~~~SEWING my way to POFQ ~ American Girl outfits & Custom Park Bags! ~~~
I hate that I cant quote on this dang thing!
Nini - yes, the ATL airport is NOT for short layovers... Which is why I had given us 3 hours in between flights... Too bad that got eaten up on the PVD runway:headache:
Andrea & Michelle - I hate complaining about my DH not being around... Especially when I have family who serve in the military and cannot have their families with them when they're on active duty... I'm lucky that DH doesn't travel more than a couple of times a year for work and then it's just a night usually... But it's really hard for people to understand that his job means long hours at inconvenient times and working just about every weekend and really he doesn't ever have an entire weekend off unless it's his one week of vacation a year...
Sorry D~ I seem to be having a pity party in your PTR I'm sorry :sad2:
Weddings are not good for my self esteem... And this one just meant that the next one I'm due to attend is all the closer... And it's for my best guy friend from high school... Who I never dated but everyone always assumed we'd get married... That I will also be attending solo (completely solo as it's an adult only affair) ... SIGH...
Well, no sewing yet today... I had to go pick oldest dd up from school. She was receiving some pretty awful texts last night from "friends" at school - yelling some really awful profanities at her. So, of course, I sent an email to the school Principal and Counselor, and told dd to go to the office immediately (on the bus, she found out that these girls managed to tell the whole volleyball team, so they want to beat her up). Well, she gets to the office and neither of these people are in today. Grrr... so she asked me to come to school and help her find someone to talk to.
Of course, the mama bear in me came out, and I was not a happy individual. By the time I got there, her Counselor was in, so he offered to mediate while I ran errands, then dd could come home with me. So, the counselor went to find those girls, and they are on a field trip today. So, I took dd home with me, and he is going to mediate tomorrow.
I am very happy that the girls' school has a pretty staright foraward stance on bullying, because they don't tolerate it at all. I just get so frustrated, because both of my girls are very strong individuals, who are much more mature than their age, and so see these other kids try to rip at them for handling things in a respectful manner - makes me so mad. I always tell the girls that I hate middle school, and I will be so happy when they go on to HS, because everything is much less petty.
OK, rant over. Back to your regularily scheduled programming.
D~ <---- Forgot to tell you all that I lost 2 lbs this week, for a grand total of -7.4 :)
Middle school can be such an aweful place sometimes! I am glad that you were able to help your daughter talk to an adult about what happened. Hopefully tomorrow will go smoothly when the counselor talks to the other girls.
Love the new fairy! I can't wait to see today's results.
Honestly, I wasn't planning on doing this fairy... but a certain "someone" (I am not naming names :rolleyes1 ) mentioned that this fairy is her dd's favorite - has anyone ever known me to diasppoint?
May I present Fawn:
D~
See, this is what I get when I can't quote... How is DD??? Bullying, well, it just sucks. I was the victim of horrible bullying in middle school and I still have some emotional scars...
:hug: I hope the school and MamaBear can help put an end to this...
D~ I hate bullies. So glad your daughters school takes it so seriously. Bullying scares me.
I am going to come up with a neame tonite and work on doing a pre-trip started for my December trip.
Oooh - I've been trying to come up with a name for you, but I haven't had any luck yet. Did you post it??
I hate that I cant quote on this dang thing!
I know your dh works some pretty rough hours, and it's never easy being the one sitting at home waiting. :hug: I can honestly tell you that I hate dh's new hours since he retired... 5am until 1:30pm, which doesn't sound bad, but he has to be in bed no later than 7, and up at 3 - so when he gets home - he lays on the couch and takes a 4 hour nap, I never see him and it drives me crazy. However, for the next month or two, he is working 7am until 4, and wow, that is nice to have him on some normal hours. I told him, if he ever gets the opportunity to swtich - he better do it.
Sorry D~ I seem to be having a pity party in your PTR I'm sorry :sad2:
You can have a pity party in my PTR anytime. :lovestruc
Awww Marianne.... :grouphug: You can bring your Ipad - and I'll virtually go with you. I'll even dress up in my semi-formal attire - I hope no one will mind if I don't wear my boots though... :rotfl2:
I hope so too - I am very nervous for her. I hate that I raise my girls the very best I could, and then all these other kids come in and try to wreck it all with the bullying. I know, it's a test of character, but I told dh that I really want to put them in a bubble. :rolleyes1
D~
DD is fine, thanks for asking. She had some issues last night with the neighbor kids - ones that aren't really part of our community - just visiting... they took her phone, Ipod and shoes and threw them on a roof. So, when she was chasing after these kids, trying to get her stuff back, she tripped in a doorway, hit the door, and the doorknob put a hole in the person's wall. :eek: Needless to say - DH did lose his temper on that one - marched 2 blocks and sent the boys on the roof of the house to get her stuff - had a gruff little chat with them.
