I can’t believe the conversation I just had with guest relations. :badpc: My family and I are “booked” into a “full” hook-up for 20 nights in June. We also have ressies for 16 nights in a “preferred” site (working our way to 20.) We want a “preferred” site, but have not been able to connect all 20 nights… we started with 7, are now up to 16 nights in the preferred, but today, as I attempted to add on, Disney Customer Service tried to, lets use the word, “convince” me, to drop the “Full” site for the 20 nights because they told me that I was taking up too much “inventory” (room nights.) We call every other day and try to add on to the ”Preferred” ressies, and have never before had anyone try to be anything but helpful (well once before they were a little “terse” but I chalked it up to a long day.)
I was told I should just "take the chance, pick a site, and move if I have too cause that what other guests do" but that having both ressies was "wrong" and against "policy." BTW, I have paid deposits on both ressies.

I understand that I am taking up 2 sites, and some of you may flame me, but on my first call, this strategy was recommended to me by a CS rep as the best way to go because there were not yet “preferred” sites available for all the nights we plan on staying. Additionally, moving the RV is not an option, as I am only going to be with my family the first and last week… and heck, I dread the idea of breaking camp and moving once we’re set up.

Here’s the most ridiculous thing… do the math. :teacher: If each campsite (or piece of inventory) is multiplied by the number of nights per year… we’re talking about 284,700 “room nights” per year, yet I was being made to feel like a heal and greedy for holding both sites, 36 “room nights” (less than 1/7500% of annual “room nights.”) It was like we were committing a mortal “Mouse Sin” and needed to be scolded. :furious: Again, we’re holding one ressie temporarily as the “full” site is the only insurance we have that we can do this trip.

But what was even weirder, it wasn’t just a small suggestion, it turned into a 30 minute sermon on how I was “breaking policy” and was really made to feel bad about this heinous breach in policy. And this after previously talking to at least 12-15 other customer reps over the past few weeks, and not being chastised in this way before... :confused3

Oh, candidly, the guy wasn’t mean, or nasty, or even rude, just condescending and preachy… as if he were “standing on policy” to show off to someone.

They were so adamant that it made me really concerned about continuing on the effort to upgrade, but with 4 kids along for the ride, cable would be a big blessing.

It ended without me loosing any of my reservations, but left me so peeved (About an hour on the phone, between “hold and the conversations) :guilty: I could have eaten coal and spit out diamonds!!!

For the sake of this post, assume that because hurricane season begins June 1, and we’re from the New Orleans area, and the nature of my job, once selected, there is NO flexibility in my vacation time because of the nature of my work.

Is this in your opinions a change in policy or just an unlucky call?
Have you had a “hellish call” with the “Happiest Place On Earth?”
Was the irony of being on hold listening to “Zippity Do Da” and “Whistle While You Work” and then being criticized that you want to spend your hard earned money at their business too much to believe for you, too?

I can’t wait to hear your feedback.

I dont think youre wrong. But i will say that its an ongoing problem for WDW that there is never enough campsites avail for those who call.Theres been a recent ( past few years) trend of booking a campsite for dirt cheap (compared to a room) and then staying offsite.... reaping the benefits of being a resort guest at a low cost while still have a nice room.
I dont camp, but your title intriuged me.

I think that the CM was taking out his frustration on you, because he has to deal with people that want a campsite and cant get it.Not that that makes it right. As long as you are paying, i think its your right to hold both... people do it with rooms all the time.

Better put your flame retardent suit on.
Good Luck, i hope you get all the days you need!
Sherrie

I think what prompted your "lecture" was the lenght of your two ressies---if they had been for a week or so they (Disney) probably wouldn't have said anything

just a guess

Um, yeah...I agree with Disney on this one. It's because of people like YOU that ressies can be so hard to get in the first place. Continue your little "math" example a little further, oh, I don't know a thousand people doing what you are doing and, oh, my, suddenly you have tied up what, 1 in every 7.5 days
So the Disney rep wasn't rude, or disrespectful...or wrong.
Pick a date and stick with it, pixie dust.

Wow that was incredibly rude.If the original CM told him to do it this way i really dont think it calls for you acting like he ruins disney for everyone.I mean hes only 4 days away from being complete, which means he will release the other one well before his trip.Someone will get the spot.

Never any reason for anyone to be rude, but since you stated the CM was not really rude about it, just sharing his opinion on the situation.

Is it possible that the very reason you are having so much trouble getting all your preferred site days is that someone else is holding onto 2 reservations they don't really need or intend to keep.

