Single rider line

"No, I'm fine where I am" is a totally acceptable answer. It's the one I give when I arrive 30 minutes early for a movie and then am asked to move by someone who arrives when the trailers are starting.

Yeah, I didn't handle it well, for reasons related to me using the handicapped loading area alone in the first place. Unfortunately, sometimes the world happens too fast for me, and I'm left grumbling about how things shake out afterwards. As such things go, it was a minor grumble, but I'm sticking with my opinion that it isn't mannerly to be demanding of anything not relevant to safety when you're a single rider.

Oh they definitely do this. One particular crowded spring break day the CM running GRR line was mismanaging it. By mismanaging it I mean, the single rider line was well up the stairs and the regular line was over an hour. And yet the lady kept leaving a minimum of one seat open. The raft I was on in fact had two seats open. :confused3 Couldn't figure that one out. Maybe she was new? Anyways point is the CMs up front had to keep closing the single rider line because she wasn't use it properly and causing the line to back up. So yeah they definitely close the Single Rider line.

We've seen mismanagement at Screamin', too. I can't even describe how bad we've experienced it two times. Awful. Second time I was in the line as well and we had to sternly get the CM's attention (no yelling, of course no yelling, but in a carrying and firm voice like we're dog trainers or onstage) so they knew there were people that had been waiting FAR longer than the normal-line people they were seating at that point.

OK, I have question. We'll be there in July with some friends that have an 8 year old boy and a 9 year old girl. I've been doing lots of reading and planning with Ridemax and I feel like if we want to do RSR more than once or twice per day we are going to have to use SR. My boys are 15 & 14 so I'm fine with SR. So my question is, at the end of the ride does it kick you out into an area swarmed with people? These friends have never been to DLR or any theme park. We were there in Dec. 2011, pre CL, So I haven't seen it.

Would it work to have the parents in front in the single rider line, then the little kids, then my boys? That way they are never alone in line or at the end? Can you hang around and wait at the end? I just don't know what it looks like at the end. I'm hoping this will work because the wait times, even late at night, freak me out! Like 75 minutes at 10:30pm. And the 8 year old boys LOVES Cars so he's going to want to do it often. Advice please! Thanks!

We'll be there for 4.5 days with park hoppers but don't have EE because we are able to buy our ticket on a Navy base where we live (with a significant discount.) We're civilians though.

Thanks again! :)

The exit is stairs, go past the photopass area (where you claim your ride photo), and on down the path which leads out of the ride area and dumps you basically at the Stanley statue. The path is wide and you can stop and look around at just about any point along it.

We have one child, and we sandwich him between us, though like another poster said doesn't necessarily mean he'll be on in between our vehicles. Seating is funny and vehicles are nearly constantly going, so you just never know. He likes to wait at the photopass area, which actually makes sense because we've had Photopass Plus when we've gone, and we need to get his ride vehicle's picture's number anyway. I thought he would want to wait along the path, but he likes that area, off to the side, staying out of other people's way.

But I've told him that if he ever wants to move along, he can just wait near Stanley, but not in the way of people taking pictures of Stanley.

Isn't Single Riders for Single Riders? Why are families getting in this line? Would you like your 8 year old sitting next to......

A family is made up of single humans. As long as the family doesn't mind sitting separate from each other, and knows that they will almost certainly be doing so, there is no problem whatsoever with a family getting into the line.

I don't mind my 8 year old sitting next to other people enjoying rides which are constantly and continuously monitored with videocameras EVERYWHERE, especially in rides where there are other people around all the time, and everyone is restrained in their seats.

He's not going on a ride like Screamin' solo yet, because I would worry about his fear level in case of a ride stop and evacuation from it. But something like the Racers I know with 100% certainty that he would be fine with an evacuation.

I definitely agree with your opinion. SR line is to fill in spaces left by groups that went through the normal or FP line (which helps out the entire line by sending cars through full which means faster overall). You are literally filling in the empty spots, so you should take that empty spot.

I don't think putting a single speeds up the regular line, maybe you can explain it so I get it?

