas on. I had also brought a change of shoes for after dinner. We were all dressed to get wet.

I was ready to see Disney's rendition of a water raft ride! I love Disney theming. There was a 20 minute posted wait. We hopped in line.

As excited as I was to see all the theming of KRR, I can scarscely remember what the queue is like. We ended up meeting a family, Dad, Mom, and two kids (bro and sis), from Virginia. They were DVC members and staying at the AKV. Their daughter was close in age to our DS.

It was really cute to see these two youngins take a shine to the looks of each other. My DS. I see it before me now. Those eyelashes are going to be something else for the young ladies to resist. And like I've already mentioned. My DS doesn't have any negative thoughts about those young ladies. He has already talked about life with a wife. When he's a Daddy. Did I mention that he asked a girl to marry him in Kindergarten?

We all were having a fine time hanging out in this line. So much so that when we got to the CMs that ask for your party size, the other Dad said 7 so we could all ride together.

I again pulled out my trusty gallon-sized ziploc bag to protect my park bag. As I had read here on the Dis, the place in the center of the raft to store your bags WAS wet already. It was another feel good moment for me. It's so nice to have done some research, prepared yourself, execute and have it all be simple and worthwhile.

There is NO WAY to ride KRR without getting totally soaked. Seriously. How in the world does anyone manage to NOT get wet on this thing? The first thing in the ride is a huge geyser that is constantly erupting. The raft goes right under this thing. And there you have it. Your clothes are now plastered like paper mache to your body.

There is also a fairly significant rapid, I guess, in terms of steepness. It's not like going over a waterfall, but it is a fair distance at an angle designed to give you a thrill. We were disappointed that there was only one. And that the ride seemed short. It's a keeper though.

We took our dripping selves across the bridge that crosses the ride. Herein are the water cannons. Water gun doesn't really convey the reach of these devices designed to give the exiting riders their revenge on any who appear to have made it this far on the ride below without getting sufficiently wet. Unlike other parks, no coin is required. Rest assured that the children especially will shower you with aqueous affection and laughter if you happen to pass underneath. My DS being no exception. I was pleased that the young man currently manning one of the few cannons there knew how to take turns.

We wandered into the little shop at the crossroads of the main path and the one that leads to KRR. I found several things in this little store to my liking, not the least of which was a spot of air conditioning. I sometimes have issue with buying things for myself. I think many mommas out there do. It's easy to buy for others. But somehow, buying for self is extremely difficult. I have found that with so many changes in life, becoming a momma, a full-time homemaker, moving so often, I have lost touch a bit with what I actually like. And I worry about buying things only to have them collect dust.

I was hemming and hawing over a skirt. At $36, it was just beyond that price threshold where I have to hesitate and contemplate and wonder about whether or not this would really be the best thing for me to spend money on. DH doesn't relate to this at all. "Bebe. Get the skirt. You can spend some money on yourself. We're on vacation. Stop worrying about it."

There was another lady in the store just as enamoured with these skirts as I was. These skirts came with an owner's manual. Seriously. 1000 Prints. 100 Ways to wear. 1 Item. I got the longer skirt. Go to www.karizadesigns.com. There's an instructional video. It's a wrap around style of two layers of fabric. Depending on how you wrap and fold and manipulate the two layers of fabric...It's not just a skirt. It's a dress. It's a shirt. It's the coolest thing EVER. After I got home and saw that the online price was $52, I was feeling pretty good about my $36 "splurge." This is the skirt that I wore to dinner later in the week. I will point it out when we get there.

We headed over to EE. Sure enough. The line was significantly shorter. A 30 minute posted wait. We walked on through the bell section and into the long outdoor switchback area with the short rock-like wall. And there we waited. Hmmm. No movement for a while. Do you hear the ride going? No. But I hear the announcement. Technical difficulties. You may experience a longer wait than anticipated. Thank you for your patience.

To my surprise, people IMMEDIATELY started to bail. Seriously? You won't wait just a bit? What if the ride comes right back on line? The three teenage men in line in front of us and I exchanged looks. "Whatever makes the line shorter works for me." Ah yes. We exchanged knowing smiles. Bail people! Get on out of here!

The three teenage girls BEHIND us in line weren't as patient. Thus began the great debate. Like the Clash song, should they stay? Or should they go? What if. What if. What if.

