Note that I have not been to the one at Disney yet so there are no comparisons. Perhaps it was because of the time of year, or because most folks knew of what to expect, the luau was nearly empty, with about 10 of their 50 tables of 8 filled.
The first thing to keep in mind is that the entire show is indoors, inside one of their other restaurants. This was very much not a good sign. Also, included free with the show was your choice of either one lemonade, one mai tai, or one Michelob Ultra. Because I wanted neither lemonade nor water, I opted for the mai tai, which came in a very small cup, another warning sign.
We are seated for the show and it starts off with a welcome by the prince and princess or whatever they were, followed by a fire breather. Neat act, but I had just seen it done at the Festival of the Lion King, so it was not so impressive. Later on there was more dancing by their cast of 5 male and 5 female dancers and the whole thing reeked of drama club dropouts. They had a pole tossing dance that they completely failed to do without dropping, and perhaps this will get me flamed, but seeing one of the five male dancers was about as Polynesian as I was (as in not), I was less impressed.
The musicians that played during the show were pleasant and was the highlight of the night, two on guitars and one on drum.
The food was passably decent, consisting of family style ribs, chicken, mahi mahi, rice, and vegetables and then some cream thing for dessert that I passed on.
Between the indoor seating, the amateur acts, and the okay food, it is difficult to recommend this to anyone and you are better off saving your money.
