It does sound like a good idea... but remember a little thing called the Berlin Wall?

Yes, I'm in Canada. I love visiting the U.S. whenever I can... for shopping, camping and just going for dinner. I'd hate to see something like a wall end up between me and my friends. It scares me to think if if can happen to mexico... it could happen to us!

Only if those in favor of it, pay for it! ;)

Seriously, a project like this would cost a fortune. I would rather pay for more law enforcement.

The way to slow immigration is to remove the incentives they have for coming here.

That sentence hits the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. I don't oppose a fence in theory, but it would just be another thing that we can't afford and another thing that is doomed to failure. Illegals will always find a way to get in, if the incentives to come here continue unchanged.

I agree, it would be a serious waste of money to build and maintain and they'll still find a way to cross the border. Not an answer but a good way for some government contractors to make a lot of money. I'm sure the TX representatives will be voting for it since it would bring in $$ to the state. They'll need lots of unskilled labor, wonder where some of them will likely come from ???

Isn't that the point? Border state reps/sens like McCain don't want it because they'll lose the latino vote? That's why George wants the "guest worker program" not that it has won him any votes. Legal Immigration - I'm behind it 110%. Illegal - 0%!

I voted no. Something does need to be done, but I don't feel a fence is the answer. I don't know what is -- but increased border patrols and increased penalties for being found here illegally would be a start.

::yes:: That's what I thought of as well, and I do *not* like the idea of turning our border into something like the Berlin Wall. There are other solutions. We just need to find them, fund them, and enforce them.

I voted yes but only if its electric because I think that just a regular fence won't stop them. The would just tunnel under the fence.

I voted no. It's not going to solve the problem, so why waste the money.

And if you do build the fence, what are you doing with the 10 or 11 million illegal immigrants already here?

If it won't work, then why build it? :p

You're absolutely right. I don't know why I voted yes! Maybe because it seems like a good idea in theory! Can I change my vote?? :teeth:

I'd build one if it were free...or if you could build a big enough one. I don't think a chain link thingy will do much good though.

Why would a fence stop them? They could just simply cut through a fence or even climb over it. I can't imagine any type of fence doing any good except maybe an electric fence and that would really be expensive!

It wouldn't be ANYTHING like the Berlin wall. That was meant to keep people IN.

Are you opposed to Israel building their wall?

With what money? We're... what... $800 billion in the hole now and Iraq is costing $1 billion more EVERY WEEK.

I know we are paying our military, but wouldn't it be nice to find out who is getting rich off this war. Is there somewhere you can find that shows a budget?