Despite the fact that the ride wasn't working, we moved forward in line. Taking pictures, we pased the time. DS took a picture of DH and me.

630.jpg

We moved forward a bit more. DS and I pulled up some rock. Self portrait.

631.jpg

DH said he could take a picture!

632.jpg

Meanwhile, the debate behind us continued.

The boys in front of us were reliving their day, looking at all the pictures they had taken on their much more advanced cell phones that I am likely to ever carry. Texting friends. Chillin'.

The line moved forward away from my sweet sitting rock. Now DS and another little boy were climbing Mt. Everest for real.

633.jpg

And the debate behind us continued.

I have to say it was a pretty boring topic of conversation to overhear. There was only one stroke of wisdom. This added by someone's Dad. You might as well wait for 30 minutes and see what happens. Wait for how long you thought you were going to wait and then decide if you want to keep waiting. Sage advice, I thought. DH did too. He even repeated it to me.

Sure enough. It didn't take the full 30 minutes for EE to get back on track, so to speak. Almost. But not quite. We started moving forward at a nice steady pace.

There's a water fountain in the EE queue, right before you enter the building. We refilled our water bottle here. Handy. The water was fairly cool as well.

Unlike this morning, the pace through the queue was more sedate. More leisurely. There was just enough time to take pictures. The last glimpse of EE before entering the building

DS was hoping that we would sit in the front row again. Well, Son, we'll sit wherever they tell us to sit. Maybe if there were less people we would ask. But everyone is just pretty excited to get moving again.

EE at night is a TOTALLY different ride than during the day! I know that DH and I enjoyed it a LOT more than DS. This time, there was no mistaking where the Yeti was. He was all lit up with red accent lights. He was quite frightening in the dark. It would be a whole level up in thrill if he actually swiped at you as you went past, red eyes flashing in the dark. DS wasn't quite as enthused about nighttime EE as daytime EE.

We were ready to get wet all over again! So were tons of other park goers! Everyone that bailed on EE must have headed over to KRR. The wait was insanely long. We headed over to Dinosaur.

I really wanted to ride Dinosaur. The first time, and only other time we rode it, I watched DS more than the ride. The posted time was 40 minutes. Since I was the only one that really wanted to ride, it seemed to not be good timing. We headed over to a ride that we all could ride. Primeval Whirl.

When DS first saw this ride two years ago, he thought it looked AWESOME and he couldn't wait to be tall enough to ride it.

641.jpg

642.jpg

DH thought it looked puke-a-lious. He doesn't do so well on things like tea cups.

643.jpg

The ride is not as vomit inducing as you might expect. Certainly no where near the calibre of the tea cups. In fact, it's quite jerky as there are points along the decent where the breaks fiercely engage to slow your downhill and spinning action. DH didn't care for this ride. DS thought it was a blast. I just wished they didn't repeatedly hit the breaks.

We hurried DS through the enticing booths and carnaval games and back over to Asia to see how the line at KRR had progressed. Hopefully diminishing. Oh yes. It had diminished alright. To nothing. The ride was shut down with technical difficulties.

We headed back to EE. Still 30 minute wait time. We hopped in. DH was pumped to ride it again. DS, not so much. This time DS rode with me. DH had the single rider for company. DS tucked his head down and didn't really watch the ride this time around. It was getting too late. DS didn't want to see the Yeti so close to bedtime. It was just 15 minutes to the other side of the ride.

I knew that we couldn't end the night on this note. We hurried back over to PW. DH sat this one out while DS and I rode.

DS had had some time to think. He was remembering the badges that we had seen in the EE shop earlier this morning. These are laminated momentoes attached to a lanyard. We had gotten a similar souvenir on our first visit from Buzz Lightyear with the rank DS had achieved when he got an exceptionally high score. DS thought he would like us all to get badges for EE.

OK Sweetie.

We headed back over to EE. I took these photos along the way.

652.jpg

653.jpg

The park was shutting down. Check out DH and DS in the empty path.

654.jpg

656.jpg

The gift shop at EE was still open. DH and DS headed straight over to the badges. I took a pic.