I'm not bumbershoot, but it helps in this way:

If there were no single rider line, then everyone - both groups and singles - wait in one big line. Let's say the car holds six people. There's a family of 3 and a family of 2. The next group in line is a group of 3, and maybe a few people back there is someone riding alone, but they aren't next. They will load the car with the family of 3 and the family of 2 - so only 5 people in the car. Since the single riding person wasn't next in line, they aren't called and the vehicle is sent through the ride with an empty seat.

If there IS a single rider line, they will load the family of 3, load the family of 2, and then pluck one person from the single rider line to fill that empty seat. There is no empty seat. You are moving more people total through the line per hour. Make sense? There are no wasted spaces. Every seat is utilized, improving overall efficiency.

I think that did it

I was a little apprehensive about trying the SR line for RSR with my 10 & 16 year old daughters. But when we saw the stand-by line was 90 minutes & the SR line was 10 minutes, we decided to give it a try. It was totally awesome!! We ended up riding RSR 7 times in 3 days using the SR line every time, and we were always either in the same car or in the cars racing each other every time we rode it. A bonus is that it's fun being in different cars and racing against the other members of your party. Definitely try the SR line for RSR!

If that was exactly how it worked it would be great, but I have personally seen that is not always the case. I have watched people in the SR line ride together, I have also witnessed them riding by themselves in a car. If the SR line was truly used by Single Riders than your premise would be correct, but since so many "groups" are going into the SR line I feel it does slow everything down, as the CM's are doing their best to keep both lines flowing.

I watched a CM purposely split single riders up they knew were together yesterday on Screamin, he seemed to be making point that you do not ride together in that line.

Then that's the fault on the CM allowing that.

If you are willing to go single rider it shouldn't matter if you are standing with people you know. I mean, really, how many people go to DLR completely alone? Compared to groups and familes? If you are ok with not being in the same car, then they should just load you up. My only concern is at the end for younger kids.

We went yesterday (me, 62 my two grand daughters age 10) and used SRL for the first time. It was fabulous! They went on matterhorn 6 times in a row. A wait of about 3 minutes as opposed to 25. We discovered it too late to go back to CA and use it on Radiator Springs. On rides like the matterhorn they were almost always in the same car, but really it didn't matter. You don't sit next to each other anyway and who can talk when you are going. They went on Grizzly run over and over and were always seated together (just lucky), They said even if they weren't they didn't care, it was worth it. I can hardly wait until my next visit to use it on RSR as I have yet to go on it. Please keep this a secret. Does anyone know if Thunder mountain has single rider line also. Sorry I didn't read all 4 pages yet, I was too excited to share how much fun we had yesterday.

I completely understand....and I am move envious than anything as I am not willing to take the risk with my 4 year old DD, so I am just trying to level the playing field.

Per Disney rules, you have to be 7 to ride alone anyway.

Level what playing field? Kids under 7 can't ride alone anyway. Last week DD9 and I rode RSR single rider and it was great. As a family, the 3 of us rode together through normal line then DD and I immediately got in single rider line with a 9 minute wait. I told her where I would wait for her after ride and if I wasn't there then she was to wait there (where they show the ride photos). She was a little nervous but it went very smoothly and without a hitch. We didn't ride together, she was probably 2 or 3 cars behind me. Single rider isn't meant just for solo riders, it's to keep the lines moving by allowing people who are alone or don't mind riding alone to fill otherwise empty spots.

Since BTMRR is a bench seat with a shared bar they don't do Single Rider for it. Only for rides that have individual restraints.

Oh, I totally get it! I'm very over protective. Before our first trip in '11, I was losing sleep worrying about losing one of my girls! Once I was there, I was fine, and since I am overprotective, they were never more than two steps from me.

I doubt that I would allow my 7 year old child on sr. At this time, it's not a concern for me. Just some friends of ours with 8 & 9 year old kids. It will be totally up to them. I wouldn't dream of advising them. What I know for sure is that we all need to do the ride at least once to get a feel for where it lets you off.
