Single rider line

Single rider is wonderfull on RSR, but do talk to your kids/friends about the possiblity of being split up on exiting the ride, which happens if one of you are put in a car that drops off at the mobility limited area. This happened to my kid, and luckily someone saw her looking confused and directed her around the corner to the normal exit where I was waiting. :)

I was there with a friend last September. We did single rider several times, the wait was only about 30 minutes vs 90 to 120 in the regular line. Most of the times we did not end up in the same car. We just met where you get off.

I was once loading alone in the handicapped area of RSR (from standby). It was first thing in the morning, so there were no other people waiting for a car. They pulled 5 single riders to fill the car. It happened to be a family of 5 that lucked out and all got to ride together.

The best seat for me to get in and out of is the front, right-hand seat - it was just easier to get in and out. "Oh, do you mind if our kids ride in the front? They've never ridden before...." I ended up in the back, on the left. I was vaguely annoyed, because if I wanted to feel like a single rider (last pick of seats, in a car of people who chattered loudly all the way through the ride), I'd have gone through the single rider line.

Single riders get what they get, and ought not throw a fit. (And yes, I know that I could have spoken up. No one thing was unreasonable, it was just the combination that wasn't much fun.)

Is there an age limite on the single rider line? My 7 yo is tall enough to ride the ride, but I worry he will get into trouble during unloading if he ride by himself. Riding on same car but different row on RSR would work for us, but will tehy alow us to wait for the same car?

No, single rider rule is you get what is next.

Most folks in the SR line are actually groups who would prefer to be in the same car together. Asking them to go ahead of you and take the crappy assignments while you wait to ride together isn't going to go over well. Besides, there's generally not time to shuffle around like that.

As for age; Disney requires Single Riders be at least seven years old. But it's up to parents to determine whether their child is ready for the experience or not. Personally I think 7 is probably too young for most kids.

Now I imagine someone will pop in to say their 7 year old always uses SR and is completely comfortable with it. Note I said most, not all.

Realize SR's may end up waiting to load alone, riding with a car full of strangers, unloading on their own. The loading and/or unloading may take place in the accessible area, so away from the regular line. Worse case scenario, there could be a shut down where CM's have to walk people off the ride. Does that happen often? Of course not. But we have watched it happen more than once.

If any of the above sounds like it would be too much please re-think using the SR line.

If you really think he'll somehow get into trouble, then he's not ready to be a Single Rider.

My son is great with RSR's single rider line. But he's not going to go on Screamin' as a SR, because I am worried about if there's a ride stop or evacuation, and his levels of fear. He's not mature enough for that, so he'll go with a parent until I feel he is there.

Nope, you get what you get. However, if you have two adults, you can do what we do. We call it "pitcher, catcher" - get in single rider in the order adult, child, adult. The first adult is the catcher, the second adult is the pitcher. The pitcher rides after the child to ensure that they were successfully launched on the ride. The catcher rides first and meets the child at the end of the exit. For rides that don't have a combined single exit, we may meet at some relatively easy to locate central point, or we may have the catcher move to meet the child.

Before riding, we all visit the meeting point. "You go out through this gate and meet us at this bollard." Then into the single rider line.

This has worked for us for years. I move a little slowly, so before she was 7, on kids rides with minimal line (teacups in the morning, triceratops spin at WDW's AK, etc) we used to pitch and catch - I'd send her out the exit and another adult would catch, then take her through the queue for a re-ride.

These are really good advice!! SR line might not be for us at this time then. We will have to stick with Fastpass and take advantage of EMH to maximize our ride time. Thanks everyone.