657.jpg

As befitting our perceived rolls on our expedition, we each picked out our Summit Team positions. DH got Lead Climber. DS got Guide. I got Sherpa.

658.jpg

(Due to picture limitations, the story of our AK PM EMH will be continued in another post.)

Oh man...go back and take some more pics in the EE line! I want to see if my group is in there somewhere!

We left the shop. There was NO ONE around. I mean. AK was shutting down. We were deep in the park and felt like we were the only ones left in it. What a sweet deal! This was one of the things that I had been looking forward to. AK at night. Since the park closes early on most days, it felt like it was a special opportunity.

I told DH and DS to stand in front of the EE display for a picture. A CM kindly offered to take a pic of all of us.

659.jpg

Little did I realize at the time that this kindly CM was our unofficial escort out of the park. She followed along behind us like a sheep dog herding the strays back on course. She stayed a good distance behind us. She picked up a fellow CM along the way. We observed that whenever we stopped to take pictures or what not, they would stop. When we walked, they walked. They weren't pushy by any means. But I'm quite sure that if we had turned around and started heading in a direction contrary to the exit, we would have been herded back on path.

Meanwhile, I'm not one to pushed around. So it's well that we didn't feel pressured, or I might have gotten a bit stubborn. I'm one of THOSE people. You think you are going to pass me on the right? No. You won't. I WILL speed up to make it impossible for you to fit in front of me. I'm so sorry that you dislike the two second interval that I regularly leave between me and the car in front. I AM going the same speed. Getting in front of me won't make you get there ANY faster. And in fact, I will be highly amused as you continually speed up in the slow lane, only to be fouled by the semi-truck, U-haul rental, or boat towing V8 that prevents you from squeezing into that vacant spot in front of me. And just to be SURE that you are fouled, I might decrease that two second interval until another huge line of cars on the right will totally prevent you from another attempt at an illegal pass.

As it was, the two CMs were quite chatty with one another. So we felt free to soak up the atmosphere of AK at night sans any other park guest in plain sight. Here's is our pictorial journey to the front:

666.jpg

As we came into the area where the iconic tree first comes into full view, we finally came across other park attendees. We discovered that although we were among the last in the park, we were not THE last in the park. As I was trying to take pictures of the tree, another kindly CM offered to take a picture of my family. He didn't give any warning for WHEN he would take it, so we aren't quite in full smile.

668.jpg

669.jpg

And here we are, going back through the pathways just inside the entrance of AK. The Oasis area. It was like coming full circle to be exiting a virtually empty AK on the day where we had entered a virtually empty AK.

670.jpg

671.jpg

The shuttle tram had long since stopped running, though we really didn't need it as we were parked so close to the entrance. Finding our car was easy business as well. We could walk a straight path toward it given the absense of any other vehicles in the lot. In fact, there were only seven other cars still in the lot. We know, because we counted them.

We were quite congratulating ourselves for closing yet another park down. We were quite weary. DH and I were especially concerned for the little pair of legs keeping pace with our longer ones all day. On the way back to the resort, we decided that DS and I would be dropped off under the porte cochere at WL. DH would then hop over to self park our car. He didn't want me to be alone parking the car.

DS and I entered into a quiet lobby. Few guests were about. We decided to find some comfy seating to wait for DH.

Here we noticed that several guests were passing by with cups of ice cream. It looked extremely tasty. DS and I discussed how very much we would enjoy eating some ourselves. As I asked a guest if the Roaring Fork were still open, I was informed that they were getting ready to shut down. DS and I were hoping that DH would hurry so we could get there before they fully closed.

The Roaring Fork closes at midnight. We managed to cross it's threshold with about one minute to spare. Another kindly CM graciously opted to not close the doors in our face. Instead, she smiled a huge smile, as if she could see how desparately we all wanted a late night treat. For here again, we found ourselves still awake about 7 hours past our dinner.

We took our ice creams back to the room. Therein, we lounged on the beds, snacking away at our room supplies, DH and I enjoying some beer, and watching the Spectacular Spiderman.

I should add here that we travel with a self filtering water pitcher. It used to be our sole source of drinking water at home, before we purchased our current residence and our current fridge which has an in-door water dispenser for filtered water. We saved the pitcher to use for travels. We keep our ice bucket filled and don't bother to keep the pitcher in the fridge. Toward drinking this water, our refillable mugs were very handy.