Now, hopefully today will go well. I will be at school for a couple of hours this morning, because little dd begged me to help out in their home-ec sewing unit. So, I will be there if she needs me - but I doubt she will. I am confident that the school will handle it.
I Heart this one. and I wouldn't know who mentioned it being her DDs favorite.:rotfl2:
I am not sure either. LOL :rolleyes1
I forgot to come back and check in last night... we were all exhausted, so we went to be early. I plan to get to work on my next outfit when I get home today - however - I think I am going to walk while I am in town.
D~
Haven't been on here in awhile!!
I LOVE the fairy dreses! :goodvibes
Hmmm maybe once I'm finished all my orders...I will make DD's doll a new dress :thumbsup2
I did start the PTR last night the name is in my signature. I will be posting more today.
Figure it will give me a fun little outlet.
Hi!!! :banana: Glad you found me again... :thumbsup2 That would be cool if you could make your dd a doll dress - I am always happy to enable. :cloud9:
It is a fun outlet! :lovestruc I really am having so much fun with this - and in my case - I really needed something to keep my motivation going, so setting the time limit and a goal has been very helpful.
I already posted in your PTR... I can't wait to read more. (Now, everyone, go check out Chiara's PTR - it's in her siggy) :thumbsup2
Love, love the faries! What is next. I am running out of room on the edge of my seat...
Going down to WDW this Sat, need any pics of anything? I always take some at AK of the building and want to do some appliques for ? quilt, tote bag? Just can't remember what I took the shot for when I get home...:confused3
Do have to take a few close up of the Tangled dress, DN likes things EXACTLY like the dress in the films, guess I have created a monster...
Am taking the 'puter, will try and check in to see what all you get done. So, no presure...But I think a lot of us are living our sewing lives throug you at this time.
Off to trim patterns, makes Grooms/groomans vests/MOB jacket and stuff, sigh.
Athene... you are so funny! Thanks so much!
I am just so jealous that you are going to be at WDW... :lovestruc I can't think of anything I need pictures of, off the top of my head. I'll let you know if I think of anything.
LOL about DN... I am guessing you probably created a monster - but what a fun one to have. She challenges you, I am sure. :thumbsup2
We need to do a tutorial for you on how to post pictures - I would love to see what you make! :banana:
I survived dd's home-ec class this morning. ROFL... I consider myself to be a "self-taught" seamstress, even though I took a few sewing classes in elementary school and again in HS - I really don't remember much of it - except that I did it. So, while DD's home-ec teacher was going through the basics today, I felt pretty good because I didn't learn anything. LOL I must have taught myself well. :lovestruc And, I am sorry dd's home-ec teacher, her "sewing on paper" was a 10 out of 10, not a 9 out of 10, thank you very much. :rolleyes1 There weren't any straighter lines in that class. :cloud9: Sorry, I just had to get that in there - you can definately tell that dd has a lot of sewing practice under her belt. I will have to post some of her items later today. :lovestruc
This may very well be my fav even though Fawn is not my fav fairy -- I think Silvermist would be my fav, but I think these colors really capture Fawn.
Had to go to the dentist this morning but must go sew now -- one more applique and then I can finish dd's shirt. Her jeans are possible done, possibly not as if I have a little more time I want to add to them. I was really worried about them at first but now I love them. DD hasn't seen them yet.
DS's shirt just needs buttons sewn on and I may embroider him a long sleeve t to wear under the bowling shirt. OK, I'm wasting time typing -- must go sew.
Thanks Andrea - I hope you were able to get everything finished. :thumbsup2
I started on a strange project (well, strange for me). Something I've never done before, but it was lots of fun to make... And it gave me an idea for something else too. :wizard: I should be able to post pictures tomorrow.
