Has anyone been there? Please share. We're going one month from today. I'm starting to panic!

We were there a few years ago, and had a nice time. It was close to the back entrance to WDW, you enter the property near Animal Kingdom. The pool was nice, large. There was a playground and movie area. We stayed there as an RCI gift exchange form my stepmother, and the only gripe I had was that they charged us $25 mandatory fee to attend a sales pitch.

That, and the contemporary fell of the condo's, where there were mirrors everywhere. Other than that it was good. Since then , we bought DVC at the Boardwalk, so Silver Lake sort of pales when compared, but it was still nice. I would stay there again.

We have been there on an RCI exchange. We really liked it, we had a 2 bedroom slept up to 8 people, was really big. The only thing I didn't like were we were in the older units had no rugs and no elevators.

The resort was great, really enjoyed the pool, activities, etc. They also make a wicked pizza at the tiki bar.

You will have a great time!!!

I stayed there thru SkyAuction last June. If you do a search you will find my posts on it. It wasn't that bad. The main bldgs have elevators. The thing I didn't like was that the day we checked in there was cracker crumbs on the floor in the hall, they were there the next day as well. Our unit had roaches the first night we were there we saw them, I called housekeeping & they sprayed the next day...didn't see any after that. I would stay again because it was a decent size & can't get any better Disney location unless you are onsite or at the new Fairfield timeshare. The back gate to SilverLake was easy to get out of, but hard to get into ... always had to ring the bell for them to open the gate, it never read my card... oh... cars tend to speed on that road & it can be hard to make a left (heading to Disney) from the back gate at times.... be careful because it is just on a curve & sometimes you cannot see the car until they are right next to you...

Thanks for the info so far! Anybody out there ever stayed in the 1800 or 1700 building? :wave2:

Can't believe it...logged on to ask people about Silver Lake and there was your thread!
We've stayed there twice...2002 and '03...wanted to ask if anyone knew of recent changes.
We loved it both times...that's why we're planning another stay there this August.
The location cannot be beat. There was a new entrance/exit that was opening about a month AFTER we left our final time...that exitway puts you literally about two minutes away from Disney property (Animal Kingdom lodge area).
Pool is great....cabana was fun, too....nice tropical drinks both alcoholic and plain for the kids. I believe it was a Sunday morning when they also put out a poolside breakfast buffet, eggs, french toast, the whole works.
They also had a deal where for 20 dollars you could rent as many movies as you wanted for the week.
The rooms were big and clean. Really no complaints at all. But keep in mind, my info is 2-and-a-half years old....wanted to ask info of people who have stayed more recently.
Good luck!

We were there in December and had no problems at all. Loved the location. I think we were in the 1800 building, but I'm not 100% certain.

The rooms were clean and well-maintained...not the most updated decor, but it didn't bother us.

Just found out that our neighbors are heading to Silver Lake on Thursday. Can anyone post exact, foolproof directions for the "back way" to Disney? Thanks!

Hi! We just came back last week. Stayed in the 1700 building and it was just fine.
Back way directions: When you're in the resort, go by the tennis courts and to the guard shack at the back. That puts you on Sherberth Road. From the guard shack, take a left on Sherberth Road. There will be a few bad curves, so be careful. Less than a mile you will come to a red light. Turn right. I think it is the Osceola Parkway. You will see signs for Animal Kingdom almost immediately. Get in the left lane. You are literally 5 minutes from Silver Lake Resort to the Animal Kingdom. We could actually see the tops of Sivler Lake Resort from parts of Animal Kingdom To find the rest of WDW, just stay on Osceola Parkway and look for the signs. It's GREAT.
The pool was HUGE and very nice. Only swam once because we were park commandoes. The room was immaculately clean and comfortable. The decor was all white walls, white tile floors, mauve blindes, tropical print couch, glass table, white wicker entertainment console for the TV. Security was very visible and seemed to be on the ball. Staff was helpful and the time share presentation was not pushy or over 90 minutes. There's construction going on, so part of the resort isn't pretty, but it didn't bother us. We weren't there to look at the resort -- we were there to sleep, dress, and get ready to HIT THE PARKS! If you have any specific questions, I'll keep checking this thread and I'll be glad to help if I can. My family liked staying there.

More on the back way: You can access Sherberth Road from Hwy. 192. It's around Marker 4 or 5, I believe.

We stayed there in December in the 1700 building.

Pros: So close to Disney property...5 minutes to AK and onto the Disney road system, free internet and computer use in the rec centre, free coffee in the lobby building,

Cons: Clean but not squeaky clean - there were areas in the unit that I had questions about, entrance to 1700/1800 building was bleak and stark, security was lax on a few occasions (we drove in and nobody bothered to look at our car), dryer in both of our units barely dried clothes.

The fire alarm went off one night and it took a while before they shut it off. (I'm convinced it's because nobody from security was around to shut it off...just a bunch of firefighters who couldn't leave because nobody was around to shut it off. lol) On the plus side, it's real loud and will get you out of the building!

Would I stay there again? Well...not sure. When we booked it it was a gold crown but now it's nothing but just ordinary. Silver Lakes Points is now gold crown one. The older buildings are nothing special. It's still better than a hotel though.

ps...nobody harassed us for sales or anything. We liked that.