Seems life has a way of doing that. :sunny:

Hey, Reppstir, lighten up!
I never said he was rude... just condescending and preachy.
but you are entitled to suggest that I'm wrong, and I respect that opinion even if I don’t agree, but Reppstir, it is your little "math" example that is flawed.
Sorry for the math guys, (Math is so boring.)
1000 folks doing what I'm doing (highly unlikely since WDW has told me that our length of stay is VERY unusual (though some stay longer, lucky dogs!) would represent 36,000 nights, or aprox 13% of all "total night stays (284,700)," which based on a 365 day year would be 1 in 45 1/2 days (I'm giving you a .05 of a day benefit of the doubt,) not 1 in 7.5. If ya gonna flame me, at least get it right. But your sarcasm is duly noted.
And if you read my email completely, I did "pick a date and stuck with it."
Thank you Paul and rhiannonwales, I think you're right. The length of stay exacerbated the situation with this particular CM, thanks for your feedback.

Right or wrong is not the issue, you paid for the reservations and you have the right to expect to not get a lecture when calling any call center employees, Disney or not. i hope you get your days!

This'll be my 31st trip to WDW and I've never had to mess with this kinda stuff... but I've never gone for 20 days in a row either, so I'm not familiar with what pitfalls come with such long stays... but if you wanted to stay in a preferred site and were presented with the situation I was presented with, right down to a CM recomending what I have done as a solution, what would you do? Honestly, not the polyanna stuff we read on these boards... but what else to do?
Thanks for the feedback.

I see both sides to this thing but preferred sites are not easy to get but you still want to go to disney anyway. So, you book the full for the length of stay and work on getting the preferred like you want. I would do the same thing. You aren't planning to keep that site up until you pull into the campground, right? For the length of time you are staying, I can see why you are having trouble doing it. People change their ressies all the time. I know it is frustrating to others who want a site and I have been one of those persons. I have tried everyday for weeks to get a site and then all of a sudden it pops up. If I can get it then I would cancel the room I have at a hotel. It works out the same to me. They have winter settlers that stay at FW in off season months. They stay for months at a time. Gee look at the "nights" they are holding! But they are paying guests just like you and me. The thing I don't like to see is what some have mentioned before. You try hard to get a site, finally get one, only to see that when you get there, about 3-4 sites in your loop stay empty the whole time you are there. Those are probably people staying offsite just to get free parking and EMH.

So all in all, I say good luck and I hope you get the site you want and if you call and start getting a lecture again, I would say Thank you but I will call back to talk to someone else. Have a magical day!

Pixie Dust to you
Angela

all I can say is....wow, 20 days????? Lucky ducks!!!!

It is policy. I reserved a hotel once because we couldn't get into the campground. We did finally get the dates we wanted and I called to cancel the hotel. The CM told me I was lucky it hadn't been cancelled because it was for the same dates and the same people. She said their system looks for duplicates and cancels them. There are a lot of people that reserve many different rooms, just because they can't decide where they want to stay.

Sure glad we never have to worry about going to FW for stays longer than a few nights.

Sounds like it is a whole lot easier getting a few nights once a month for every month rather than getting a bunch all at once.

Just a few more days till our next short stay :) .

I think they are starting to enforce the only one reservation for you. When I called about the AP rates, and I went on as a new reservation, the CM told me I see you have another reservation for the same dates. I said yes, I will cancel if I find what I want. The CM said you won't need to cancel, the system will automatically cancel them and transfer the deposite when you complete the new reservations.

I have had two reservations at the same time and they never cancelled. Can't people reserve two spots? Maybe it is an AP thing, but some families need more than one room, how would they know? Just curious.

I have also heard that this is policy and that duplicate reservations are sometimes cancelled without Disney asking. So consider yourself lucky that didn't happen to you.

I understand your situation. I don't know what I would do. Don't the full hook up loops have cable now?

The math is correct, but not reasonable. FW has so few sites. You are not a tiny drop in the huge bucket that is WDW, but rather a large, 3 week sized drop in the small (non-themed) bucket that is Fort Wilderness. Maybe it seems like a small # based on percentage of annual room nights, but when you compare the 780 campsites available to the # of value rooms (something over 8000), it makes you realize exactly how many people visit the world and that FW does not have enough sites to accommodate the demand.

On Sunday I spoke with someone at WDW about my email complaining that the special promos do not oftern apply to FW. I was upset that I couldn't use the ticket upgrade, even though my preferred site doesn't cost much less than a value resort, and we get fewer services.

They said FW is usually not included because it's fully booked. They don't need to offer promos to get people to stay there. No math here, but think about it in terms of your situation and other people who double book for a week at a time. :(

I'm sure the system can find them. And when most people book two or more rooms for their family, the reservations are linked together. The names on them will probably be slightly different as well.

I have had two rooms many a time and at different resorts. When you book you tell them who is in the what room. If different names then it is ok. This last time was the first time it automatically cancelled. I always have either AAA or AP rates.

I am staying well over 20 nights. I am booked from June 1 to Aug 5 at a full hook up site. It is spread out over 3 reservations. I don't think it is the days that are a problem. I have never had a cm tell me anything about my length of stay. :confused3 Maybe because it has to do with a preferred site? Good luck on the days you need.