DS was comfy in bed and falling asleep. DH and I decided to partake of another beer on the balcony, giving DS a chance to fully fall asleep, and giving us a chance to enjoy a private moment.

We didn't linger. We were tired.

The original plan for the following day involved getting to Epcot for rope drop. I decided that this was entirely unnecessary after all. I hadn't planned whether or not we would take a midday break from Epcot. Our two ADRs, 11:55 AM lunch at Akershus and 8:00 PM at Chefs, were in Epcot. I didn't know if we would be able to find rest in the park, or if we would like to leave. It was PM EMH at Epcot that day.

So before bed, I determined that we wouldn't take a midday break, because we wouldn't be at the park so very early.

DH and I turned in for the night. No alarm. Black out curtains pulled tight. I figured we would awaken in enough time to get to our ADR even without an alarm.

I love reading TR's and DR's and mostly read (or is that called lurking!) but don't comment, but I wanted to let you know that I really am enjoying your TR. Keep it coming!

Thank you so much for posting! I really appreciate the feedback! It's so nice to know that people are enjoying the read.:goodvibes

Oh man...go back and take some more pics in the EE line! I want to see if my group is in there somewhere!

I looked through my other pics and I didn't see you anywhere. A lot of them didn't come out. Also, after taking a couple of "atmosphere" shots of AK at night, I heard people complaining a bit that I was blinding them with my flash. So I was avoiding too many shots of people!:rotfl:

I know you rode EE a couple of times that night. Were you in line when it was having technical difficulties?

YAY! Another update!

Ms. Rabbit, I sound the same everytime I post (I guess I'm just not that creative these days...) BUT - love you family, love your writing style, and I LOVE the things you notice! (The cm's "pacing" you has you left the park, etc.)

SCORE on the skirt! I can't wait to see it!

Clamoring for more -

Mrs. Spratt!

This sounds like such a fun evening. Last time we were at Disney our kids were so little that we were back and the resort and in bed by 9:00. I can't wait to experience some of the parks at night this time!! It just looks so different and definitely magical .

AK looks totally different at night! We have never been there after dark so that was really fun to see all of your pictures with the lighting on. Can't wait for your next update!

Those were just two awesome posts for your great day at the AK!! I still can't believe you got there after 4 hours of sleep!!! ACK! But clearly you were none the wear for it, after breakfast, what luck with the characters!!! And the nap that helped restore everyone clearly made a difference! After Jiko certainly was a big plus to look forward too!!!! How did DS do there? I wondered how kids would do there... :goodvibes AK at night, I never thought to do it, but I think you have convinced me! Early morning ADR and late night strolling! Got it! :thumbsup2 It does just look like you had so much fun...

Glad you slept in and took advantage of a late morning the next day! You can definitely do that at Epcot or AK, I think, and still do so much!

Looking forward to your Epcot day!!

Yeah, but it didn't last for very long I remember!

EE had had technical difficulties earlier in the day too. But it was really, REALLY short. The ride stopped for just a few minutes. I would put it down as another prone to break downs. Like TT.

Your complements always make me smile. :goodvibes

I LOVE my skirt. So much so that I am going to make a pattern based on it to sew myself some more. Now that I know all the different ways to wear it, I definitely would like a shorter one too.:thumbsup2

The last time we were at WDW we were generally in bed much earlier. We went the week before school started and couldn't afford to not be in a good sleeping pattern. We needed a good transition for starting the school year. Normally, that's our game plan, early up, beat the crowds, relax at the resort and get some sleep. I planned for the same thing this trip, but things just happened differently! I do love the parks at night.

When I read this I had to smile. This sounds exactly like me! Don't know why I have a hard time buying stuff for myself, I just do. Glad to know that it is not just me. :confused3

My theory is that women often end up having to buy things they HAVE to. Like maternity clothes, baby things, household things, etc etc. You end up doing so much shopping for the HAVE to that you can't quite hang on to the WANT to.

AK at night IS a different park. I was so glad to be able to see. It was a real treat to be able to soak it all in without people too.

