Shocked at the Conversation I just had with customer Service!!!

glad you got your days, gladder still that someone else has the opportunity to use the cancelled site.

Lets all get together and let Disney know we want MORE sites, especially the discounted ones!!!!!

Disney or Bust, 3/19-3/25!!!!!!!!!

Last week my family and I spent our March Break at WDW. The last two Christmases ( 2004, 2005) we have spent three weeks at Fort Wilderness in our travel trailer. We have also had to be persistant about calling and have always , in the end, been able to stay at a preferred site for the entire trip without moving. I have never booked two ressies at the same time , but have always had at least two separate bookings. We always book at least nine months in advance. It is frustrating , to say the least, I think Disney needs to address these problems A.S.A.P. before real campers ( actual guests who will actually camp there) become discouraged . We tow from Atlantic Canada so we need the long stay to recover!
Last week we stayed in a cabin as we were only there for 6 days. One of the WDW bus drivers told my husband that the campground will be expanded in the next five years . Let's hope she's right. Perhaps we dissers could come up with a better system for ressies so that the new sites will be able to accomodate real campers. How about something similar to the DVC where a points system would be used for a time share type arrangement. Disney has used the DVC to raise capital to build more accomadations at their hotels, why not a similar system at the campground? If this were done correctly , only people who really wanted to camp would be able to use these sites.
The fact remains that with full occupancy Disney needs more camp sites. End of rant!

I think they are starting to enforce the only one reservation for you. When I called about the AP rates, and I went on as a new reservation, the CM told me I see you have another reservation for the same dates. I said yes, I will cancel if I find what I want. The CM said you won't need to cancel, the system will automatically cancel them and transfer the deposite when you complete the new reservations.
Are you sure they do this? We have paid reservations for several hotel rooms for our vow renewal in December 2006. We only have our names attached at the present, because we are not sure (yet) which family members will be coming to join us for the renewal. If they cancel these rooms, I can guarantee I will NOT be in my typical Disney Polyanna form when calling them to discuss the situation!!! I have confirmed reservations, and a printout and VISA statement to prove it. They have accepted my money and issued a promise to fulfill. I don't see how they can just cancel it arbitrarily like that.

On the issue of sites being reserved and then not used, the Federal campgrounds have a good policy there. We camp often at Fort Pickens, and if a space is vacant for 24 hours, it is considered abandoned and rerented. Disney should institute the same policy, IMO. ~Ev

It wouldn't surprise me that they are starting to hunt down duplicates and cancel them. I don't think a reservation done under a group category (reunion, wedding etc) would be subject to this activity.

Perhaps Disney should consider changing the treehouse resort over to a non-tent campground. The guests could use the Saratoga Springs facilities yet be reasonably safe from golf balls. Not sure if the problems that prevent them from building there would also keep them from using it as a campground.

With regard to the OP...if Disney permitted the double booking then its okay...sucks for someone looking for that full hookup but its not your problem. If Disney were serious about the doublebooking problem they'd make the people who do it take a financial hit. Require a bigger deposit and make them non-refundable or only as a credit on a future stay.

Or..they could do just what they did...find them the dates they needed. Obviously..they were available, that's why they were calling every day, getting them bit by bit. I've done it myself with the resorts. When they realized there were two reservations, they wanted to get rid of one of them..but they didn't back down. Low and behold...the next day they get a call that the dates they needed in preferred loop requested are available.
I think that the reservation agents don't look for each individual day..unless you ask them too..at least this has been my experience, if you give them a week..they just look for accomodations for that entire week..I've had to ask them specifically to look at each individual day..and that's how you get the days here and there until you have what you need. It seems that there was availability when someone was probably irritated enough to look and make it work somehow. I agree that there probably have to be some changes made to the system, to accomodate folks who are actually there, and those who just book a site and not occupy it.

I guess I'm confused. Why can't you reserve more than one site/room? What do you do when your family can't fit in one room? Or you are paying for someone else's room? (ie: parents paying for grown children, etc.)

You certainly can do that..and we have had more than one room reservation. We have indicated that the reservations are linked. They also ask now who are the oocupants of the room are going to be.
In regards to a campsite..the problem was that they had one site..in a full hook-up category..but actually wanted a site in a "preferred hook-up". They reserved the "full"..because it was available for all of the days they needed. While the "preferred hook-up"..which they actually wanted was only available for a few of the desired days. They do what many of us have done..keep calling each day ...hoping to secure a cancelled reservation in the preferred hook up loop....adding it on day by day until they have the necessary amount. At that point I believe it was the intention to cancel the Full Hook-up site, as they would have secured all the nights they needed in the Preferred section. Apparently, the reservationist saw that there were two reservations for the same time period..with the same people occupying them and realized you can't be two places at the same time. The original poster was not ready to give up either of the reservations until they were able to secure the days they needed in the Preferred section..or they would have stayed in just the Full hook up for the entire length of stay, as there was a problem with being able to move from one area to another if they should have had to. I think I may have confused you :confused3 more than clarified this..but if you re read the thread you will see my point...I hope! ;)

I appreciate the fact that you "got" the nuances of our efforts.
Thanks for helping to explain...
Can't wait to "chill with the Mouse!"

My experience with making reservations for FW has been different than the rest of you all.

We often go over for a Friday and Saturday night. A couple of times I have been able to adjust our work schedule so we could add on a Thursday night after the original reservation was made. Usually Friday and Saturday fill up quicker than other days, so adding on a Thursday is not a problem. However when I call to modify my reservation, I have been told twice that they can't add on a day to my existing reservation. To change my reservation to 3 days would mean canceling my old and making a new. This means I could lose my Friday and Saturday nights in the process.

So I have been told to just make a new reservation for Thursday, and they note I will be staying on same site for other 2 days. Same result, just seems strange they don't modify the original reservation. :confused3
