DH and I like totaly different firmness. I like soft and he likes rock hard.

Right now we sleep in different rooms so it's not an issue (I sleep in our bedroom at night and DH sleeps in the basement during the day, he's 3rd shift). But he might be going to 2nd shift next year and anyway, DH is tired of the basement. So once our DD moves from my room to her nursery in a week or two (and all her stuff goes with her) we'll be looking at getting a new matress. My current one is 10+ years old and is only a full, we'd be looking for a king.

So since we like totally different types of mattresses, and neither of us can sleep well on the other's prefered type, the Sleep Number seems to be our best bet, since each side can be adjusted independent of the other.

But they have 5 different models at all different price points. I don't mind spending more for something we'll get more value out of, but I don't want to spend $2k on a mattress when we could have spent $1200 and been just as happy, you know?

So if anyone has a Sleep Number, or knows a lot about them....I'm all ears! :listen:

I worked in the corporate office for nearly 3?yrs and have owned a bed for 10+. My one bit of advice is go higher than lower. We have the old 7000 series, not sure what that is in relation to the new models. The other thing to keep in mind is that there are TWO seperate air chambers in the bed so sleeping next to each other can be cumbersome if your numbers are way off from each other. Skip the foundation and just go with a regular box spring as you really just need a firm box to set the mattress on. Good luck

We just bought a P5 on June 29 and have been sleeping on it since July 5. I could not believe everything was delivered in less than a week. We debated between the P4 and the P5 and I read some of the reviews online. We went with the P5 because of the extra foam padding. I contemplated going with a P3 and then buying a cheap memory foam but in the end we just went with the P5. We lucked out when we bought because it was the end of their quarter so we got an $100 off and free shipping. We did assemble everything on our own, it took 3 hours but worth it in the end because we got the mattress sooner. Can you wait until the end of this quarter to see if a good offer comes up again? I am happy to say after 4 nights of sleeping on the sleep number my back did not hurt this morning.

We have a P5 too......love it! We have owed ours for over a year.
I'd look out for special offers usually around holidays.......sometimes we get sent coupons to give to friends/family.
QVC has them too from time to time.

when we bought ours I don't remember there being that many choices??? We went with the middle option and LOVE it. We have had it for 5 years now and it is great!

What we did was to call the 1-800 # directly and they sold us a brand new "last years model" at a huge discount.

It ships in a huge box and when we opened it my husband and I were freaked out. It is strange that you construct it yourself :)

My brother & wife have had one for 12 years and absolutely love it. They both had back problems and it has taken care of that for them. They are very satisfied. The newer ones seem to have more selections for toppers, so should be even more comfortable.
We were debating one at the same time, but decided to go with the Temperpedic because of Fibromyalgia issues, and we are equally happy with ours - of course we did not have the issue that you have with you & dh liking such different firmness.
Much luck on your decision - it's not something to buy lightly, as they are all so expensive and meant to last for many years. :goodvibes
Also, contrary to what they would like you to believe in the stores, you cannot tell how a mattress will be for you in 5 min. of laying on one :confused3
I really hate buying new mattresses :(