Those were just two awesome posts for your great day at the AK!! I still can't believe you got there after 4 hours of sleep!!! ACK! I know. Right? It was like being in college! Stay up late. Deal with it. Make it to your 8:30 AM class and take a nap after! DH and I think that if you can make yourself do it for the things that you feel you HAVE to, like class, and work, you should be able to do it for the things you WANT to! The fun things!

There's another thread that I saw a link to. Maybe I'll go find it. There are some FABULOUS AK night pictures there. OK. I gotta find the link.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1791010

These are taken with a serious camera on a tripod. There are AMAZING. They put my point and shoot pictures to shame.:upsidedow

Definitely check out AK at night.:thumbsup2

Your AK sounds like fun. I've neve seen it at night either. It looks so pretty. Some day i will. LOL!

So glad to see you guys had a good time at Animal Kingdom's evening EMH. We're planning on doing this during our trip in December. Unfortunately, the park will probably close at 5:00, which means we can only stay until 8:00---but that's alright, we plan to take advantage of being in the AK area and have dinner at Jiko right after. Sounds like a fair trade off to me! :thumbsup2

Epcot is the home of DS's favorite ride. Test Track. I've really thought long and hard on this one. What is the appeal of this ride? I think I've nailed it for DS. It's a bit of thrill, with NO scare factor. It has a bit of stink. All boys LOVE a bit of stink. Or it that just MY boys? TT is a smorgasbord of all the elements, rolled into a somewhat satisfying length of experience.

Epcot is also home to one of MY favorite rides. Soarin'. California will always have a place in my heart. Images of the state are woven throughout my childhood. Fortunately, my childhood and early years were largely happy ones and so having these memories called to mind is very pleasant.

I hadn't been on vacation in years. DS was three-years old and I had spent the night away from him less than five times. My parents conspired to take me on a mini-vacation that we coordinated with a business trip DH HAD to take. For three blissful days, it was Mom and Dad and me all over again. Did I mention I'm an only child? Then DH and DS arrived for full on family fun.

Mom sprang for a day at the spa. She picked out all my treatments. One was a seaweed body wrap. As I lay there, the technician spreading pungent seaweed puree on my skin, I started crying. I hadn't been to the ocean in so long! It's hard to get to the ocean when you've spent 7 years living in the middle of the continental US. Colorado and Kansas. They say that smell is the most closely related sense to memory. I believe it. I was so nostalgic for my ocean. Not sandy beaches with warm water. No. That's not my ocean. My ocean is a rugged coast line with jagged rocks. Freezing cold water that makes your feet numb as you walk the wave line jumping stinky seaweed and collecting sea shells wearing sweatshirts to keep warm in the wind.

I had a similar experience the first time I rode Soarin'. It was our first trip to WDW. It was Spring Break. Lots of crowds. It was a short trip planned on two months notice. Our first Epcot day was an afternoon arrival after a morning in AK. It was PM EMH at Epcot. When we arrived, there were no FPs left for Soarin'. We determined to ride it during EMH. We thought to head over there right after Illuminations. We did. Along with everyone else attending Epcot.

90 minute wait.

What to do? It seemed like such a waste of our evening. DH and I stood in front of the queue entrance debating. A nice young man CM approached us. How were we doing? Were we going to ride Soarin'?

Well. We really want to but we don't know that it's the best thing to do right now. DS and all.

What would you say if I could get you on the next Soarin' ride?

Are you serious?

This nice young man lead us into Soarin' through the exit area. My family and several others were treated to a Dream Ride on Soarin'. It was AMAZING. I felt so blessed. As we sat and watched the images of my birth state, memories of family and friends flooded me. I smelled the orange blossoms and thought of my Great Grandma. The pines. The rugged coastline. Half Dome. It wasn't just a thrill ride, it was an emotional rollercoaster. I cried. Not bawling, uncontrolable sobbing. Just the tightening of the throat. The pinpricks in the eyes. The welling up and spilling over of small salty droplets.

We didn't get to ride it on our second trip to WDW.

We were going to ride it on THIS trip. It was my MUST DO!!

In the original plan, we were present at Epcot at ROPE DROP. We would get our Soarin' and TT rides in first thing. Do some KP, another top priority. And generally wander around amusing ourselves having satisfied our ride urges earlier.

The reality was that at the time of rope drop, my family was snoozing away under the breeze of a whirring ceiling fan deep in the dark of black out curtains.