Wow, when I started this thread oil definitely did not expect so many responses! Thanks for all the great info!

are there any rides that have single rider lines where doing the single rider (while you are at the park with your family) is about the same as riding with your family? let me explain...

at harry potter at universal in orlando, the forbidden journey ride has a single rider line. because of the way that ride vehicle is constructed, you cannot interact with those who ride with you. the harness stuff is all in the way. at most, i was able to put my hand on my daughter's knee to reassure her, but i could not see her face or hold her hand. so basically, doing single rider is almost no different than riding with your group when you ride forbidden journey.

any rides at DLR like that? it's kinda nice to know that you are giving up very little (and gaining a very short wait time) when you do single rider on forbidden journey.

Ehhh. It's a stretch lol.

However California Screamin' does have the over-the-shoulder restraints, so you're not missing really seeing/touching your family, just missing the fun of screaming with them side by side lol. Splash Mountain also - it's single-file in the log so if you're single rider, you're not missing sitting next to each other, but you're not able to scream/point things out during the ride obviously if you're riding alone.

I know that at WDW sometimes the CM suspends the single rider line if it gets too long. It is usually just temporary but it can take an hour or so before the single rider line re-opens.

Anyone know if this happens at DLR as well?

Oh they definitely do this. One particular crowded spring break day the CM running GRR line was mismanaging it. By mismanaging it I mean, the single rider line was well up the stairs and the regular line was over an hour. And yet the lady kept leaving a minimum of one seat open. The raft I was on in fact had two seats open. :confused3 Couldn't figure that one out. Maybe she was new? Anyways point is the CMs up front had to keep closing the single rider line because she wasn't use it properly and causing the line to back up. So yeah they definitely close the Single Rider line.

Yes, the CM in charge of boarding really wields all the power when it comes to the pace of SRL. I once waited in the SRL for Splash for almost 30 minutes (would have been faster to get a FP) because in front of me were several obnoxious teenagers hooting, hollering, asking the CM if they could sit together even though they were in the SRL, etc. The CM was so visibly annoyed that she chose to ignore the SRL and not let them board as "punishment", even though it was also punishing me and those waiting in SRL behind me.

OK, I have question. We'll be there in July with some friends that have an 8 year old boy and a 9 year old girl. I've been doing lots of reading and planning with Ridemax and I feel like if we want to do RSR more than once or twice per day we are going to have to use SR. My boys are 15 & 14 so I'm fine with SR. So my question is, at the end of the ride does it kick you out into an area swarmed with people? These friends have never been to DLR or any theme park. We were there in Dec. 2011, pre CL, So I haven't seen it.

Would it work to have the parents in front in the single rider line, then the little kids, then my boys? That way they are never alone in line or at the end? Can you hang around and wait at the end? I just don't know what it looks like at the end. I'm hoping this will work because the wait times, even late at night, freak me out! Like 75 minutes at 10:30pm. And the 8 year old boys LOVES Cars so he's going to want to do it often. Advice please! Thanks!

We'll be there for 4.5 days with park hoppers but don't have EE because we are able to buy our ticket on a Navy base where we live (with a significant discount.) We're civilians though.

Thanks again! :)

Radiator Springs Racers is kind of funny in the way they load you on the cars. I was in front of my nephews, but they ended up in a car ahead of me. I just had them wait for me at the exit. You can also tell the other members of the party to wait at the screens where they show the pictures of you in the cars. It's doable.

Thank you Mary Jo! I'm getting a little stressed about RSR. Ultimately, it will be up to the parents of the children. In addition to my older boys I also have dd6 & dd4 so I won't ever be using SR. My plan was to take my dd's to something different while the others are doing CL with SR and meet up later.

I'm a planner. I feel better if I have some kind of plan going in, even if we don't stick to it. :)

"No, I'm fine where I am" is a totally acceptable answer. It's the one I give when I arrive 30 minutes early for a movie and then am asked to move by someone who arrives when the trailers are starting.

Single rider lines are for ANYONE who doesn't mind riding by themselves. I've seen husbands and wives, families, friends, all use single rider. As long as they are willing to be split up, no biggie.

Personally, I won't take younger children thru single rider. My nieces are 12 and 9, neither will be doing single rider. That is MY choice.
