I have been wanting to try Skipper Canteen for years. I finally made a reservation pre MNSSHP but now I’m doubting my decision. The rest of my family are picky eaters. My husband could get by with steak but my kids, unfortunately, are very basic - pasta, hot dogs, chicken fingers. It will annoy me if we pay a lot for meals no one eats. Has anyone with picky eaters gone to Skipper Canteen and managed to find something to eat? Or should I just cancel? Thanks!!

If they're young enough for the kid's menu, they have mac n cheese or chicken tenders. If not, the pork or chicken with sauce on the side would be pretty basic.

My kids ate there without a problem..i think they got the kids steak or the mac and cheese.

Culinarily it reminds me of PF Changs, if that helps set the scene.

The "tastes like chicken" on the adult menu is very basic also the Mess Hall fried rice with shrimp app can be made into an entree and is very much like your local Chinese restaurant fried rice. While not for everyone in your group the Cachapas app is really good as is the Char Siu pork. I would look at the menu and ask your family what they would like to eat. If nothing is appealing then you have your answer.

As above Disney has something for everyone in every park. Look at the menus…. Because X Y and Z say this is amazing does not mean it is. There will always be dislike at any.
My son will eat anything from frogs legs to any name and possibly unnamed fish to anything in between. He does not like cheese on most things however including sometimes pizza 🤷‍♂️. My wife will only eat scallops or shrimp as far as seafood. They are relatively easy to please but anything real Japanese my wife will sit out… Norwegian cruise line has Food Republic had 2 great lunches there with my son my wife was fine with lunch alone.
For the record skipper canteen does not appeal to me just don’t like …. Covered in something.

In my experience, most all restaurants at Disney with more adventurous menus have options that are on the safe side, or can be altered slightly to enter the safe zone. I have a brother that has always been an extremely picky eater (though he's starting to branch out a bit!) and he's been to all three AKL restaurants and been able to find something he could eat, and those are generally considered more adventurous than Skipper Canteen. Looking at the menu, I'd say especially if your kids are kids' menu age, you'll be fine. But even if not I think there are options that would work.
However, since menus are available on the website, maybe sit down with your family and let them take a look.

I went once.
Enjoyed the atmosphere but I'm a picky eater and what I had was just ok and then they took it off the menu so I won't be going back.
Even the desserts were nothing I liked.

Good to hear your opinion. We’ve never been even tho JC is my husband’s favorite ride & we’d live the atmosphere. Husband is a plain steak & potatoes person. So yes, they have steak, but the spices & sides are unappealing. I’m not even a fussy eater but anything that looks appealing to me is spicy or has peppers, which I can’t do.

We have allergies to nightshades (so tomatoes & peppers are out) and we eat at Skippers every visit. We get the chicken without the glaze along with white rice and plain veggie (whatever they - broccoli or string beans).

They can’t do the pork plain because it gets shipped in pre marinated.

Thanks all! I already had them look at the menu, but I wasn’t sure if there was something there that looked adventurous but was actually kind of boring😆. Knowing that you can ask for the chicken without the glaze, and just get white rice is helpful.

If your family will eat pork tenderloin, the pork was really tender and delicious. I have to eat low fat and not spicy, and this was a great choice fr me

Sadly, this restaurant has moved away from the unique dishes to more of the "mass dishes". There are a few interesting dishes still on the menu, but it has been toned down a lot from when it opened.

The last time we went - we had bad service, and my daughter's steak was well done when we had ordered medium. The second steak came out medium well to well done. She ate it anyway, because at this point it had been over an hour. This was also the only restaurant that nickel and dimed me for my child eating off the kids menu at age 12 (she doesn't eat a lot, has food issues, etc.)

For these reasons, we won't be back. I used to love it. YMMV, though.