It was cuddle time.

It was a relaxing morning. In bed. Watching cartoons and/or soccer.

The men were munchy. DH couldn't wait for our 11:55 AM ADR at Akershus to eat. He took the refillable mugs to Roaring Fork and got a couple pastries for DS and him. We had a chill out morning.

The big debate of the morning was whether or not we should drive to Epcot. Thus far, we had been driving ourselves around WDW. A first for us. In the past, we flew and relied solely on WDW transportation. DH had to admit that he was enjoying the car ride. He didn't have especially fond memories of the buses. We decided that we would just drive ourselves to Epcot today.

We left WL at 11:20 AM.

It was a piece of cake to get to Epcot and park. The tram was waiting for us. We hopped on it and in no time at all, we were using the facilities at Epcot!

We saw a couple characters doing meet and greets. Most notably, Daisy. The lines were quite long. We were feeling pretty special because we already met Daisy at Tusker House. We headed to the Land to get FPs for Soarin'. While DH and DS waited in the shade, I was the runner. Return time in the 6 o'clock hour. FPs in hand, I was happy.

We hurried over to Norway for some grub. We were ready for a good meal.

For a detailed description of our dining experience at Akershus, read here, if you haven't already.

While we were waiting to be seated, I passed the time with picture taking.

I dragged DS over to the waterfall.

Putting it simply (something I AM capable of despite my love of words and detail), we loved Akershus.

These didn't make the cut for a limited 25 per post pic in my dining review:

I appreciated the extra special attention Aurora gave to DS. She wasn't in a hurry at all. We have never met her before. I had to have pic.

I have to say. I loved Ariel. She was such a tomboy in a princess dress. So in character. She and me. We could hang out. I had to have a pic with her too.

I didn't want to lug the photo from our meal all over Epcot. I headed over to the gift shop in Norway to arrange to have it sent back to the resort. We then spent some time exploring the store. In the words of my father, they're pretty proud of their stuff in that Norwegian shop!

They had the most beautiful sweaters in there. If we still lived in Colorado, I'd be jonesing for one BIG time. But beautifully designed wool sweaters and Houston don't really go together. We are headed to Pagosa Springs for Christmas this year. If it ever turns out that we can do regular snowboarding vacations, which would fill DH with indescribable joy, I would definitely invest, yes INVEST, in one of these sweaters. I like useful souvenirs. I hate clutter.

The big troll in the shop cracks me up. I'm not familiar with all the lore that surrounds the Norway trolls.

There were several books that could enlighten me in the store. But generally, I'm a library girl. I dream of a ROOM in my house called the LIBRARY. I want floor to ceiling shelves and a rolling ladder. It might be too much to ask for a two-story room ala Henry Higgins of My Fair Lady fame, but that would be the ultimate. THEN I will collect books. Meanwhile, my collection is limited. I move too much. Books are heavy.

We left the shop to find the Kim Possible mission place. We were all really excited to do this. We are big time KP fans! BIG TIME!! Three and four year old DS used to dress up as KP. No comments please. DH would have to be Ron. He would carry a Chewbacca kid meal toy from Burger King, which was Rufus. And I would be Shego. We played a glorified version of hide and seek where I would hide and DS and DH would have to find me. Then I would RUN through the house and we would battle battle battle. They would lock me up and then go off to fight more bad guys. Of course, I would escape and they would have to find me all over again. Good times.

We were lovin the whole idea of the KP missions.

We found the KP outpost, a wagon, cart-like structure, with a couple CM dressed in KP uniforms. You use your KTTW to get a FP like ticket that has an appt time for starting your mission. Our time was 3:00 PM.

We went off to Future World in search of diversion until then.

Your AK sounds like fun. I've neve seen it at night either. It looks so pretty. Some day i will. LOL!

I hope you get to! Take your better camera. I can't remember what you got. I know you like taking pictures. The atmosphere is very secluded feeling. You don't feel like you are in the middle of a highly populated metro area.

:thumbsup2

Sounds like a GREAT plan to me. In a way, I would love to plan a trip where park hours would be shorter. It would take away the possibility of touring so late like we did on this one. It gets very tiring as the week goes by. After a day at AK you will be ready for Jiko! So tasty!