D~
I have to admit I skipped all the links at the very top and just checked out your sewing projects...that is until now. The first ones I decided to click on where about your husband...I burst into tears at the part where you met him at the airport. I'm an emotional person, what can I say. So now I'm going to go read the other posts and I'm hoping for no more crying. haha! Now off for some more reading....:surfweb:
Can't wait to see what it is!!!
How did the bullying thing turn out at school? Did you already post it and I missed it?
Sorry, I hope you enjoyed the rest of my PTR more. :lovestruc
Alli had her meeting with the girls and counselor yesterday. She didn't say much about it, I tried to pry it out of her, and she was starting to get mad at me, so I left it alone. I guess I can't know everything. :confused3 She did, at least, tell me that the girls were being "decent" to her. So, hopefully, this is the end of the drama for a week or two - I really hate the drama of middle school.
I have a busy day on my plate today. I want to finish up the outfit I started yesterday, and get it posted here... I really hope you all like it, because it's something I've never done before - and I could see myself doing more, at some point. This was just an experiment. :wizard:
Then I have a bunch of pics to take of the Fairy outfits.
I have to work out this morning, and then I will be going to town this afternoon. First, I am going to walk.... Then I am going to grocery shop and get pizza for "Friday night = pizza night", then I have to pick up the girls from school, because little DD did an amazing job with her fundraiser (she earned a limo ride and pizza party) - so we need to pick up her fundraiser orders. It is going to be a crazy day, I would love to spend more time in the sewing room, but I just don't think that will be happening today.
Not tomorrow either, since we have season passes to our local amusement park - they do a halloween "thing" in the fall - which is NOTHING like MNSSHP - more like Freddy and Jason return, very gory and yuck... but the girls want to check it out, and since it's free... I guess we are going. :sick:
Yep, DN is a cutie, but she is a costume Nazi...and if is my own fault.
I have 2 great cameras, and a droid phone...with 5 photo apps. Can I take photos? yea, can I post them...well, nope. And then there is the whole fact that a lot of the latest costumes are of DN, and she would require a whole fashion shoot. Soon, wedding first...NO! WDW first!!!
Ok, the whole Home Ec thing? When I was in HS, we moved freshman year from S.Cal. to Tennessee. I had auto shop in Calif., Tenn wanted to force me to take Home Ec so I could "learn womenly arts"(1970...:thumbsup2). My mom said, "No, she can sew and cook and does so already." Principle said, "She can't know how to sew as well as the teacher, she is 13 yo." Next day I wore a Vouge pattern suit into school I had made, the teacher had never sewn a Vouge,"because they are to hard..." Didn't end up in either auto shop, or home ec. I did tell the Home Ec teacher Vogue isn't hard, you just need to read the pattern, and then re-read it. And if it has a single pattern piece that is 4"x 2" and tells you to buy 6 yards of fabric, then BUY 6 YARDS of fabric, cause they have a reason for it...
Mostly I am also a self sewer. I have some tailoring experience, Bridal gowns, and so on.Mom always said I wouldn't sew over my finger more then a few times, same for cutting my self with siccors,she was correct! Alterations are on an as desperate need of cash basis..I call it Prostution Sewing...think about it- if you take money for doing something you like to do....:rolleyes1
Can't wait to see the new stuff, hope it is up before we head out tomorrow at the crack of dawn. Might have to get up early and check this to see what is new from you!
This is the "something new" I've been working on... I always theme my outfits on characters, I've never themed one on an event before.
Really, I wanted to squeeze "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party" on it... but it was just too small... I couldn't even get MNSSHP... so, it's just a mickey bat. :rotfl2:
But I made a matching trick-or-treat bag - so that was fun. :wizard:
aIMG_2035.jpg
Special thanks to Cajunfan for sending me some of her halloween fabric scraps - it was so much fun to try and create something with remnants. Not to worry - other people have sent me some fun things too - which a plan to use soon. :thumbsup2
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!!
Each one gets cuter and cuter!
Quick question I have been meaning to ask...where did you get your small dress form? I found a pattern from YCMT to make a small dress form as a pincushion and was thinking about making one the size of an American Girl doll...
That turned out great! What a cute idea! Are you going to do some other holiday themed outfits too?:lovestruc
Glad that things seem to have turned out ok with the bullying incident at school. Middle schoolers are such a difficult age. They are like little kids in some ways and then too grown up for themselves in other ways. It doesn't always come out as a nice mix.:confused3:confused3:confused3 I guess that they mostly grow up to be pretty good people though.:rotfl:
