My DH and I made a promise to each other never to use CC to pay for WDW. We pay cash for every trip. Now coming up I need to buy 6 airline ticket that will run us a bit over 3K. Our debit card has a 2K daily limit. I called my bank and they said it could take up to 48 hours to increase the limit, this could totally ruin finding a great deal. WDW travel offers the same price as the airline website but..Would WDW let me use 2 different debit cards to pay all at once? or Should I purchase the tickets on the airline website 3 at a time? or Should I just go down to the airport and buy them there? (we live 3 miles from the airport...we have to pass it everyday plus it's not crowded so no inconvenience there)We are most likely flyng Delta if that makes any difference.
The travel Board is great for many things but I figured as far as paying and budgeting you guys are much better.

Thank you

Do you have a credit card? You could put the tickets on the CC and then make the payment to the CC company. That's what DH and I do - we have a CC for big purchases but we don't carry a balance on it.

Disney allows you to use 2 forums of payment in one transaction. Did you think of using a prepaid cc from your bank.

My credit union doesnt offer a prepaid CC. Now DH and I both have a debit card with a 2K daily limit. If WDW lets us use both, as you stated, that would be perfect.

We use the CC and then pay it off right away....

If you knew the airline for sure you were going to fly, you could potentially buy a gift card for them.

I'd purchase the tickets in two different transactions (3 tix plus 3 tix). YOu might even get a somewhat better fare for one group of three, as airlines charge you in the lowest price category that all tickets on the itinerary can be charged. For example, say there are only 4 seats left at the lowest price point, and you want to buy 6 tickets. They will charge you the next higher price point that has 6 available tickets, but if you buy them 4 and 2 (or three and three), you'll get a lower price for the first purchase. You can check this by going to the Delta website and pricing out 3 tickets and see if that's half of what 6 tickets would cost.

Consider getting Delta American Express card to be used only for plane tickets. I believe first year is free- after that is $95 fee. You can pay off the card without incurring any interest.

Since you are buying 6 seats- you can get one free checked bag for all members of your travel party. That will say you $20/bag x 2 ways x 6 people= $240. You also will get preferred boarding.

If you pay off the card and don't carry a balance- you will come out ahead.

My bank has a limit on the account, not per card. So if my limit were $2000, I spent $1500 and my DH went to spend $1000, his transaction would be declined because we would be over the $2000 daily account limit.

I don't like charging Disney either, but I did charge my plane tickets a couple of weeks ago. As soon as I saw the transaction on my cc account, I paid it off with the money from the Disney fund. I get a little cash back from my cc, but I wouldn't charge it if I didn't have the money already.

Personally, I'd just buy the air tickets on the credit card. Then immediately put a reminder on your calendar to pay off the credit card the following day.

There's no difference in doing it that way than withdrawing the money from your bank and paying for the tickets with cash. :confused3

We dont like to put charges for WDW on a cc either; but we feel that way about all kinds of charges. If you pay it off when you get the bill than there is no interest so its almost like paying cash. But if its not an inconvenince to go to the airport than I would use both the debit cards.

Mathematically no difference.

Some people draw a mental line in the sand so to speak of no credit card use. It is a personal preference and nothing wrong with doing so. Not against this poster particularly but I think some people act like a preference or desire not to use credit cards is some sort of crime against society.

I think of it as the 3rd law of the DIS Budget Board replies - Whenever any poster asks for tips on how to avoid credit card use, at least three replies of the top 10 will be geared toward telling them to use their credit cards.

The 4th law of course is that when anybody asks for a way to maximize the benefits of credit card use, they'll get 4 Dave Ramsey links.

If getting to the airport is not much of an inconvenience, I'd consider just going there in person and paying for the tickets in cash.

The only other option I can think of would be to purchase gift cards (visa or MC etc) but I'm not sure the denominations would be high enough.

If you book through Disney, they may let you use two separate forms of payment, but I'd suggest calling to confirm that before proceeding.

Thanks for all that replied. It is our personal preference NOT to use a CC for WDW, at all.

:thumbsup2 We have never used a credit card to pay for Disney. I am proud to say we have been credit card free for 10 years. Have you thought of buying tickets one on each card.

I would go to the airport to purchase the tickets in cash. I also agree with checking to see if getting tickets in twos or threes in multiple transactions will save any money.

there is a difference between using a credit card to pay for purchases and using a credit card to finance purchases. No it is not wise to finance vacations (or any other "want") but nothing wrong with using a CC to pay for a vacation (or other wants) when you're going to pay the bill off at the end of the month anyway.

But, that's not the question you asked. So, I'd call Disney and see if they can take two debits, or try to do it online. Baring that, going to the airport is your next best bet. But keep in mind that airfares can change anytime prior to purchase so the fare could change before you get a chance to pay for them.

Anyway, good luck and have a fun trip!

Be aware that you may be paying considerably more if you pay at the airport. I've never done it, but I've heard that they cost more since you're actually taking up someone's time (same with some airlines and calling).

Airtran and jetBlue take PayPal....

Arrgh sorry didnt read that you were flying Delta...sorry.

Valid point, airlines are charging for everything these days. Some charge a $50 "convenience" fee for paying at the airport.

I would probably call the credit card co. and start the process to increase your credit limit asap. If you find a good airfare book it and try to pay. If the transaction doesn't go through, I believe you have 24 hrs to pay. Maybe it won't take 48 hrs.

One advantage to using the cc is it gives you some protection in case of a problem with service, also some offer travel insurance Nothing wrong with using the card as long as you pay it off right away.

Happy travels!