How do I manage to forget you are from the bay area? Beautiful imagery, Ms. Rabbit! And Galveston just doens't cut it, does it....

I think one of the reasons I enjoy your TR so much is that you aren't afraid to mention that you are blessed - it is wonderful to see someone else that takes the time to truly "be," where ever you are, and note the little things that make life wonderful. AND it makes it far easier for the Universe to conspire ON YOUR BEHALF istead of against it - and, voila - you are on Soarin'!

Wish I had that attitudde - I hate clutter, but I LOVE STUFF!

This, too is my dream - the rolling ladder! I actually saw a spread in Architectual Digest (or something....) where they had a library of cookbooks on the SECOND STORY OF THEIR KITCHEN. WIth a rolling ladder. It was just amazing!

And you question that I am learning about quality parenting from you?QUOTE]

Can't wait for more!

Okay clearly I missed out on something, b/c I didn't even know Kim Possible existed until I heard about this new attraction at EPCOT. Seriously -- how did I miss that?? I have to go learn more about her, b/c I must have missed the initial window of opportunity. And here you are staging your own KP missions before Disney had ever thought of it!

Can't wait to see how it all goes today! SOARIN' Oh I get you there, it is such a neat ride for so many reasons... This past November when we somewhat "snuck" our DS (who was 3 at the time) on the ride, I was just amazed at the sheer delight of his face. I started tearing up just watching him! He was barely 40" in sneakers, but he is built like a rock, so we managed to deflect the focus of the CMs to get him on a couple times!! ;) I think it is one of the best rides and memories for WDW. I can't wait to hear how your DS enjoys it!! :goodvibes

hmmmm. NO. I remember visiting TX in about 4th or 5th grade. My Dad took us down to the beach and we DROVE on it!:scared1: I couldn't believe it! Growing up in CA? Seriously. I was in totally shock. I still feel guilt throwing away glass. I've had to get over it because I just can't deal and get it to a recycling place. But still. It hurts when the salsa jar hits the trash.:sad2:

I am blessed. And I'm always hopeful. And I believe that what I hope for is possible. Faith is the substance of things HOPED for.

And here I thought we were the only ones to say that.

:lmao:

Wish I had that attitudde - I hate clutter, but I LOVE STUFF!

I dream of taking all my stuff and throwing it away... :rolleyes1 I regularly go through and lighten the load!

:cloud9::cloud9::love::love:

I can only imagine. I wish I had seen that. I LOVE cookbooks!

And you question that I am learning about quality parenting from you?

You gotta play...kids help keep the kid in you alive!

 You didn't KNOW KP!!!:scared1:

So DS was 3ish, we're talking 2004? And before, likely...but ABC used to have the BEST Saturday morning cartoons! The jingle...One. Saturday morning. And KP was on ABC!! I totally miss her. I don't know WHY she went out of style that they took her away.:sad2:

The humor in these cartoons are right up our alley. You have to turn your kids on to the things that you can handle. There are lots of ridiculous children's shows that I couldn't STAND. What was that thing with the weirdness on PBS? Oh. I can only remember that one was called Po. Oh my! Turn it off! Turn it off! KP was a step up for us in terms of cartoon watching.

SOOO funny. We walked around immitating the little ring of KP's Kimmunicator all the time. Doo Doo DOO Doo. And singing the theme song. Gotta have a catchy theme song.

We kept the love alive with the chapter books. You should check those out. We started reading them together. Like Kindergarten year. It helped when DS was ready for a more involved story. He didn't read them. We read them to him, but he loved em.

And we rented the movies from the library. It was the famed white suit that DS would always put ON to battle.

Every so often, DH would have to do Doctor Draken, yelling SHEEEEGO! Oh. So funny.

I meant to post these before...so I will now...big KP fans...

Here we are during Spring Break 2007...notice the JACKETS!

Your DS sounds like mine. Solid. Always has been. I was lifting his cousin, who is 9 months older, back in the day of being toddlers. I braced myself to heave him up and just about hit his head on the ceiling!:rotfl2: SO not built like my boy.

Your son sounds like he has such a wonderful imagination. That is such a great thing, and there are a lot of kids that I couldn't say that about, sadly. I love your description of Soarin'. I was right there with you the whole time.
